7. East River

After that night, we left early in the morning. Liam told me they were trying to find a place that's safe for kids like us. It's called East River and apparently, they are very close to finding it. Their last clue was major. It was a secret code that turned out to be a radio station and it told us exactly where East River is. Everyone is excited, even Chubs who is usually grumpy.

"Are we close," Jess asked.

"Yes, we should be there in a few minutes," Liam replied eagerly.

"More like a few seconds! It's right there," Chubs shouted.

We quickly got out of the car and walked toward East River. As we got closer, I realized it was a large camp site, and there were so many kids there. All of them seemed so happy and were playing around with no worries.

"Wow," I heard Jess, Liam, and Chubs say at the same time.

"Hello," a man said to us. Somehow he looked familiar. "My name is Clancy."

That's why it seemed like I saw him before. His picture is all around Thurmond.

"Hey, I'm Liam. And this is Chubs, Zu, Jess, and Sabrina," Liam said.

"Welcome to East River. My friend Olivia will show you to your cabin," Clancy said.

A girl then approached us. Did he say Olivia? She looks very similar to me but there is no way she is my sister, is she?

"Is that your sister," Liam asked me.

"I think so," I replied. "She looks a lot like her, but there's only one way to be sure."

"What's that?"

"On her face, there has to be a birth mark on her chin."

"Well when she turns around, check her chin to make sure."

Olivia suddenly stopped and turned toward a cabin. She then opened the door and coaxed us inside. There was a birth mark on her chin.

"This is your cabin and dinner will be in an hour. If you need anything, just ask," Olivia said as she walked out.

After she left, Liam pulled me aside so no one could hear us.

"So, was that your sister?"

"Yes, but does it matter? She doesn't even know who I am! By what she knows, she just met me!"

Before he could say anything else, I ran out of the cabin into the woods. I need time to myself. Once I was sure no one was following me, I sat down. I covered my mouth to stifle a sob. How am I supposed to have Olivia remember me? I stayed there until everyone was asleep before going back to the cabin.
