10. Chapter 10

After deciding to wear my black sleeveless top, floral pencil skirt, with black heels I headed back into the bathroom deciding to change in there instead of risking the same incident that happened with Harry to happen with Niall. “Yes, a large supreme pizza. Tha- Oh wait! Can I get some breadsticks with that?” I looked at the radio’s clock that flashed a quarter after ten. I shook my head at my reflection, put on a coat of mascara along with a quick brush of eye shadow and headed out.

“Niall,” I said looking at him questionably.

“What’s up,” he asked and looked up. “Whoa... Zoe you look amazing.”

“Thank you,” I said bashfully while I looked at the floor to attempt and hide my rosy red cheeks.

“Um, did you want to ask me something?”

“Oh yes! Did you seriously order a pizza at 10:30 in the morning?”

“Oh, uh, um, yeah. I’m hungry and I figured we wouldn't go get food until around one this afternoon. I got a large so you can have some if you want!”

“Pizza? For breakfast? That will be a first.” He did not reply just laughed at my comment while shaking his head as if it was absurd that I never had it for breakfast before.”So, did you call the others yet?”

“No,” he paused as if trying to recall why he had to, “I got distracted by the pizza. Sorry.” His apology sounded, and looked, sincere.

“It’s okay,” I told him while walking over to sit next to him.

“I’ll call Liam right now so he can tell the others, out of the five of us he is the most responsible.” I laughed, probably more than necessary, at the last part. He, once again, laughed at me and shook his head as if questioning my sanity.

“Hey!.... Sor-” Niall was cut off by a knock on the door. He didn’t even bother telling Liam that he would be back he just dropped his phone on the couch and ran to the door. After paying he sat back down and began to stuff his face. I picked up his phone figuring it would be easier on us all if I just talked to Liam.

“Hey! It’s Zoe.”

“Oh, um, hi Zoe. Where’s Niall?’

“He ordered a pizza and it just arrived so he is currently eating.”

He laughed as if I had made the funniest joke in the world. “Do you know when Niall will be coming back home?” he asked still chuckling.

“Maybe around two or so. I have an interview at noon and then I promised Niall that we could go get Nando’s.” I looked over the the blond Irish boy sitting on my couch and saw that he was already halfway through the pizza. “One second,” I told Liam.

“Okay.”

“Niall! Save me a piece! You can’t just stay at my flat, order a pizza, and then eat it all,” I said jokingly scolding him.

“Oh, I figured you didn't want any,” he said with the pizza still in his mouth, which was not the most attractive thing to see.

“So, I was thinking,” I heard Liam say on the other end of the phone, “that since Harry and Niall have been able to get one-on-one time with you that I should too. Unless you don't want to! I completely understand if you don’t.” Why was he being so insecure like that? He was an amazing guy and I would be lucky to be in his company.

“Of course I do! I’m up for anything. I’ll just have to come back to my place after we go to Nando’s and change, I am not walking around in this outfit all day,” I said gesturing to myself as if he was in the room.

“Okay, cool! I’ll give you a ride to your place after we go to Nando’s and then we can go out. I mean, not like go out but, you know, go outside or go somewhere. I mean, not that I don't want to go out with you! Um, no, uh,” he stuttered after his little twenty second rant.

“I know what you mean,” I attempted to say in between giggles. Niall looked up and I saw what looked like annoyance in his eyes. “Um, I gotta go finish getting ready. I’ll see you guys at Nando’s.” While going to hit the end button I heard him say goodbye faintly.

“What was so funny,” Niall asked once I hung up.

“Liam was just stuttering a lot,” I said heading over to the couch to eat my breakfast pizza. He didn’t reply, he just went back to eating his fifth piece and neither of us said a word for the next few minutes.

I ended up breaking the silence by turning the “telly”, as they called it, and changed it to the local news channel, figuring that if I was going to live here that I needed to stay up to date on the current events. “The rest of the family made it out safely and the father is suspected to make a full recovery only suffering from a minor burn to the arm.” Lucky people, I thought, and watch the picture change from one of a completely burned down house to one of the news anchors.

