At Sunset

Ivy is living her normal life when a mysterious man comes into her restaurant and everything bad happens. She gets kidnapped leaving her with no way of escaping. Then another man comes and says he is trying to help her. Who is she to believe, who should she trust? Will she ever get her life back or is she left with a life of misery?

2. Chaptrer 2

Ok. I have made it this far. One hour Left.

"Hey, John" I said while entering the kitchen.

"What's up Ivy?" He replied.

"Did everyone else leave?"

"Um, I think so. Boss said he's closing early today."

"Yes! It felt like this shift would never end."

"You got about twenty minutes left but you still have one customer left till we both get to leave. Now hurry and get going." He said shooing me off.

"Alright. Alright. I'm going." I say while waving my hand over my shoulder as I enter the dining area.

I walked past the bar to were the customer was waiting to be seated.

"Welcome. will anyone be joining you?" The tall man shook his head no in reply.

I grabbed a menu from the table and headed to his seat. "Follow me please. Your table is right this way."

I started for the closest booth to the kitchen since it would make it easier for me to serve the man his meal and get him out of the restaurant as fast as possible. I waited for the man to take his seat before I handed him the menu.

"What would you like to drink?" I asked.

"Water will be fine." The man answered without looking at me.

I turned and went to the kitchen and grabbed a glass as well as a pitcher filled with ice water for the man. I turned and headed back to the booth were the man sits. Now that I think of it he looked slightly familiar. He reminds me of the man I saw on the elevator on the way here in the morning. When I give the man his water I'll get a look at him to see if it really was the same man.

I got back to his booth and he was looking at the menu which was covering his face. I grabbed his glass and poured him some water. I glanced at him and noticed his clothing was similar to the man Ii saw in the elevator. Maybe it really is the same person. That's a little odd because what is a man wearing a fancy black suit and a golden watch doing in my old, run down apartment building. Hell, what is he doing in this dumpy restaurant especially this late at night by himself? He had to be rich or a business man. Both of which are never regular customers at this restaurant. This place is mainly filled with chubby truckers, elderly, or poor hipsters. This man definitely doesn't belong here. I cant help but be a little curious as to what this mans motives are, or at least what he looks like. I have a sneaking suspicion that he is deliberately covering his face from me. Well, the more time I spend thinking about it the more time I have to stay at this dump of a place called a restaurant.

I place the picture of ice water on the table and ask, "Are you ready to order?"

He set the menu on the table finally allowing me to get a clear look at his face. He had black well kept hair with a five o'clock shadow. His eyes were so dark I felt like I could lose myself in them. He was pale, almost to the point of looking unhealthy but he was well built. His suits fabric strained slightly when he moves his arms, and, as I had seen previously while greeting him at the enterence, he was very tall. Granted, I am not very tall myself but I barley made it up to his shoulder. I was so deep in my ogling that i almost missed the mans order

"Ah, yes. I would like the grilled steak. I prefer it to be less done." He stared right at me when he answered as if he was trying to provoke me in some way.

He had such a deep voice that I felt a shiver going down my spine. I could feel a slight blush creeping over my cheeks. I could only pray he doesn't notice.

"Would that be it for you this evening?" I ask him with my voice coming out ever so slightly quieter. His stare making me feel somewhat intimidated.

I gave my best smile and smile and turned as quickly and calmly as possible to the kitchen to give John the order. I leaned on the counter nearby John while he started working on the mans order. While I waited I couldn't help my thoughts from wondering back to the man. He was so out of this world, literally. He didn't belong here. He should be eating at his mansion somewhere with is butler serving him his dinner and not me. That might be a little exaggerated but he is definitely mysterious and very handsome. Total boyfriend material, at least so some model or something. No way a guy like him would ever look at a girl like me. I work at the Meet and Eat for Christ sake. If that isn't bad enough then I don't know what is.

I was brought out of thought by John waving his hand in my face. I blinked rapidly to try and bring myself back to reality.

"Sorry. Did you say something?"

"Has somebody found a new crush?" John joked teasingly while poking my shoulder.

I brushed his hand away and he went back to the grill while chucking to himself.

"Maybe. Its hard not to admire a man like him. You should take notes, maybe you will finally get yourself a girlfriend." I answer him while sticking my tongue out.

"Ouch. No need to be rude."

"I'm not being rude, I'm just stating a fact." I flash John my biggest smile. He only looks at me and shakes his head while smiling. If there's one thing that gets me through this hell hole of a job, its John. He's always felt like a big brother to me. He's only 6 years older then me but we get along really well. He always comes to my rescue and tells off biker gangs that hit on me and make me feel uncomfortable when I get stuck serving them.

"What do you think of that guy?"

"That really tall guy you are serving?" I nod my head  in reply.

"Well, as I see it. I think he is some kind of creep."

"What! Why do you say that?!" I raised my voice defensively.

"Woah. Easy." John holds his hands up submissively. "I just think its weird that a guy dressed up all rich and pretty would come eat dinner at the Meet and Eat at 10:50 at night just because. Even you gotta admit that is a little odd."

I sigh in agreement to Johns statement. " Yea. I thought it was kinda weird too. I can't help but be curious though."

"Curiosity killed the cat." I only rolled my eyes at Johns terrible brotherly advice.

I decide to leave the kitchen to check on the man and avoid the possibility of having to listen to anymore awful advice from John.

I placed my hand on the door to the dinning area but before I could fully leave the kitchen John yelled just loud enough for me to hear, "Don't stare at him to long, you might make him feel uncomfortable then he will never come back."

