6. Chapter Five: Tricked

(Emily's POV)

"Hey Emily, I've been asking around town for anybody that could get you a job, and there's some coffee shop you could work at it." My dad said while flipping some pancakes.

I sat down at the table, and pulled my sweatshirt sleeves over my hands. "That's great dad, but I think I'm good."

"Emily you're graduating this year, you need to get a job. Don't you remember working at the farm? You loved it there." He placed a pancake on my plate.

"Yeah, well we're not in the country anymore." I said, putting syrup on my pancake before digging in.

"Well then it will be something new then." He said smiling. "I've gotta get going, I'll cya later." He grabbed onto a pancake and ran out the door leaving me home alone. I finished eating, and then went upstairs and grabbed my phone. I called Liam 2 times, but he didn't anwser. So I called Jessica, and me and her were going to go bowling with a couple of her friends.

It took me a couple minutes to find the bowling alley, and I had to drive slow anyways because my dad still didn't trust me on the road. But I found it, and when I got there I met a lot of people. Jessica brought Ashley, Ashley brought her boyfriend James, James brought 3 of his football buddies. And then there was me. We had to split up into two lanes, but I didn't really play. I just kind of cheered people on. "If you're going to just cheer us on, you might as well join cheer-leading." Jessica said laughing.

"That's not my thing." I said laughing too.

"The squad needs more people, you should join." She said sitting down next to me. "Can you do flips?"

"Yeah I use to do gymnastics."

"Use to?" Ashley said, sitting down next to me. "Why quit? I love gymnastics, it's like a hobby for me but I don't go to competition."

"Personal reasons, that I don't feel like explaining." I crossed my arms across my chest. I didn't know Ashley did gymnastics, but she definitely had the body for it. She was slim, and shorter. But definitely confident.

"Come on, cheer-leading is fun." Jessica said nagging me.

"I don't know, I'll think about it."

"Good." She said, getting up to go bowl because it was her turn. I felt my phone vibrate in my back pocket, and I rushed to the back of the bowling alley to answer my phone.

"Hello?" I answered, not even looking at who had called.

"Bowling sounds like fun." I froze, not recognizing the voice.

"Who is this?" I said plugging my other ear so that I could hear who was talking to me.

"It's Justin baby, I'm surprised you didn't figure that out earlier." He laughed.

"Look just screw off, stop being such a pedophile." I said hanging up. He immediately called back, but I rushed over to Jessica. "Jessica, I need to go."

"Oh is something wrong?"

"No it's just my dad, he's sick and I need to take him to the hospital."

"Oh well cya later." She said, not really believing my story.

"Hey wait Emily!" Ashley said rushing over to me, after finishing her turn. "If you want to come over later, we can have a movie night, I can invite Jessica too." I smiled, but felt kind of rushed that Justin was near by.

"Sure I'll call you and we can plan it later?"

"Okay! Tell your dad I hope he gets better." She said smiling as I walked out the door. I got into my car, and looked in my mirror to find Justin's truck blocking me so I couldn't get out. He got out of his car, and I quickly locked all the doors. He came up to my window and smiled.

"Miss me?"

"Not at all." I slammed on the gas petal, and ran right into the side of his truck. I knew it would leave a dent on the car, but I was hoping it would piss him off so he'd screw off.

"You little shit!" He said punching the side of my car, going over to check his truck. I quickly drove off, thankfully having enough room to get away. I looked in my mirror, knowing Justin was following me. I pressed down on the gas a little more, driving as fast as I could to Liam's house. Once I got there I slammed on the breaks, and ran up to the door knocking loudly.

Justin slammed on his breaks stopping in the middle of the street jumping out of his car running towards me. I began to panic, because Liam wasn't opening his door. I was stupid to run into Justin's truck. Knowing he was a lot stronger than me. And of course Liam didn't open his door. Justin came straight up to me grabbing my wrists and throwing me on the ground. "You do something stupid like that ever again, and I'll kill you." He kicked me in the stomach and I groaned in pain. He quickly ran back to his truck and drove off. I didn't cry though. I ran straight over to my house, leaving my car in Liam's driveway. I walked inside the house and collapsed on the couch carefully.