“Wow, it’s truly amazing how lucky so many people are. Now onto the latest ‘celebrity’ news,” the women named Jennifer Nicholson said exaggerating the word celebrity.

“I don’t want to watch this,” Niall said, his voice thick with annoyance. He tried grabbing the remote but I pulled it away.

“No! I want to watch this! If you don’t then you can leave, but this is my tv so I control what we watch,” I protested.

“Fine,” was all he said before going back to dead silence.

“U.K.’s biggest boyband was spotted last night at the club, but this time with an extra group member.” There was no way that they meant me as the sixth. Sure enough pictures of me with all the boys flashed across the screen. “This brown haired cutie was spotted with not one, or two of the members but with all five.” I didn’t hide the shock on my face, this lady was almost trying to make it seem like I was some wannabe slut or something. “First, she was spotted walking in, holding hands, with Harry. She eventually moved to Liam, then dancing with Zayn, a romantic view of the town on the roof of the building with Louis, to catching a limo ride with Niall. Neither one of them have been seen since. Coincidence?” I watched Niall’s expression from the corner of my eye as he saw the pictures of me with the other appear. “Two questions are running through everyone’s head right now. One, who is this girl, and two, which boy is she dating. More news and photos on the subject have been posted on our website and you can now access us on your smartphone simply by downloading the app. Now to you Ro-.”

I didn’t move. I just stared at the black screen, amazed by what I had just seen. “Zoe,” Niall asked, concerned. After about thirty seconds of no reply he grabbed my hand. “Zoe, it’s no big deal, it’s just the media, making something out of nothing. Zoe?” He waved his hand in front of my face.

“Yeah,” was all I could manage to get out.

“Come on, you need to snap out of this. You have an interview in forty minutes! We need to leave now and get you there so you get this job.” He pulled me up and lead me towards the door.

“Wait, my purse.” I headed towards the dresser, grabbed my purse, checked for everything I needed and then headed back over towards Niall. “Wait, Niall, you don’t have a car how are we going to get there?”

“You have your rental,” he reminded me.

“Oh yeah! Wait let me just grab the keys to it,” I said as I headed back inside.

“Hurry up! You’re going to be late!”

“I am! See, I’m ready.”

“Great lets go.”

He headed down the stairs while I locked the door. I walked down, stepped outside and looked around trying to find him. “Niall! Where did you go? Niall?” I felt hands cover my eyes and started to scream before my mouth was covered, by another person, too.

“Guess who,” I heard the stranger behind me say, obviously trying to make their voice lower. I tried to scream but the hand wouldn’t move so I began kicking and swinging my arms. I made contact with someone, I wasn’t sure who, but I didn’t stop.

I felt whoever was covering my mouth move his hand and I started to scream. “Louis! Let. Her. Go!”

“He-,” I stopped in the middle of one of my many cries for help once I processed what the voice said, and then who’s it was.”Harry?”

“Nope, I’m not Harry,” said the voice behind me that I knew was Louis now.

“Um, Liam?”

“No.”

“Come on Zayn stop screwing with me,” I said trying to be as serious as possible.

“It’s not Zayn.”

“Niall?”

“Nope.”

“Um, I don’t know. Give me a hint.”

“I’m really sexy.”

“But I already said all the sexy people I know,” I said in a whiny voice. At this comment Louis moved his hands away from my eyes and took a step back.

I turned around and saw him pouting with his arms crossed in front of his chest, bottom lip sticking out. I laughed and said, “I’m sorry,” but he just shook his head. I couldn’t tell if he was really hurt or if he was just pretending, so I decided to do something risky. I gave him a hug, with my arms around his neck, and he uncrossed his arms and put them around me.

“I forgi-” Louis began but then I interrupted him by kissing him. It was a quick, soft kiss on the cheek, and as soon as I pulled my lips away his cheeks turned red. “Woah,” he said. “I wasn’t expecting that.”

