3. Chapter III

I glided down the long white hallway filled with family pictures until I reached a doorway on my right side. I walked through and was greeted with the all too familiar living room.

The living room was my favourite room in Luke's house. Maybe it was because of the long white couch centred in the middle of the room, or the red floor to ceiling curtains, the white walls, the red rug or maybe even the huge flat screen TV sitting there peacefully on the wall.

I sat on the back of the lounge, gazing at all the boys walking in with handfuls of snacks and drinks. I watched carefully as Michael out stretched his free hand and lifted my legs up and back, causing me to gasp as I landed on my back on the couch cushions. The room erupted in a fit of laughter, and soon I was joining in, watching my feet dangle in the air.

I fisted the nearest cushion into my hand and threw it in Michael’s direction, smacking him across the side of his head. Everyone laughed at Michael this time, watching as his once full arm was suddenly free, as the bags of chips fell to the ground.

I giggled once more before rolling off the couch and onto the floor, as I knew the boys would kick me off there anyway. It’s fine I find the floor more comfortable anyway.

Once the snacks were situated on the coffee table to the right, the boys all jumped on the couch, well, practically on each other with it being only a 3 seater, not fit for 4 boys. Calum decided to come and join me on the floor, and handed me a pillow and a blanket.

“Nice clothes by the way.” Luke mentioned, ruffling up my hair as he leant forward.

“Thanks. The underwear’s comfortable too.” I smiled at him, which is response he just smiled and shook his head, leaning back into the couch once more.

“Underwear, really?” I hear Ashton ask quietly, but still I heard the remark so I swivelled around to see him. He was sitting on the far end.

“Well my other ones were wet, remember?” I hinted, reliving the walk Ashton and I had just done only an hour ago in my mind.

He just smiled shyly and I sat back forward, focusing on the first movie Michael had obviously chosen. White Chicks. I smiled to myself, unsure whether it was the love I had for this movie, or the love I had for Ashton.

“What a beautiful chocolate man!” I whined a moment later, and all the boys shh’d me in unison. They hate when I do that.

About half an hour in the timber floor became unbearable to sit on, but it didn’t seem to bother Calum. “Hey Cal?” I whispered, causing him to hum in response. “Can I lay on you?” I asked, and immediately he nodded in response, readjusting his legs so I was able to sit in between them. I rested my head on his tone chest before continuing back on the movie.

By about the third movie, my eyelids suddenly became very heavy, and I found myself drifting off to sleep on Calum. I rolled my head to the left and caught a glimpse at Ashton sitting above me, and he was staring blankly at me.

I just smiled before closing my eyes and whispering, “Welcome to the island of misfit toys.”

I fluttered my eyes open, a small yawn escaping my lips as I took in my surroundings. Well I wasn’t in the living room anymore. Are we moving?

I unwrapped my arms from someone’s body and instantly rubbed my eyes, taking in my surroundings.

“You’re awake sleepy head.” I hear a soft voice in my ear. I instantly smiled and locked eyes with Ashton, who was mimicking my actions.

“Where are we going?” I mumbled, nuzzling my head into his chest once more, still feeling tired.

“The venue.” Was all that escaped Ashton’s lips, before he planted a soft kiss on my head. I rolled around to be faced with Calum’s eyes watching the both of us, so I pushed his shoulder and kissed his cheek.

I leant forward so I could see into the front of the car and said “Hey” to the two boys occupying the driver and passenger seats.

Michael turned around and smiled before saying hey, followed by Luke commenting “Hey Em sorry we didn’t want to wake you so Ashton carried you in, the concerts in 3 hours so we’re just heading to the venue now.”

I glanced at my reflection in the rear view mirror and instantly was in shock. I was bare faced and my hair still damp in a bun. I sighed before leaning back into Ashton. Closing my eyes, I heard a soft voice speak in my ear, “You still look beautiful.” But I was too tired to even form a sentence, I just shook my head against his chest.

He wrapped his arm around me and I fell asleep, his last words playing over and over in my mind like a broken record.

How could I sleep now? My mind was racing.
