9. Chapter 9

*Zayn’s POV*

I thanked the bartender for my third beer and as I turned to head back to the booth something, more like someone, caught my eye. I doubled back to what I had just seen to make sure it wasn’t the alcohol getting to me; sure enough there was Zoe sitting with Liam. I guess she didn’t really have to use the loo and that prick took his chance and got her alone. Well, two can play at that game. I walked over to the table that they were sitting at, not even bothering to take my beer with me, and asked Zoe to dance, interrupting Liam in the middle of whatever he was blabbering on about.

She jumped back a bit and I saw her stunning light brown eyes show a slight confusion for a second and replied, “Sure, one second while Liam fin-” I cut her off before she had the chance to say anything else and grabbed her hand pulling her towards the dance floor. She reluctantly followed as I lead her to the center of the club, in the midst of a crowd of drunken dancers, who were grinding on each other.

She looked up at me with a questioning look that I ignored as I went behind her and placed my hands on her hips. The music was loud and blaring, the beat was vibrating through the walls and floors. I swayed my hips to the music, while she sort of just stood there, awkward and confused. I continued to  move my waist and hips against her backside, and she still seemed to be lost in her own world. She then tried saying something to me, but I couldn’t hear what it was due to the loud music, and continued dancing. When she didn’t move her body with mine, I took her hands in mine and placed them around my neck, and then moved my hands back down to her hips. I physically moved her body with mine, showing her how to sway to the rhythm, and she finally began to move with me. After a few minutes, she started to get more into it and began to really grind against me. She moved her backside back and forth against my groin, which caused me to get even more turned on. I didn’t know Zoe could move like this; she’s very good with her hips.

I closed my eyes and focused on the feeling of our bodies moving together, on the music shaking the club, on me and Zoe together. I was really enjoying our dancing, when all of a sudden the warm body against mine disappeared. I snapped my eyes open, and turned my head, only to see the back of Zoe being lead forward by a tall guy with dark hair. Louis. My mood instantly became sour again. I can’t believe he would just steal her away from me like that.

*Louis POV*

I had watched as Zayn stole Zoe away from Liam just as I had watched as Zayn force Zoe into grinding. He was obviously drunk, no doubt, and once I saw his face light up with pleasure and Zoe’s have more and more discomfort I couldn’t take it. I walked up to them and grabbed her elbow, careful not to hit Zayn so he wouldn’t beat me to death when he realized what I was doing. Immediately after I had started to lead her towards the back relief washed over her face and she smiled up at me, grabbed my hand, and said, “my hero.”

Her face gleamed with sweat from being on the crowded large group of grinding but she still looked absolutely perfect. She didn’t question where I was taking her, just followed my lead. We eventually made it through the crowd of people and made it to the staircase door. I didn’t waste a second looking around for security or anyone, I had them all wrapped around my finger meaning I could do as I pleased. I began up the stairs and suddenly Zoe’s hand was no longer in mine, I turned around confused why she let go. “What’s wrong,” I asked her, puzzled.

“We can’t go up there Lou.”

“Yes we can.”

“Louis, we are going to get in trouble,” she looked worried about how much trouble we would get it and I tried to reassure her.

“No, Zoe trust me. I wouldn’t do anything to get you in trouble. If we do I’ll say it was my fault and they will let you stay. I promise, you will not get in trouble.” She sighed and walked through the doorway and grabbed my hand. We made it to the top of the staircase and this time I let go of her hand.

“What’s wrong,” she asked, looking up at me with concern in her eyes.

“Close your eyes.”

“Ummm, what?”

“Just close your eyes.”
    “Why?”

“Zoe, just close them.”

“Why?”

“Cause, if you don’t I will tickle you.”

She flinched, moving to hide her ticklish spots and replied with a “fine” and closed her eyes. “You better not tickle me,” she warned while reached for my arm.

“I won’t,” I replied simply and grabbed her hand and opened the door. A cool breeze greeted us as we stepped outside and I walked her to the railing and moved to go behind her, wrapping my arms around her waist.

“You can open your eyes now,” I whispered into her ear. I watched as her eyes slowly opened and immediately began to shine with joy. We stood there for a few minutes, me holding her in my arms and us staring out at the indescribably beautiful view.

“Lou,” she whispered, finally breaking the silence, “this is-”

“I know,” I said cutting her off. She turned around and placed her hands around my neck. We began to sway, as if dancing to our own song, and she leaned in closer to me, nuzzling her face into my neck as I did to the top of her head into her brilliant brown hair.

She pulled away only enough for her face to be inches from mine and smiled a small grin at me. I leaned in and stopped when I could barely feel her lips on mine and her breather warmed them. “You’re beautiful Zoe, I mean-”

“Zoe,” I heard an Irish voice exclaim the floor below us on the street. “Zoe,” the voice screamed louder this time.

“Hello, Niall,” Zoe called down to him as if she was Juliet and he was her (very) drunk Romeo.

"Zoe! Come here! I wanna-Oh hey Louis! What are you two doing," Niall called up while staggering side to side.

"Niall, I be down in a second. Please be careful!" And with that she turned and headed to was the staircase.

