Ella is the quiet girl at school. She has no friends- apart from the annoying Star, who won't leave her alone for a second. But suddenly, when the pair find themselves in a world of Queens, magic and mystery, they figure that this is the time to work together...

5. Her Majesty

"YOUR MAJESTY!" Erikkah gasped, obviously forgetting to be quiet. The girl- who I could see was a teenager- pulled her brown hair out of her eyes, carefully shutting the door.

"Please, silence," she said. "I am here- so long as you and your family don't mind- to stay for a short period of time. The Nethanians are coming for me- my palace is under attack. They most certainly will not search for me in a family home."

"Queen Luciana!" Eethan bowed, and so did Robert. Erikkah curtsied, Thor did a bow, and Star and I stood up and did the same.

"Would you like anything?" Erikkah asked. "A bet? Tea? A meal?" Luciana shook her head.

"No, thankyou, Miss Erikkah. I do remember you- your dear children arrived at my palace months back, after you lost your husband, Rikk. But now I must stay quiet and hidden- if I do not, the kingdom will fall apart." She came and sat down next to me. "You are a beautiful young lady."

"Thankyou so very much," I replied, trying to sound cool and posh and polite. But deep down I was thrilled to bits- mum had always said that my hair was out of control, and that I was too curvy. I didn't care now, though; a PRINCESS called me beautiful!

"Most welcome," Luciana said. She rested her head on my shoulder, and I found mine resting on Star's- and I must have fallen asleep.

I woke the next morning, expecting to open my eyes and see my purple bedroom, my bedside table stacked high with drawings and paintings. But no- I woke to Erikkah and Queen Luciana sweeping up, looking out of the window.

"Silly people!" Erikkah said. "Don't they know to shut their blinds? And then they expect sympathy when bad things happen to them!"

"Now, now, Erikkah," Luciana soothed. "Calm down. Maybe those people couldn't hear? Or they were asleep? Don't judge people without knowing their story." Erikkah went back to sweeping. I stood up and stared into the mirror, fixing my hair. Luciana tilted her head.

"Come with me, Ella," she told me, "I need to make sure that you know all about this kingdom."
