Near to You

"I loved him. There's no other way to put it. He was my one and only, but he wasn't what I expected." Sara was in love. Wholeheartedly, and completely in love. But he didn't love her back, and they both suffered for it. Now, Sara has to recover from a heart torn and bruised and ripped in two by a man she trusted. But will she have to do it alone, or will she learn to trust another?

2. Police

I sat numbly inside the back of the ambulance, silently listening to the policemen.

'Worst case of domestic abuse I've ever seen, that's for sure.'

'I know. No need to get her hooked on drugs either. I hate people like this one.'

I heard him shouting and swearing at me, and silently began crying again, covering my ears and rocking back and forth, muttering "No" over and over to myself.

'What have I done?' I whispered, forcing myself to look into his hate filled eyes.

He'll never love me now.

An officer walked over to me, blocking my view of him, and smiled gently at me.

'My name's Harvey. It's over now Sara. You're safe.' He said gently. I flinched as he rested his hand on my shoulder, and ignored the sympathy and pain he had in his eyes.

I nodded, and my tears were finally released.

I was broken. Dysfunctional. Not human.

He was right.

No one would ever love someone like me.