"But... Zoe," I asked her, while letting all the pain show in my voice, and on my face. She looked at me as if I were a lost puppy and walked up to me elegantly, but kind of rushed.

“I’m sorry Louis,” she whispered in my ear while embracing me in a hug. She moved away, again with her arms still around my neck, and kissed my cheek. I stood there, unable to move, and watched as the left me, standing alone, and went to help Niall into the back of a taxi. She somehow was also able to grab her coat and purse while heading out; she was amazing, and soon this amazing girl would be mine.

*Zoe's POV*

I stopped at the booth were Liam taken me and I grabbed my clutch and coat, gave him a small hug, told him that Niall wanted to take me out for some Nando's, and to tell the others goodbye. He seemed upset when I told him I had to leave but even more when I told him I was going with Niall. I rushed out the door not giving any of the other boys another thought, right now I needed to focus on Niall. I met up with him, and the few security guards surrounding him, where I told him to stay. “Hey Zoe,” he said slurring his words together while attempting to walk over to me.

I walked over and put my arm around his waist before he had the chance to fall and he responded by placing his arm over my shoulders, along with half his weight. I began to fall under the weight but rearranged the placement of his arm and shifted my standing position. “Niall, can we get in the limo please,” I asked, attempting to be louder than the music coming from the club behind us.

“Nandos,” he screamed in my ear. It was hardly impossible to understand a drunk, screaming, and Irish boy but I managed to make out his word.

“Yes, we can go to Nando’s,” I told him while helping him into the back of the limo.

“Driver, to the nearest Nando’s,” he told the driver, still yelling.

“Niall,” I told him, “we are inside the limo. Please use your, uh, inside voice.”

He lowered his head and began to sniffle whispering, “am I in trouble?” He sounded like a little kid.

“No, no you are not in trouble, I just need you to quiet down a little.” I grabbed his hand to comfort him. He didn’t say anything, he just nodded and squeeze my hand, unwilling to let go.

Twenty minutes later we were still in the limo driving to, apparently, the nearest Nando’s. “What’s taking so long,” Niall complained, moaning and grabbing his stomach as if someone just shot him or something.

“We’ll be there soon Niall. Why don’t you lay down and close your eyes,” I suggested. Hopefully he would fall asleep, then I would find out what to do with him.

“That is a good idea!” He looked excited then a second later his expression changed to confusion. “Where do I put my head,” he asked, sounding like he was going to begin crying again.

“Here, you can lay on my lap,” I told him while moving my coat and clutch to the floor beside my feet. He smiled and began to readjust placing his feet on the seat and leaning back on my lap looking up to me. I ran my fingers through his hair and asked, “See, isn’t that better?”

“Yeah,” he said, flashing me a cheesy grin and nodding like four-year-old when asked if he wanted candy. I didn’t reply, instead I began to hum You Are My Sunshine. My mom, when she actually acted like a mother, used to sing the song over and over again until I would fall asleep after a nightmare. As the millions of memories of my mother and I came flooding back I felt my eyes begin to fill with tears that I tried to blink away, but that just made it worse. Eventually tears were running down my face as I played with Niall’s hair and tried to wipe them all away before they had the chance to fall of my face and onto his. I was suddenly crying more than I thought possible and tried to stop before Niall woke up. The driver gave me a questioning look as if I still wanted to go to Nando’s and with my crackling voice I asked him to just take me to my house and gave him the address.

About fifteen minutes later we pulled up to the curb and I lightly shook Niall and cooed in his ear, “Niall, Niall, come on time to get up sleepy head. Come on, Niall, please wake up.”

He squeezed his eyes shut and snuggled his face into my stomach and said, “Five more minutes, please.”

“Niall, we are going to go upstairs to my flat and I’ll get you some coffee, er, tea.... well whatever you want, and then you can sleep for as long as you want, okay?”

“Fine,” he groaned, still slurring from sleep and the alcohol. He stumbled getting out of the car and all the way up the flight of stairs, but eventually, we made it. I lead him towards the coach in my room/living room, took off his shoes, put them on the floor, and then walked over to my closet and grabbed two of the blankets I kept on the floor, along with a pillow from my bed.

I watched as he moved around after I placed the pillow under his head to be sure he was okay. “Goodnight Niall,” I whispered more to myself than him and lightly kissed his cheek.

As he fell into a deeper into sleep I headed towards the bathroom to change into way more comfortable clothes, aka pajamas. “So get out, get out, get out of my head, and fall into my arms instead” I started singing quietly but noticed that it sounded like other voices were singing with me. I stopped and listened to the muffled sound and realized that it was Katie’s ringtone, she chose it because it was her absolute favorite One Direction song. I ran across my room and attacked my clutch containing my phone. I took it out and hit the answer button as fast as I possibly could and went into the hall and headed towards the staircase to walk around outside while we talked.

“Hey Zoe,” Katie screamed through the speaker before I even had a chance to get it to my ear, thank god.

“Hey,” I hear a deeper voice say.

“Katie! And Ryan,” I screamed my question.

“You guessed it,” he confirmed.

