9. Hotel

I woke up in an unfamiliar room the next morning. Since I didn’t remember going to sleep at all, I found it all extremely suspicious. That was when I noticed to arms wrapped around me and the sound of deep breathing. I panicked, screamed, and fell to the wooden floor with a satisfying thud.

“Scar, are you okay?” a worried red head helped me to my feet.

“Where are we?” I asked, completely ignoring his question.

“Well, it was late so I booked a hotel room for the night.” Matt explained.

I sighed with relief and sadness.

“What's up?” he asked, placing a hand on my shoulder.

“It’s just…Mello must have hated me, no I know he hated me.” I said, tears threatening to gush out once again.

“Scarlet, Mello never hated you.” Matt reassured, “Sure, he was kind of pissed off, but he never hated you. Come on, we were all like family; how could he hate you?”

I explained the phone call to Wammy's all those years ago to him. Tears streamed down my cheeks as I told Matt how all this time Mello had said that I didn’t care.

I dried my eyes and drove to headquarters to pick up my stuff. Of course, I wasn’t allowed to see what was going on and Matsuda had to accompany me. Just being in my old room brought more tears to my eyes. As quickly as I could, I packed up all my things into a bag.

“Why did you quit?” He asked before we went downstairs.

“Because I know the guy who was in the car, and Mello and Near as well.” I said.

Matsuda’s jaw dropped but I just kept walking; I didn’t want to spend any more time there than I had to.

I got back into my car and drove back to the hotel.

“I’m back!” I sang as I entered our room. There was no answer.

“Matt?” I called as I placed my bag on the bed.

Where was he? I searched all over the room but he was nowhere to be found. Maybe he just went out to the shop. He would be back any second. I put my stuff in the draw by the bed and sat down.

I waited. And waited. And waited. An hour had passed and he still wasn’t back. Where was he?
