Love Only Exists In Stories

When a girl Marie moves to California with her god parents after her parents death, she is unsure if she will be able to fit in. Her high school is different, her neighborhood isn't as simple and the people are hard to be around but after a certain boy introduces himself and she gets to know his friends, nothing can seem more unrealistic than what she is doing.

9. It was a long night

I hadn't quit gotten the hang of it yet, after about an hour of practice, I still couldn't flick my wrist the right way to get it farther than the shallows. Jason brought his arm back and flicked his wrists nicely enough to make the rock skip the surface 5 or 6 times before plopping into the water. The most I had gotten was 2 skips, and almost three if it wasn't for the tide coming in.

"Want some help?" Jason said smugly, knowing I needed help. I threw my rock at him instead of the ocean this time.

"I think you already know the answer to that question." I looked down at the sand, I found another round rock, it looked almost perfect to throw.

"Not that one, try....that one." He gestured to a rock a little to my left, it wasn't as pretty as the first, still round but smaller. I leaned and grabbed the rock, it was light and a greyish color, but at this time of day everything was grey. I heard soft sand moving as Jason walked over and pushed me closer to the rising water.

"Don't be afraid to get in the water." I was pushed to submerge my feet in the water, it was cold but soothing as it smoothed over my toes. Jason bent over and whispered in my ear.

"If you flick your wrist at the last second, it doesn't work, do it about here." He brought my arm around to the side of my body, about half way through the throw. He stepped back, I drew my arm behind me and moved it against the wind. I didn't move my wrist until it was at my side, I let it go and it skipped 6 or 7 times before splashing the water. I turn and see Jason looking out to the water, puzzled.

"What?" Maybe I did something wrong and it was just luck.

"You beat me..."

"That's a bad thing?"

"Yes, because now I have to get rid of you." Jason looked back at me a smiled, he was only joking but his smile was in on the game.

"And how do you plan to do that?" I mockingly said. I knew Jason was taller and bigger than me, but I'm sure I'd cause some bruises. Jason moved closer to me, so we were close enough I could feel his chest move against mine and his breath moved my hair out of my face.

"I don't know, I haven't thought about it." His breath was cinnamon fresh, and warmed my skin. I closed my eyes and opened them again, with another pair of blue ones so close to me. His eyes seemed to trace my features, but they always came back to mine. His hands moved to my arms, I never knew I was so cold until I shivered on the inside. He smiled, and moved them to my face, one on each cheek. He leaned in and closed my eyes, as his soft lips met mine. For the first time, something was going right.