Ryan was my other best friend, so technically my second best friend if that’s what you wanted to call him. We had met on the first day of 7th grade in Honors English. Lets just say that I was never as outgoing as I am today, not that I really am but I’m getting better. As I was saying we met the first day and I was one of the first to get in class so I had my seat chosen and he was the very last to enter after all the seats were taken. He came and sat next to me and after a week Katie, him, and I did everything together from lunch each day to a movie night every Friday.

“Zoe, we miss you so much,” I could just imagine her exaggerating everything she said with hand gestures and facial expressions.

“Speak for yourself Katie. I for one am in love with the fact that she is gone,” Ryan disagreed, his voice thick with sarcasm.

“That is so mean Ryan! Take it back!” I heard her slapping his arm and then laughing. Katie’s laugh is quite contagious and I found myself laughing with her..

“Guys, wh-what are you-u doing,” I tried to say in between laughs.

“Zoe! Zoe! He put my arms behind my back! Make him stop,” Katie screamed, throwing one of her famous fits.

I sighed loud enough for Ryan to hear over Katie and spoke up incase he didn't, “Ryan, let go of Katie.”

He upped the volume of his sigh to be louder than mine, just to be the pain-in-the-butt he is and then said fine. We spent fifteen minutes of Katie talking about whatever she was talking about, I’m not really sure cause I spaced out, Ryan giving me a minute fill in about his life, and me telling them about a first official day here, leaving out everything about meeting One Direction, almost kissing Harry, grinding on Zayn, almost kissing Louis, and having Niall spend the night on my couch, of course. We spent a few more minutes saying goodbye, wishes to see each other soon, and etc.

After we hung up I walked around taking in the surroundings and letting the cold air move through my hair. I headed back up to my flat and closed the door silently, this time remembering to turn my ringer down. I tiptoes across my room into the bathroom to change, wash my face, and brush my hair. As I re-entered my bedroom I noticed Niall moving around on the couch but didn’t make much of it; I figured that it was natural for him to move in his sleep. I crawled into my bed wrapping the covers around my body and moved into a comfortable position. After a few minutes of just laying there I saw a figure walk across my room and over to my bed. I quickly remembered that Niall was sleeping at my place and I asked him if he was okay in my half asleep voice. Instead of replying he put his pillow beside mine and laid down beside me.

"Um, Niall! What are you doing," was all I could think of to say.

“I’m going to sleep.”

“In my bed?”

“Yeah, the couch is too uncomfortable.” His voice was groggy. I understood that excuse, none of the furniture was very uncomfortable. It was obvious whoever was renting this place out didn’t have the highest standards for comfort.

“Niall, this is my bed,” I said in a tone showing that I was slightly annoyed.

“Zoe,” he said the in the same tone, “I’m sleeping in your bed tonight, with you.” The last part he added emphasis to by pulling me closer to him and not letting me go.  Instead of arguing I just sighed and got comfortable.

*Niall’s POV*

I opened my eyes and found myself in an unfamiliar bed in an unfamiliar room. Every time I blinked my head throbbed. I then realized I had my arm wrapped around a warm girl, with long brown hair. Zoe. A smile immediately spread across my face as I realized that I got to spend the night with the one girl that the other four wished they were with. I decided to take advantage of this moment by snuggling myself closer to her. She  moved her body closer to mine. I sat up a little bit and kissed her on the head, marvelling at her stunning beauty. I have never seen anyone look so peaceful before. Just then her eyes fluttered open, and she immediately became confused at the sight of me lying next to her, my arms around her.

“Wha--what are you doing?” she asked me. Before giving me time to answer, she pushed me away and pretty much jumped off the bed.

“I think you let me sleep in here with you last night, remember?” I told her.

“Yes but what are you doing with your arm around me? And why did you kiss me?” I was surprised at her reaction. I thought we had a connection and seeing her freak out about me kissing her was unexpected.

“What can I say? I’m a cuddler.” I said with a grin. Her look of confusion and anger switched to one of happiness as she laughed at me.

“I guess I can forgive you then.” she smiled. It’s funny how her mood can become so happy so fast. I loved that about her. “Since you remember me allowing you to sleep in here last night, do you remember getting drunk and screaming at me and the limo driver to get you Nando’s?”

I honestly had no clue what she was talking about. “Umm. No.” I laughed and she smiled. “I could go for some Nando’s right now, though.”

She laughed again. I love her laugh. “Well how about I take you back to your place first? The other guys are a little mad at you,  since you got wasted and then got to come home with me. You might want to sort things out with them first.” She said, and I agreed. “We can get Nando’s after, though.”

“That would be--” I was interrupted by her phone, plugged in on the bedside table, that started to buzz. She unplugged her phone, picked it up, and answered it. She didn’t seem to recognize the number.

“Hello?...Yes, this is she...Oh really? I’ve been waiting for your call...Today at noon?...I’ll be there...Thank you. See you soon.” she smiled and then hung up. I looked at her questionably. “That was the manager at the store I’m going to be working at. I have an interview today at noon.” I asked her what store she was applying for. “Victoria’s Secret.” she said, shyly. “Anyway, I’m going to go get ready. You can just chill in the living room and watch TV if you want.” I nodded and left the room.
