Love Only Exists In Stories

When a girl Marie moves to California with her god parents after her parents death, she is unsure if she will be able to fit in. Her high school is different, her neighborhood isn't as simple and the people are hard to be around but after a certain boy introduces himself and she gets to know his friends, nothing can seem more unrealistic than what she is doing.

5. Friend or Foe?

I had one thought on my mind, what am I doing? My tour guide Jason had taken me on an adventure to multiple places. One was an ice cream shop that was almost as popular as Baskin Robins, it had a park right behind it where I went straight for the swings. It took a moment for Jason to realize I was actually running toward the swings a 16 years old before he came behind me and started pushing. Personally, it was nice to find someone to fit with the weirdness, but we eventually left and ended up at the square. It was gorgeously aged and had a modern spin on the art placed around the center. As always, the square had a fountain right it the middle, it was like a water fountain connected to three different pool. One of the pools had little to no change in it while the other two had much more. I didn't ask what the meant but because I knew I would find out, they say all of the fountains in the world have a story behind them and behind every penny was held in the hands of someone who had power to control the fountain. Me and Jason had moved from bench to bench just watching the people come out of the stores across the way. Jason knew almost everyone, he had a story behind each of them. A woman came out of a store that sold homemade candles, very old and slow but she said hello to everyone she passed.

"She is Joana. She is 87 years old and still willing to come out of her home every once in a while. Her husband is only one year older than her but they met she said how old he was wouldn't matter when they were married. The first thing he did was said hello to her and she started saying to people on her own. She used to watch over me when my parents were gone."

"Wow, you know everyone, you're very connected." I was truly surprised. At home I had a population of about 100 and never knew anyone but who I had become friends with.

"Not quit." He said

"No? Who is that?"

"She's sitting right next to me." Jason looked over to me and probably saw a red face of shock on me. I didn't know someone could be so smooth!

"What is it you'd like to know?"

"What's you name?"

"That's classified and don't go snooping either." I had to keep the fun going as long as possible.

"Well then answer this, why are you here?" Jason had honest eyes and a mouth drawn into a frown like he knew my answer.

"Well my parents are away and I needed a place to stay." I lied. I had planned that line for days now, but it still didn't do good for me. Jason leaned over and moved the hair from my ear.

"Im sorry for your loss." I couldn't take this any longer, I had to move away and take my mind off of the topic. I stood up and looked around for a place to hid in.

'Lets go in there." I had pointed to a little store that had the words "You and Me" across the front window. Jason stood up and walked over to the store, knocked on the door and checked the window. I knew it was locked, what was he doing? Planning on robbing it?

"I hope you know what your doing, I don't feel like getting arrested."

"Whatever you say." Then He pulled out a key from the lamp hanging near the door and opened it. I was in awe, but walked in anyway. I was bright and open, it had chairs and tables placed around the store and had shelf after shelf of books.

"Welcome to my place. Well, my fathers place but soon to be mine."

"You own a library?" I had always loved books but I never would've been able to tell if Jason was a book person.

"You got it."

"This is amazing you know," I had walked down a row of fiction book, some were brand new with spines still stitched and shined while others, had been torn from the back with frayed edges. A range of widths and sizes, but I couldn't reach for them as I felt Jason watch me.

"You seem so interested." He looked to the stack of books and pulled one out at random. It had Down They Went across the front. It was brand new with a hard cover that had not one finger print on it. I saw the pages and opened to a random page. The page was confusing but took me into a place away from here, another page turned and another character. Jason laughed and I looked up nervous about how I looked.

"What?" I questioned.

"Nothing, except that your so intense in reading, it's cute." He flashed a smile.

"I was never one to be cute, thanks though." I closed the book and walked to the counter towards the front of the store. Putting the book on the counter I pulled out my phone, it was 5:30 but still bright outside.

"I really should get going. Stacy and Mitch will worry."

"I'll take you home, come on." He had almost walked out the front door. He swung it open, the smells and sounds from the square flooded in and I was overwhelmed by it.

"I haven't paid for the book yet."

"Keep it. My gift." He smiled again and walked out, I trailed not to far behind him. He had waited up around the corner of the shop, probably knowing I was going to follow. He locked up the store and I walked out of the square and passing the fountain, but Jason wasn't following anymore, he was at the fountain. I walked back and stood next to him and he acknowledged my presence. I closed my eyes to just listen to the sound of the fountains before Jason spoke again.

"They say the first pool is only made for the people who need a saving grace. The second one is made for those who wish for others and the last to wish for themselves. Naturally people wish for themselves but those who are in the first pool are given a saving grace by the people in the second." Jason looked into the pool as if to look for something, he finally took out 3 pennies and tossed one into each pool.

"Why all three?"

"One for my angel to rescue me, the second to wish the angel their own help and the third to hope that angel is you"
