It All Started With A Brownie

Actually, it starts with two.
Susie gets up one morning and makes a load of brownies. 250, in fact. She and her friends don't know what to do with them so they decide to sell them - outside their apartment. A guy comes along, hood up, blue eyes and soft blonde hair. He keeps his face hidden, but when Susie sees him properly, it's Niall Horan, her celebrity crush. Can Susie keep her secret hidden from her friends, or will the truth come out?

6. Exam

Susie’s POV

Over the next few days, I was busy at Uni, preparing for my final exam before we broke up for summer the next week. I already knew that I didn’t need to revise, seeing as I got A*’s and A’s in my GCSE’s and A levels without any revision, but I still looked over my notes to keep my teachers happy.

My chemistry degree was tomorrow, so I decided to stop looking at clothes on my black iPad mini, and concentrate on atoms and bonding instead.

I couldn’t stop thinking about One Direction coming to my party. When we were alone, Annabel, Zara and I created fantasies about them. Zara had decided she liked Zayn and Annabel admitted that Louis was hot, but I reminded them that both of those guys had girlfriends, which they moaned about quite a few times.

I wasn’t about to tell them, but I was secretly glad that Niall was a single pringle and 'their guys' weren't. But maybe Zayn and Louis would decide that they prefer Annabel and Zara to their normal girlfriends and decide to date them instead. Maybe…

Glancing around my messy bedroom, I took my time to look individually at all the ornaments placed in random places. Most were from Zara and Liv, Zara's being expensive hand lotions and perfumes from Dubai and Liv's being collectors items that she'd bring back from China every year. China to Liv was like her second home. She was fluent in Mandarin, and the 6 year apprenticeship that she was at used this to their advantage, sending her off around the world on first class trips. So far she had been to America, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand. But China was her favourite and some friends invited to my party next week were people she had met over there and whom I'd spoken to on Skype.

The other few things littered around my room were Annabel's drawings of Tyler Oakley and music sheets from my elder sister, Molly, asking me to get my musical friends to check them over. The sun shone through my window, creating rays across my cream coloured carpet, and I was grateful that I chose this room when we all moved here last year. My room was the only one that got the sun all day long and the slanting ceiling gave a nice shape to it as well.

I looked down at my notes again and rolled my eyes. This stuff was easy, and I knew everything. There was no need to revise, so I shut the blinds, had a quick shower and fell asleep under my soft, white covers.

**

The next day I got up extremely early to wash my hair again; put on makeup and make everyone in the apartment an English breakfast. After doing this, I put the plates in the oven to keep the food warm until they woke up, and sat down to eat by myself.

I licked the egg off my fork and thought to myself. Niall would have liked this. I’d better make sure there were loads of homemade goodies at the party, or else he'd get hungry and grumpy. It was good that I was hiring out a hall for the night, I didn’t want people getting off with guys and ending up sleeping in the bedrooms of the apartment or something.

Just then, I got a call from a number I didn’t recognise. My heart sped up, thinking it was one of the boy’s, so I picked it up on the fifth ring, not wanting to look too desperate.

“Hello?”

“Hi, is this Susie Liddell?” A voice that definitely wasn’t a member of One Direction appeared over the phone, but he sounded a little familiar.

“Yes, it is. Who’s calling?”

“Hi Susie. I’m David. You booked the hall in Henley.”

“Oh, yes. I remember now.” Yeah, I did, but why was he calling? Did he want an invite to the party as well?

“Well, I’m really sorry to inform you that the hall has been double booked so we cannot accommodate your party.” He told me. No invite request then.

No hall meant no party. Damn.

“Right..."

“Sorry! But we will send you your money back.” David hung up and I slammed down the phone.

Sure, they were gonna send my money back, but they weren’t gonna send back my £150 deposit!!!

Oh, I was so fuming right now. This wasn’t fair!

Storming into Zara’s room, I found her half asleep. So I shook her a little too harshly for her skinny frame and she sat bolt upright. “What? What happened? Is something wrong?”

“Yes, something is definitely wrong! I’m gonna have to cancel the party. The hall was double booked and they won’t let me have my party there. Nobody else is gonna take me, it’s way too short notice. Damn, I am so mad! One Direction were going to come and everything!" I ranted on at Zara before she held up her hands in surrender.

"I have a solution."

"Oh?" I looked at her slightly sceptically.

"My parents are away next week in Dubai for their anniversary. I'll see if they'll let us borrow the house for your party. Don't worry, Susie. I know this is important to you."

I grinned and thrashed around on the bed, pausing suddenly, "But what if they say no?"

Zara shrugged, "They won't. They owe me one for making me pay for all my Uni fees and car insurance for the last two years."

My smile grew even wider and I hugged her gratefully, looking down at my wrist as I did so. I noticed the time and almost screamed. I should be at the University by now! Zara got the hint and helped collect up all the revision books and notes I was picking at yesterday. I ran down the four flights of stairs, not bothering to wait for the lift, and unlocked the SUV parked on the road.

I hoped in and sped off to the University. The nerves were really beginning to show now. My palms were sweating and my breathing was getting faster and faster.

Then I remembered Niall and calmed a little, ending up not walking into the exam as if I was wobbling about on six inch high heels.

XXXXX

Yeah, I know, it's pretty rubbish but it will get better, I promise ;)