I laughed and turned around. I had completely forgotten that the other boys were with us. They all looked uncomfortable, to say the least; Niall looked awkward, Harry looked angry, Liam looked sad, and Zayn looked upset. Louis looked like he was in heaven, though. “Ummm...I guess I should get to my interview now?” I said, awkwardly. “So, I’ll see you guys afterwards?”

“Actually,” this was Liam’s voice. “We were planning on just driving you. We have a big van that’ll fit all of us.”

“Oh,” I said, a little surprised. “That’ll work.” I agreed, with a nod. We walked to the parking lot together, with no one really talking. Although I had never seen their van before, I automatically knew which vehicle was theirs; no one else in England would drive an 8-seater van. We approached the van when I asked, “So, who’s driving?”

“I’m not.” Liam said. “I can’t drive.” he said with a laugh.

“I’ll drive.” Zayn said. I said that was fine.

“Shot gun,” screamed Louis behind me.

“Actually,” Zayn began. “Zoe should sit next to me so that she can see how to get to the Victoria’s Secret without using the GPS on her phone and getting into a car crash.” I laughed. “Also, it would be easiest if she sat in front so that she could easily hop out when we arrive.” Louis, although reluctant, agreed.

I got in the passenger’s seat next to Zayn while the rest of the boys filed in the back seat. Zayn started the car, and turned on the radio. “Heart Attack” by Demi Lovato began playing out of the speakers. I’m not much of a Demi Lovato fan, so I didn’t really sing along. After the song was over, the DJ announced a contest to win concert tickets to some band I’d never heard of. Then, he said, “Up next is Live While We’re Young by One Direction.

“Ugh,” said Zayn. “I’m so sick of hearing our songs all the time.” he reached his hand out to shut off the radio, but I stopped him.

“I love this song.” I said, and Zayn sighed and said he won’t turn it off.

“You should hear her sing it,” Harry said joining into the conversation.

I scoffed and turned around in my seat to face him. “Shut up.”

As the first verse of the song ended and the chorus began, all 5 boys began to sing along. My 16 year old self would have died; to have all 5 members of One Direction nonchalantly singing their song for me would have been a dream come true. But I’m more mature now...maybe.

They continued singing throughout the song, and by the time the second chorus came on, I started to sing along, without really thinking about it. I continued singing for a little while, until I noticed that the rest of them had stopped singing and were suppressing their laughs.

“Hey!!” I said. “You guys stopped singing!” Just then all of the boys started laughing. Harry seemed to be laughing the hardest, so I shot him a death glare. He didn’t seem to notice, and I felt my cheeks turn pink. Fortunately, the song had ended and now some rap song I had never heard before started playing.

Zayn said that we would be at the Victoria’s Secret soon. Until we arrived, we all just made small talk. A couple minutes later, we pulled up to the store. A large poster of a model in black lingerie was pasted on the outside wall of the store.

“Damn,” said Harry. “She’s HOT!” he emphasized the word “hot”.

“C’mon, Harry,” I began. “Try and keep it in your pants, please.” The boys laughed and Harry just scoffed.

“Actually, Harry, I’m surprised,” Louis cut in. “Usually you don’t go for them unless they’re covered in wrinkles.” Everyone, except Harry of course, practically died of laughter. Niall gave Louis a high five. Harry just shook his head and crossed his arms.

“Well,” I began after the laughter had died down. “I got to get to this interview so I’ll see you guys later. Are you going to hang out around here or are you going to come pick me up, or...?”

Liam said, “Don’t worry, we’ll be here.” I smiled, said okay and goodbye, and began walking to the entrance of the store. I was confident about this interview; I was the star employee back in Greensboro, and the manager of this store knows that.

I knocked on the door I was directed towards and a lady, who I was assuming was the manager, opened the door. “Hi! You must be Zoe, correct? Please, come in, sit down. This shouldn’t take long at all.”