I lifted my shirt slowly, looking at my side. A purple bruise had formed where he had kicked me. I winced a little as I touched it. I guess I deserved what I had gotten. But Justin was starting to scare me.

(Liam's POV)

"Mom I'm going out." I said walking out the door not caring if she could hear me or not. I heard my phone buzzing, and I looked down to see Emily calling me. I about answered but I stopped, I couldn't hang out today because I was meeting up with Justin. I got into my truck, and I heard my phone going off again. Emily was calling again, but drove off to Harry's place. When I got there he gave me some bullets.

"Hey Liam look what I got at a party last night." I followed Harry into his bedroom, and opened a drawer to his dresser. He pulled out a a tiny bag, with drugs. "It's Crystal Meth, do you want some?" He said opening the bag.

"No, you know what happened the last time I took drugs." I said thinking of the memories of that night.

"Sorry man, I should have known better to ask you." He put the drugs back into his drawer and we went down into his basement to talk out some plans for out next gang fight that's allies with Justin's gang.

After a while, I had to meet up with Justin over at his place. When I got there, I rang the door bell, but he didn't anwser. When I got back into my truck to drive home, I realized what he had done. He told me to meet me at his house so I couldn't be there for Emily. He was with her. And I was stupid not to realize it. He lived close to town, which was a good thing. Maybe I could get there in time. I slammed down on the breaks, and when I got to my house Emily's car was sitting in my driveway. "Shit." I parked my truck to the side of the road and ran inside. I knocked on Emily's door. And thankfully she answered  but she didn't look so good. "Oh my god Emily." I went to go reach for her, but she pulled away.

"Just go away." She pushed me by the chest so she could close to door, but I grabbed onto her arm noticing bruising around her wrists. "Let go Liam."

"Justin did this to you?" She didn't answer, and she didn't have to because I knew he had done it. She pulled her arm away from me. She tried to close the door once again, but I pushed it open so she couldn't. I walked inside then. "Did he hurt you anywhere else?"

"No just leave." She said trying to hide her eyes with her hair.

"Emily, tell me." I said, my voice sounding a little bit more heavy than I expected it to. She looked up at me, and her eyes were watering. Her hands were shaking as she grabbed onto the bottom of her shirt, and slowly lifted it upwards. A dark purple bruise was on her side. "I'm going to kill him." I started storming towards the door, but Emily pushed in front of me and stood in front of the door.

"Don't leave me please." Her voice was tempting, and I felt my muscles in my arms tense.

"Emily I have business I need to take care of."

"Liam please." I looked at her for a couple of seconds.

"Fine." Before I could go pull her into a hug, she had her arms wrapped around me. I carefully wrapped my arms around her as well. She softly sobbed into my chest, and I felt like all of this was my fault. About an hour later, Emily and I were up in her bedroom laying down on her bed. She wasn't talking, but I was helping her ice her stomach. "Do you want to talk about it?"

I re-positioned my hand that was on the ice pack placed on her stomach. I felt her cold skin touch mine as she grabbed onto my hand. "I better be going soon." I said taking my hand away from her as I got up out of her bed.

"No, please." She sat up, holding onto her side.

"My mom is going to be wondering." I said putting on my jacket.

"No you can't leave me Liam." She got up out of her bed and blocked the door again.

"Emily." I crossed my arms across my chest.

"What if he comes back? What if her hurts me again." She started crying and I felt bad again.

"You seriously want me to stay all night?"

"If that's what it's going to take to make him stay away, then yes." I was surprised by her answer, but honestly I didn't mind staying all night. The thought of Emily close to me made me feel a lot better.

"Okay." She eased her stance by the door and made her way back to the bed. I laid down next to her, and she cuddled close to my chest.

"Do you believe in love at first sight?" She asked, breaking the silence.

"I don't know." She didn't respond, and we were quiet for at least 10 minutes. "Emily, I-." I stopped myself then, noticing she was sleeping. I smiled, and rested my head back on the pillow. I still didn't know if I believed in love at first sight, but I felt like I was in love.
