Waiting For My Time

I'm in love with my best friend, as cheesy as that sounds, but it's true. These kinds of things actually happen, they're not just in stories and books. I'm not really lucky for it either, it's more of a curse. My parents had the same situation, so it basically runs in the family. So this is my life in only a few thousand words, don't be too intimidated.

Part One - An Introduction To My Life

I've always wanted to be a teenager in love with her boyfriend and go on the most romantic dates. Let's just say that I succeeded at half of that. I'm a teenager, and I'm in love. But not with my boyfriend. I don't have a boyfriend, I don't have an almost-boyfriend, I have a best friend.

And as cheesy as this sounds, this best friend is the guy I'm in love with. We had met in the awkward stage of 7th grade when everyone was going through puberty and started getting in relationships; most of those relationships lasted a week or two. His name was Ashton Montgomery.

My name is Ronnie Farsworth, I'm a junior in high school and I'm in love with my best friend. Cheesy, I know. But it isn't like I can stop loving him. But anyways, I live in Joplin, Missouri where the singer of Never Shout Never is from, with that advantage, I had a very nice hug from him before he left on tour for the first time. I'm a bit lucky there, I know.

Tomorrow is the first day of school which means we can't spend as much time together as we usually do which is a bit disappointing but I'll deal with it. And before you get this into your head, I want to say that this isn't like all those books and stories: he isn't a jock and I'm not a nerd, see, it isn't that typical.

Ashton and I are what you'd call average or in-between, just how we like it. And although Ashton isn't the most attractive guy in school, he does have quite a lot of girls wanting to date him. I don't think that makes him popular, I think that just makes him good-looking. Which he is, very good-looking.

You must be saying "oh my god just ask him out already!" Am I right? I would do it though, I'm not that awkward. But he already has a girlfriend who just so happens to be the biggest bitch in school in my mind, pardon my language. Her name is Anna Winston.

As sweet and nice she is to Ashton, she's a total bitch to me and my friends. But don't get me wrong, she's a sweet girl and all but she isn't nice to me anymore.

Anna and I were friends before she went out with him, and I must say that we were pretty good friends too. She kind of turned against me though, it could have been jealousy or a lame attempt of making me jealous. The only thing I'm jealous of is that she has Ashton and I don't. For all I know, she could be trying to get Ashton to hate me for some odd reason.

I don't think her and I could get back the friendship we used to have, even if they broke up. Which kind of makes me upset but she isn't worth being upset over anymore so I've gotten over most of it. Ashton doesn't really know that this is happening, I'm not going to tell him though. He still thinks she's perfect and we're best friends and it's easy that way so that's how it will stay. I don't like lying to him about her though, like all the times we faked hanging out with each other. But its the best for both of our relationships with Ashton.

So here I am, lying in bed on the last night of summer, thinking about how this year will be different from the others. Last year I had Yearbook during lunch so I’m not too sure of what to expect during lunch this year.

It’s as if I’m writing a story inside my head and I’m the main character, facing the troubles of the real world and trying to find myself. Who I really am. To try to conquer my thoughts, I grab the book on my bedside table. Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen, I borrowed it from a friend about a week ago and I’m not even halfway into it. Although, I’ve figured out that very few girls can relate to this book. A teenager who’s pregnant with the newly dead kid’s baby, I don’t know anyone who’s in that situation at the moment but I’ll get back to you on that.

What if I wrote a book? Would people actually be able to relate to it? I doubt it, I’m a terrible writer. I would rather appreciate what others write, their writing is actually good and I don’t want to spend hours of my time editing.

Concluding that I can’t concentrate on the book anymore, I set it back down in its original spot and allow my thoughts to take over. I close my eyes and imagine what it would be like to date Ashton, what it would be like to kiss Ashton. Ashton, Ashton, Ashton.

And before I knew it, I was asleep.

“Ronnie, wake up! It’s the first day of school!” I’m shaken awake by someone, I’m not awake enough to identify the voice. I open my eyes and see Ashton standing over my bed, smiling at me.

“I’m awake you dishwasher!”

“Good, now go get dressed,” before I can say anything, he adds “wear an ultramarine shirt.” He walks out of my room, slamming the door on the way. Typical Ashton.

After looking up what ultramarine is, I hunt my closet and wardrobe for the exact colour of ultramarine. I eventually find a cropped shirt saying “Don’t be afraid to be amazing” and a pair of denim shorts with circle studs. I put on my galaxy Converse and a cross ring, pulling back my hair into a bow. Deciding that I look cute enough, I grab my backpack filled with newly sharpened #2 pencils and go downstairs only to find Ashton eating my cereal.

“Hey, that’s my cereal!”

“I know, I’m eating it,” He says in-between bites. I grab a bowl and sit next to him, pouring myself a bowl.

“So what’s the plan?”

“I was planning on going to school,” he says in a sarcastic tone, I roll my eyes.

“I meant after school, dipshit.”

“Watch your language, there are children here!”

“You’re not a child, Ashton, but nice try.” The conversation goes on and soon, we finish our cereal and Ashton is driving towards school. This is going to be a long day.
