9. Chapter 9

Niall agreed to help Cami out even though she had been dodging him for awhile now. Cami was freaking out about what was going on at the hospital.

Niall arrived at the house twenty minutes after Cami had called him.

"You okay?" he asked smoothly getting out of the car.

"I'm not sure. Freaking out. I don't know what is going on but I can't leave them here alone. She was suppose to be here anyway. I don't know why she didn't call me. Ugh, I don't know. Thank you for doing this," Cami was talking really fast and on a single breathe. "I don't know how long I'll be but it's quite a walk so I need to leave. Let me go tell the kids who you are and all."

Cami turned to walk into the house but Niall grabbed her, pulling her into a hug.

"Cami, breathe okay?"

Cami took a deep breathe and slowly let it out. She was on the verge of tears and she was happy that Niall had pulled her in for a hug.

Another breathe and she pulled away feeling slightly better.

"Better?" Niall asked.

"Yes," she said.

Once again Cami turned around to head inside but Niall grabbed her hand this time. He slipped his keys to his Range Rover into her hand.

"Take the car, you shouldn't be walking," he said.

Cami shook her head, "I can't. I'm already asking too much of you."

"Please, just take it."

Cami nodded and finally they were walking inside.

"Cami!" a little girl screamed running into her. Her blonde hair was in pigtails and you could tell by the redness of her face she had been crying.

The little girl was young, only five. She looked like she had seen a ghost or something.

"Hope, baby what's wrong?" she asked the little girl.

The other five children all ran from the backroom into Cami after realizing she was here. Cami hugged all of them and Niall stood there confused.

All six of them were yelling and trying to get Cami to listen to them. It was all just a mixture of voices that Cami couldn't understand.

"Hey guys! Guys! Calm down. What happened Stacy?" Cami turned to the oldest of the children in the room. She was ten and everyone could see the fear laid out on her face.

Stacy looked down and her strawberry blonde hair fell over her face. "Mommy got into a fight with him, in the bedroom."

"Stacy, who is him?" Cami asked keeping her voice quiet.

Stacy got scared easily and you had to be gentle. Cami knew that whatever happened had shaken her up badly. Stacy started crying and fell onto the ground. The other five children were still clinging onto Cami so she couldn't make her way over to Stacy.

Niall, who Cami had forgotten was even there, walked over to Stacy slowly.

"Stacy, don't be scared."

He extended his hand slowly to her. Stacy looked up and immediately looked back down. Niall wrapped his arms around her and whispered, "Shh it's okay."

The little nine year old boy stopped clinging onto Cami. His brown hair fell into his eyes and he whispered, "It was a mean man Cami."

"George, what do you mean?" Cami asked him setting the kids down on the couch.

"Mama said to go to our rooms. Or go outside. But we weren't allowed in her room. He smelled like alcohol. Heavy alcohol. Worse than daddy," George looked down at his feet to hide the tears.

Cami hugged him close wiping away his tears as he started a complete meltdown.

"Cami," the youngest of her brothers pulled at her shirt.

The four year old looked too precious standing there. He had been crying but was now trying to act tough by not crying.

"Yes Peter?"

"His name was Rocky. Mama left with her face covered in blood. Is mama okay?" the little boy asked looking at Cami with bright, blue eyes.

"I don't know Peter," Cami said biting her lip. She took a few deep breathes and before she knew it Niall was there holding her.

"I'm here," he whispered into her ear.

Cami's eight year old brother walked up to her handing her a tissue, "Thank you Reese."

Cami blew her nose and stood up. The only two that hadn't said anything to Cami directly were the twins, who were seven. They held onto each others hands and whispered to each other.

"Malcolm," Cami sighed. "Melony, are you two okay?"

"Yes," they answered in unison refusing to look up at Cami.

"Mama said it was your fault," Melony said.

"Mama said if you wasn't so lazy she wouldn't have to do this," Malcolm said.

"Mama hit me because I was in the room," Melony said lifting up her sleeve revealing a deep purple bruise.

Cami rushed over and examined the bruise. Cami couldn't believe her mother did this to her. She was only seven and it was completely wrong. Cami could not wait to get to the hospital and tell her mother off for all of this.

The door flew open and John was standing there.

"Cami! Thank God," John yelled running into the room. "And who are you?" he asked Niall.

"Niall, I'm Cami's friend. I was going to watch the kids while she went to the hospital."

"Oh," John said looking at Cami. "Mr. Thompson said I better get home. Something happened to mom."

Cami nodded, "I have to go to the hospital. Niall is going to stay with you guys. Be nice, I'll be back soon."

"I want to come with you!" John yelled as Cami grabbed the door knob.

"John, please. Stay here."