I quickly reached into my pouch and grabbed a few straws and threw them at John hitting him directly in the back of his head. I could heat his laughter as I left the kitchen.

As I waited for the the mans meals to finish cooking I watched the man from a behind the bar so I would make myself look busy. Occasionally he would look over at me and I would quickly have to look the other way to keep myself from blushing or completely embarrassing myself in fount of him. After we had made eye contact I felt my whole body heat up with embarrassment. He had caught me looking at him. Unbelievable! He probably thinks I'm a creep now. Great. That's just great. No more looking over at him. I heard the bell chime from the kitchen letting me know that John is finished with the order. I cringe inwardly at the thought of having to serve the man his food now after being caught staring at him.

I leave the bar and enter the kitchen and head strait to the mans steak.

John walks over beside me and says, "Hey, I'm packing up and heading home so when the customer leaves you need to lock up this dump. If you forget I'll be in big trouble. Got it?"

"Yep, got it. I'll see you later."

He grabs my shoulder and puts on a serious face. "If anything happens or that mans starts acting weird you know my number. Give me a call, I'll be here in a flash."

"Yea, yea. I know. I'll call if something happens." I tell him nonchalantly.

John smiles and puts up his best mom impression. "Alright sweetheart. Just remember, no drugs, alcohol, or sex. Be safe. Hugs and kisses." John puckers his lips spreads his arms out wide as if he is trying to hug me and give me a kiss on my head. I roll my eyes as I place my hand on his face and push him away while laughing. He takes a step back to regain his balance after I pushed him and he chuckles as well.

"See ya Ivy. Just be careful around him. He gives me the creeps." He warns as he tosses me the keys and heads towards the back exit.

"I know. I'll be careful. Drive safe John." I wave at him after catching the keys. I turn back to the steak to focus on my last customer.

I grabbed the plate and exited the kitchen. When the man saw me heading to his booth he gave me a small smile and straitened himself in his seat. Once I reached the table I placed the plate in front of him.

I noticed his slight hesitation to start eating. "Is there anything you would like?"

"No thank you. I have everything here I need."

I nodded and turned to leave but he quickly asked, "Would you like to sit with me? I am your last customer and I would gladly enjoy your company while I eat."

His question felt truly genuine. As if he would really enjoy my company. I felt a smile start to form on my face but I quickly shook it off.

"I'm sorry but I'm not allowed to sit with customers while on duty."

"Ah. Of course, but if I'm not mistaken, you are the only person working at this time. No one would know, and you are due to close as soon as I leave. No one will be here to inform your supervisor."

I was taken aback by what the man had to say. He wanted me to sit with him and even after I had refused he continued to ask me. What is up with this guy. There was no way I could refuse him now. Not after everything he said was true. I would also be lying if I said I didn't want to get to know him, at least learn what his name is.

"I guess you are correct. I will gladly sit with you." I smiled as I slid into the booth across form him.

He was quiet while he cut into his meat and ate a bite. It made me feel awkward since I had nothing to busy myself with and I didn't want to get caught staring at him for a second time. The silence was becoming unbearable until he spoke.

"Am I making you feel uncomfortable.?" He asked looking at me?

"Oh, no I'm just a little shy." I said blushing while glancing down at my hands that I had placed in the table.

"Isn't that cute. Well, what is your name Miss.?" He asked trying to continue the conversation.

Did he really call me Miss? I cant believe it!

"My name is Ivy Méndez. What is yours?" I asked quietly while glancing at his face.

"My name is Orion." He answered as he ate another bite.

I was surprised that he didn't give his last name but I thought asking him would be rude. I have to be the luckiest girl ever to get to sit with a man of his stature. I wonder what he thinks of me and why he wants to get to know me in the first place. Why would he ask me to sit with him?  There is nothing special about me. I mean, I don't know of anyone in my family who is famous or rich. And he isn't being forceful or asking me personal questions. I did just start talking with him but he seems to have really good mannerisms.

I was so lost in thought that he had to grab my hand to get my attention. "Are you alright Ivy?" Damon asked with a worried look.

I pulled my hand away from his grasp once I noticed what had happened. I couldn't help but look away since I could feel my face turn the color of a tomato.

"I apologize for touching you. It seems that I have made you feel uncomfortable. Please excuse me." He said solemnly.

He stood up and before I could completely register what had happened he was already at exit. I turned in my eat to say something but I was lost for words. Orion left the building without looking back and I just started at the door he had just left through. After a few seconds of staring I mentally scolded myself for being such a prude that I would freak out over a man touching my hand. I sighed and slumped in the booth seat.

"Could you have f-ed that up any worse Ivy?" I asked myself as I glumly slipped out of the seat and grabbed Orion's plate.

I headed back into the kitchen to wash up the plate. Once the plate was clean I placed it to dry and dried my hands as well. I walked around the whole shop and checked to the tables and doors to sure the place was cleaned and locked up for the people on shift for tomorrow. Satisfied with the doors and the rest of the restaurant, I turned the lights off and headed to my old beat up 1995 Honda civic. While walking to my car I couldn't help but feel as if I was being watched. I stopped and looked around myself but found myself in the center of a completely empty parking lot with only my car. I shivered slightly, but I wasn't sure if it was from the cold of the night or the feeling of being watched. Not wanting to take any chances, I hurried to my car and quickly locked the doors and started the engine. After feeling better with the safety of my car I drove home so I could go strait to bed in hopes of sleeping todays events away.
