11. Chapter 11

The woman was wearing a white, hospital gown and had hair similar to her mother's. She was facing the wall and Cami couldn't be certain that it was her mother.

"Her back is turned," Cami said stepping away from the door.

Doctor Campbell was about to say something when both of them took another step away from the door as the woman crashed into it. She was screaming and Cami inhaled took quickly causing her to choke.

"Cami are you okay?" Doctor Campbell asked repeatedly while the woman continued to scream.

"Let me out!" she screamed loudly.

Cami shook her head in response to the doctor as tears started falling from her eyes.

"That's my mother," she choked out and fell to the ground.

"Cami, it's okay," Doctor Campbell didn't sound so convincing but she helped Cami up and led her out of the corridor.

Detective Rodgers was awaiting furiously for them. You could sense his heated expression a mile away. He was busy pacing back and forth while yelling to someone on his cell phone.

"I'll call you back," he paused and hung up the phone. He probably could tell from Cami's red eyes and the steady shaking of her body the answer to the question he so desperately needed. "Alright Cami. I need you to come down to the station with me so I can get your full statement."

"Detective?" Doctor Campbell asked in a rather quiet voice.

"Yes Doctor?"

"I would like to withdraw my need to evaluate Cami. I will sign any necessary paperwork for her to become full guardian of her younger siblings. That is," she turned to face Cami who was still in shock, "if Cami would like the full guardianship?"

Cami just nodded not really knowing what to say. The only thing on her mind was why?

Why did her mother do this?

Why did her mother not tell her about any of this?

Why why why?

Cami wanted to scream but nodded as the detective repeated a lot of information that was probably important but right now Cami did not care at all. Everything Cami had known was coming to an end.

Her mother was withholding a large secret from her family this entire time and now the only thing she had left to wonder was did her father know? Is that why her father left?

"Detective Rodgers?" Cami interrupted whatever he was talking about. He looked startled but paused and nodded to her. "I will take full guardianship of my siblings but I need to ask can you find our father?"

Two years had passed since she saw her father last. Two days before he eighteenth birthday he left without any warning. Cami remembered having to take her younger siblings out of the house so her parents could fight but she still loved her father very much.

"I'll need his name but yes Cami. I will see what I can do. We need to head down to the station," he sounded sincere for a moment.

"One more thing," Cami said following him to the elevators. "The man that was killed, my younger siblings who were home saw him. He was arguing with my mother before whatever happened happened. Are you going to have to question them?"

"I am afraid so Cami. They could help us understand why your mother did what she did because-" Cami cut him off.

"She's been acting different for awhile now. She wasn't helping me with the bills but using all her money for new clothes and things she didn't need. I didn't know she was bipolar," Cami took a deep breath as they stepped on the elevator.

"I'm sorry Cami," he said pressing the button and the rest of time was silent.

Cami couldn't believe everything that was happening right now.
