Blue Eyes

Interviewer Rebecca Gold talks to Cody Matthews about his love Marie Higgins.

1. Be Different

"Hello everyone, I'm Rebecca Gold, here with singing sensation Cody Matthews," she smiled at the camera. "So, Cody, today we're here to talk about Marie?"

"Yes, it appears so," I smiled as I took a deep breath.

"First thing's first - how'd you meet?" she asked.

"Let's hit the water!" Scott had yelled as we ran down the sand to the ocean. Taylor and I splashed each other and laughed the whole time. That is, until Luke pulled me away.

"Cody! There's a girl here that only Hannah knows. A new girl," he said. I guess he saw the confused look I had because he continued. "You said you wanted someone new, someone different."

"Oh, right. Well maybe I'll talk to her," I nodded, walking back to Taylor. She gave me an innocent smile as she quickly dunked me. When I came back up, she was cracking up. That quickly ended when I returned the favor.

"Alright guys, back to the fire!" Scott yelled out and we ran back. We sat in a circle around the fire. I sati n between Taylor and Luke. Luke was scanning the area, looking for someone.

"Who are you looking for?" Taylor asked. He didn't respond for a while, still scanning. "Luke?" she asked.

"Oh, sorry. I'm looking for Hannah. She's with the new girl," he said and I joined his search. If she was new and different, I wanted to meet her.

"Screw this," he muttered, standing up. "Hannah?" he yelled out.

"What Luke?" she yelled back, holding her hand up. We looked in her direction and walked over. The new girl smiled at us and I immediately smiled back. I don't know why, but I felt so comfortable with her already. I sat in front of her and shook her hand.

"I'm Cody," I said, that stupid smile never leaving our faces.

"I'm Marie," she said. "And you have really nice hair, Cody." I laughed and made myself more comfortable in the sand. Luke sat back with Taylor and I spent the rest of the bonfire talking to Marie. When we had to go, I walked her, and I guess Hannah, to the car.

"Here, sit," she said, sweeping sand away with her hand from the concrete. I slowly and confusingly sat as she kneeled in front of me. She pulled out a pen and grabbed my leg. She scribbled something down and then helped me back up. I looked down and saw that she gave me her number.

"On my leg? Why not my hand?" I laughed.

"Be different," she smiled and got in the car. I watched Hannah drive away until I couldn't see them anymore. I got in my car and drove home, smiling the whole time.

"Be different," I replayed in my head. "Be different."
