Ella is the quiet girl at school. She has no friends- apart from the annoying Star, who won't leave her alone for a second. But suddenly, when the pair find themselves in a world of Queens, magic and mystery, they figure that this is the time to work together...

10. The Battle Goes On

I was surrounded by fire- deep red. I thought it was over, so I wiped my eyes. I took a deep breath; at least Erikkah, the boys and Luciana were okay. But Star?

Then, as if on cue, he tapped me on the shoulder, holding on to a long piece of rope.

"Hold on, Ellz," He smiled. "I always come up trumps, don't I?"

I sighed. "Star, it's not the-"

"Don't I?"

"Fine, YES!" I snapped. I grabbed on to him with one hand, holding the rope with the other. "Now let's go! Come on, Star!" We pushed off with our feet and zoomed down. We were only just dodging fire, and I screamed. Star grinned, as if it was some ride at an amusement park. I could see everything, including Erikkah and everyone darting away. My eyes filled up, and I couldn't help feeling that this was all my fault. We landed on the burnt grass and legged it. I found myself grabbing Star's hand as we ran- what? I needed SOMETHING to hold! We were moving at the speed of a car, literally. We weren't really sure where we were going, but our feet were pounding on the ground.

"Nice day for a picnic!" Star joked.

"Not the time, Star," I said, but I couldn't stop myself from smiling. I stopped in a second, though- a huge, giant Tyde shot across the way, just in front of us, and we only just managed to dodge it.

"This is so dodgy," Star declared as we ran. "Though, it's just like a normal night outside our flat. Seriously; it's totally rough. There are fires and fights all the time- hang on! I have an idea!" He darted over to a tree, where he said he'd left his skateboard earlier. "This should make us go a bit faster!" He hopped on, and I squeezed on too, and we skateboard-ed away. Star was right- we DID go quicker. It was as if we had landed in some kind of 3-D war video game, the type that Star himself actually played.

Luciana came running over, looking worried.

"Ella," she said, "I need you to do something for me, as a Maiden,"

"What, your majesty?" I asked, slowing down the skateboard.

"I-the whole reason that this battle is going on is because there are two people who want to rule. But I remember my father telling me that, when the leader dies, everything will stop, and a whole new era will begin-"

"No way!" I gasped. "Luciana, I'm not killing you!"

"You don't have to. Just use your powers. Then people, like Erikkah and her family, will be able to live peacefully. Nathaniel's era will end. I will probably be killed anyway, with this battle- and I want to die peacefully and happily. The whole of Flamisia will be perfect again. No more fire, no more harm, nothing.  And, you two will get to go home. Please," I felt sick. How could I kill a queen, even if she asked me to? But I had to, right? Even Star signaled a 'yes'. I gave Luciana a hug, and Erikkah, who knew what was going on, walked up to us with the boys. She hugged me, saying "I know that this is most likely the last time we'll see each other. But that's okay. And about Luciana- well, somebody else will become Queen. But she WANTS you to, Ella. And you are a Luciana's Maiden; what she wants, you must do!" I hugged them all, even Robert and Eethan and Thor. I cried, and shook Luciana's hand. Then I glanced around, lifted my hand, and cast the spell. I saw a flash of light, and soon me and Star were thousands of feet up in the air. Luciana floated up with us, like a ghost.

"Thankyou!" She said, amazed. "Flamisia is all better now. Ella, you are the best Maiden ever!"

"ThankYOOOOOUUUUUUUU!" I screamed, because I was being sucked down, down, down, back into the real world, where I landed with an almighty THUMP.
