Learning to Let Go

Annalise is a volleyball all-star. One who will have the ability to go to the Olympics. It's just a natural talent. At 15, two years ago, she got involved with Seth. A sweet guy, really. But she stopped focusing on volleyball. After breaking up, she swore she wouldn't date until making the Olympics. So much for that, now she's got a new crush, one that she's trying to keep hidden. It's bad enough she has one problem, but she's moving down the block to a bigger house. Why? Because three years after her father's death, her mom is ready to marry again, to Ryan Kennedy. The worst part? Annalise has trouble getting along with Dylan, Ryan's 14 year old son.

8. It's No Use

A couple days passed and Derek insisted on driving me back and forth from school and stayed by my side every moment he could. I could tell he felt really bad about Seth raping me. I tried to reassure him but he wouldn't listen. Finally it was Friday, and nothing had happened.
Until I had to go to the bathroom.
"Mrs. Diber?" I asked.
"Yes, dear?"
"Can I go to the bathroom?"
"Make it quick," she chirped and off I went.
I walked down the hall and slipped into the bathroom. After coming out of the stall, I saw Seth leaning casually against the sinks.
I cussed. I'm not proud of it, but I did.
He came closer and tried to kiss me and pull me closer.
"Don't touch me," I said, my voice dangerously low.
"Aw, come off it, Annalise. You know you want me," he smirked.
I kicked him in the shin when he tried to kiss me again. He doubled over and said, "Alright, you asked for it."
He pushed me against the wall and tried pulling down my shorts. HECK TO THE NO. I kicked him in the balls and he doubled over for several seconds. I tried to make a run for it but he caught my wrist and yanked me back against the wall. Hard. I started to sob as he pushed his body against mine roughly.
He clamped a hand over my mouth as I tried to scream and I squirmed trying to get away, but his grip was tight. His fingers slid down the front of my shorts and I winced.
"Stop!" I screamed.
"Stop the slow and go faster?"
"NO! Stop touching me!" I sobbed. "If you really loved me you wouldn't be doing this with out my permission!"
"You're right." He pulled his hand out of my shorts and I sighed with relief.
"I'd be doing this," he said as he stuck his hands up my shirt and pulled me close and kissed me. I almost barfed.
He pulled away and his fingers grazed my bra. He pushed it. Gosh, I know bras are squishy but really! But even that was better then when he pulled my bra down.
"It's no use, Annalise," he said seductively. "You'll never get away from me."
Thank God he had to duck into a stall when someone came in!
I ran all the way back to Mrs. Diber's room and plopped into my seat in the back and never said a word for the rest of class.
When Derek came to me at the end of the day he immediately sensed something was wrong. I sighed and told him what happened and he held me close.
"Tell you what," he said. "I'll come pick you up in a half hour to go to the board walk."
"Ok."
I drove home and stripped off my shorts and t-shirt and put on jean shorts and a satin-like cream-colored vest that I tied in the back with a pony tail and buttoned it a bit low. I slipped on aqua-marine converse, pulled my hair out of my messy bun leaving it curly, and sat in outside to wait for Derek.
15 minutes later, I was walking down the boardwalk hand in hand with Derek towards Fauna's.
"I'm sorry about what happened," Derek said.
"Don't worry about it," I said. "I'm still a virgin."
"Want to go to the beach?"
I smiled, taking a sip of my Freezy. "Sure, but I don't have a bathing suit."
"C'mon, I'll drive you," he said.
I sighed. "All right."
He drove me home and I quickly pulled on my aqua marine bikini, pulled on my vest, leaving it unbuttoned and my shorts. I slipped on flip flops and headed to where Derek had just pulled up from his house after pulling on his bathing suit. I slipped into the car and he drove to the beach.
"C'mon, Lise, hurry!" Derek called from the water.
I slipped off my shorts and threw them on top of my vest, but before I could turn around Derek picked me up and threw me into the water.
I screamed and came up, giggling. "Derek Gladhill!" I screamed.
"Annalise Simpson!" He said right back.
"Soon to be Annalise Kennedy," I muttered.
"Hey, Ryan's not a bad guy," Derek said. "He cares about you."
"But he's not my Dad. No one can ever even try to replace him."
"He's not trying to replace him, he's trying to be a part of your life, Annalise. Just give him a chance."
"Alright. Anyway, I have to help to start to move things into the new house today, so I better go."
"Can I help?" Derek pleaded.
"You want to help?" I asked, stupefied.
"Sure, as long as I'm with you!" He said cheekily.
I rolled my eyes. "Alright. Come over in an hour."
Derek drove me home, before continuing down the street to his house. I ripped off my bikini and pulled my other clothes back on. Slipping on high-tops, I ran down the stairs remembering something.
"Mom, where's Frolic? I haven't seen her since a day before I bought Rosy."
"Oh. Um, about that..." My mom turned to look at me. "She disappeared while you were at practice that day. I didn't have the heart to tell you. Then when you got Rosy I thought maybe...maybe you knew where she had gone and so I never mentioned it."
I started to cry. "How could I have not noticed her absence until now?!"
"You've had a lot on your mind, hon. She's normally very quiet. I'm sorry."
I shook my head and look down, where Rosy was sitting looking up at me and giving me a doggy grin. I reached down and rubbed her head.
"Alright," I finally said. "I'll start putting a bunch of boxes in my car from my room."
Just then Ryan arrived with Delaney, Dylan, and Riley. I smiled at them.
"Mom, Derek's going to come and help too."
"That'll be great. We might have most of the boxes from our house in the new house today. Then we can start on Ryan's house."
"Who's Derek, Annalise?" Ryan asked.
Oh great.
"My boyfriend."
"Oh. Well, I'd very much like to meet him," he said a bit awkwardly.
"Well, he's coming over to help."
"Alright."
Just then, Derek walked in. "What did I miss?" He asked.
"You can help me with the boxes in my room," I said. "C'mon."
We raced upstairs, Riley and Delaney at our heels. After a half an hour my entire room was bare. Most of the boxes were in my car and my furniture pieces and some boxes in Derek's car. Delaney and Riley stayed back to help Mom and Ryan, as there was no room in either car for the both of them.
Finally, at 10:46 p.m., every single solitary thing belonging to mwa, or my mom was in our new house. Not everything unpacked, of course, but everything was there!
The start of my new life as Annalise Kennedy would begin tomorrow with my Mom's wedding. I can't wait.
Not.
