Lauren Mett, a 19 year old college student who just wants to live life to the fullest and be happy, is stressed out about finals and her tragic breakup with her boyfriend. As she is driving to college she gets a text from the worst person possible. Frustrated and feeling the tears stream down her face she closes her eyes for a second. The next thing she knows her car is nose to nose with another. Totaled cars, trips to the hospital, and both barely injured, Harry and Lauren both come out alive.
It all feels like a dream, but what happens when they wake up?

12. Why?

He sat there, brain not comprehending what just happened. The letter from the girl he thought he loved, and loved him back, still in his hands, being read over and over so he could try to understand why she left. Her words stung him, leaving a hole in his heart, where she belonged.

‘I can’t handle it right now’

‘I care way too much to get hurt again’

‘I am holding you back from all that you could have in life’

‘This isn’t easy for me at all, but I know I can’t hurt you anymore’

‘I can’t keep hurting the people I love, Haz’

He continued skimming through the letter, eyes welling up with tears, and the pain in his chest becoming almost unbearable. He only wanted to know one thing. Why?  Why was she leaving? Why couldn’t she make sure he was ok? Why wasn’t she… Happy?   Did she even love him?

The way she ended the letter sent him over the edge.

‘I’ll love you forever & always.’

It was a simple way of showing that she truly loved him, but he still couldn’t figure out why she left.

‘I am not exactly who you think I am. I am holding you back from all that you could have in life.  You need to live life, not be stuck with someone who isn’t letting you live your life completely.  You probably are wondering what I mean, but you will realize it all soon.  I can’t handle being around you right now, since all of this is my fault.  I am causing everyone more pain then you could ever imagine.

Lately I have been feeling guilty for not telling you what is going on, but I though you would hate me for taking you away from the people you love.’

He wasn’t sure what she meant, but he was going to find out.

He used all the strength he could muster to stand up from the hospital bed.  Once up, walking was easy.  He made his way over to his clothes that were on top of a chair in the corner of the room, and went into the bathroom to change.

He looked at himself in the mirror.  His hair was a mess and his eyes were red, puffy, and surrounded by bags.  He looked awful.  After he fixed his hair and splashed water on his face, he looked a lot better.

Now all he had to do was get out of the building without being seen.
