12. Chapter 12

"Cami?" Niall asked as she slowly opened the door.

"Cami what happened?" John asked while a few of the younger kids stood up.

"Mom isn't coming home for awhile. Go outside and play," Cami's voice was emotionless. Everyone looked at her but her expression was blank, cold, and empty.

"Come on guys, let's give her a minute," John said gathering up all of them and leading them outside

"Cami? Do you want to talk about it?" Niall's voice was low as he reached out to grab her hand. It was the only way he could think to reassure her that he was there for her. "I'm here Cami."

Cami continued to sit there as if she was in some sort of trance. A million thoughts were running through her mind. She didn't know if her mother had killed the man in question but the Detective asked could she have the oldest of her siblings to see the man at the home to come identify him. Cami couldn't take this type of stress.

"Cami, do you want some water? Tea? I'll get you anything," Niall's voice was sweet.

"Water, please," Cami managed to let the two simple words escape her mouth.

Niall nodded and headed into the kitchen. Cami didn't know why Niall was being so nice but she knew she needed him right now. She needed a friend to help her because everything was crashing down on her.

Cami pulled out her cell phone, scrolling through her contacts until she reached her aunt Mary's number. Mary was the only relative that her mother ever spoke to. Cami hovered over the green call button for a moment before hitting it, pressing the phone to her ear.

Niall returned with a glass of water and a warm smile.

"Aunt Mary?" Cami wasn't about to cry.

"Cami? Is that you? Dear what's wrong?"

Cami knew that Mary was living in London with her husband but it was her only chance. She needed to get the other kids away from this mess. Mary had found out she was unable to have children when Cami was seven. Cami vividly remembered her mother crying with her. This was the last day she would see her aunt Mary in a long time. It wasn't until she was eleven when Mary called her mother announcing a wedding.

Mary offered to fly the whole family out to London for the celebration but her mother refused, simply because she was pregnant again. And Cami's father simply said no. Mary came to see the family shortly after their honeymoon.

"I need your help," Cami bit her bottom lip.

"Oh dear. What has happened?"

"I'm not exactly sure," Cami felt her chest heave as an image of her mother in distress flashed in front of her eyes. "Mom, she has gotten herself into a lot of trouble."

Niall rubbed Cami's back reminding her that he was there and he cared.

"What type of trouble?" Cami heard Mary move the phone away from her mouth but she could still hear her talking to her husband. "George, find out when the next plane to Ireland is for me. I need to go. Cami are you still there sweetheart?"

"The police think she killed a man," another flash of her mother drenched in blood flashed in front of her. Cami threw down the phone and ran into the kitchen. She threw up any remaining contents of her stomach into the sink. The smell made her gag again and wrench a few more times.

Niall was there behind her, holding her hair. Cami didn't notice he was also holding her phone.

"Hello miss. I'm a friend of Cami's. I think she could use a family member here. For support," Niall spoke into Cami's phone while he helped sit her down at the table.

"Tell Cami I'm on my way. My husband just purchased our tickets. We'll be there shortly. Tell her to hold in there."

Niall didn't have a chance to respond before the woman hung up on him. He set the phone down on the counter grabbing a rag. Wiping down Cami's face before getting it cool to put wipe down her face again.

"Are you okay? Do you need to go lay down?" Niall asked.

"I can't," Cami still felt sick. "I have to tell them."

"No Cami. It can wait. They are scared enough just from you walking through the door with a death expression on your face. We need to collect you first," Niall said holding her chin in his hand.

The two of them had been oblivious to the door opening and John standing in the doorway.

"Cami tell me what is going on, please," John pleaded.

"Aunt Mary is on her way. Shouldn't be more than a few hours," her vision was blurry and her stomach was in knots. A feeling she had never experienced.

"Why won't you tell us what is going on?" John's voice went from desperate to angry.

"Because I don't know how to!" Cami shouted back attempting to stand up. Nearly falling over but Niall caught her quickly. "You think you can handle this! Go ahead! I'm much older than you but I can't!"

"Cami just calm down. Sit down before you fall," Niall begged her.

"You think I can't! I can!" John was angry.

"Fine! Want to know what is going on!" Cami yelled while Niall begged her to just sit down.

"Cami stop! John just drop it please," Niall felt completely out of place.

"Stay out of this!" John yelled at Niall.

"The police think mom killed a man! Okay! Murdered him! And the woman we know as our mother is gone! She isn't our mother! I just saw her! She looked possessed," Cami fell back into the chair as tears started running down her cheeks again. "John, mom is gone."
