I Hate That I Love You (A Jai Brooks Fanfic)

I saw him at the gym and I thought he was cute so I talked to him. Little did I know that he would become the biggest part of my life. He would always mean so much to me, even through fights, loss, and devastation. We would always find a way back to each other. And that's why I will always be in love with Jai Dominic Brooks.

3. I'm Falling for Your Eyes but They Don't Know Me Yet

I woke up on Shay's sofa. I'd realized that last night I only had a few drinks and the rest was all in my head, because I wasn't experiencing a hangover. The yellow digital clock read 8:53. That should be enough time to nicely get ready to go to the gym and talk to him, if I really hurry. After a few minutes I spotted Shay in the kitchen and thanked her for letting me stay the night. She told me that Jasmine went home not long before I woke up. Rushing from the small home, I was in walking distance from my place. It was only four blocks away.

Finally, after a seeminly long 15 minutes I was home. Just realizing I wasn't in a dress anymore, I hastily unlocked my front door and ran inside to the bathroom. My face was a mess, so I did my business and washed off all the makeup. Next, I took a quick shower without washing my hair. Surprisingly, my hair wasn't as matted as I assumed it would be and the high tight ponytail I pulled it into had some nice waves. I put on my light purple Nike Pros and my zebra striped sports bra. I looked pretty darn hot. I tied my Nike sneakers and put on my sweatshirt. Again, I drove to the gym but this time it was because I didn't want to get sweaty.

When I got to the gym, reality hit. I was going crazy just because of this cute guy I saw at the gym and he could be the biggest jerk in the world! Besides, I bet he's not even at the gym. From that moment, I tried so hard not to get my hopes up. The long, anticipating walk from where my parked car was to the door was torture. I quickly signed in and walked to the womens locker room. I put my sweatshirt and my bag in a locker, as usual. I took a deep breath and walked into the gym. That is where I saw him, and as soon as I walked in our eyes met. Trying to look away, I noticed him check me out. I did it right back. Then, I strolled away like nothing had even happened. I had butterflies all the way down to my toes. Wow. Okay, be cool. Today was Zumba Wednesday for women and girls so I walked over to that side of the gym and I felt his eyes burning into the back of me. I had my chance to say something, but I didn't.

Zumba class went by fast and most of the women in my class were either under 14 or over 45 so I was just about in the middle of all of them. While I was approaching the exit, the boy came up to me "Hi," he said sounding friendly, "I'm Jai," this time he sounded nervous. "I'm Alyssa, nice meet you," I said to him with a smile and he warmly smiled right back. "Are you from around here?" he asked me. "Yeah, I've lived here my whole life, what about you?" I responded. "Me too, I've lived here since I was little," he chuckled. We walked out of the building at the same time, together. "So, I haven't seen you at this gym before." I stated. "Yeah, I used to go to a different one but they closed down, so I started coming here the other day," he explained. "Oh, well this is my car," I said, gesturing to my white Jeep, "so, I'll see you around?" "Definitely," Jai smiled again.

I hopped into my car and tried to start it, but the engine wouldn't budge. "Ugh," I sighed. I pulled out my phone and called the towing company. "Hey Alyssa! Do you need a ride?" someone called. I turned around and saw Jai in a big black pick-up truck with all the windows rolled down. "Thanks, that would actually be great." I replied. Jai smiled right at me and I swear my heart skipped a beat. He got out of the truck and opened the door for me so I hopped in and thanked him. "So, hi," I said awkwardly. "Hey," he said looking over at me. His face was beautiful I was basically convulsing on the inside. "Um, where do you live?" he asked scratching the back of his neck. "Oh, I live on 9 Redwood Road," I answered him. "Oh, okay that's pretty close to here," Jai said as he began driving.

A few minutes passed and the silence was starting to become awkward. "So, what kind of stuff are you into, like what do you like to do?" he asked me. "I absolutely love cheerleading and I'm on an All Star team. What about you?" I asked. "That's cool, and I really like making crazy videos and fooling around with my brothers and my friends," he answered then I laughed gently. We pulled down my street and I knew this wouldn't last forever so I took my chance and pulled out a small crinkled piece of paper. As he stopped his car in my driveway I said, "Thanks for giving me a ride and here's my number," I handed him the paper, "call me sometime." I finished as a shut the car door and strutted to my door. I unlocked it and turned around to wave goodbye to Jai and he waved back while starting to drive down my street. When he was out of sight, I went into my room and fell onto my bed.

Wow, today was a good day, and it was only just beginning. I hopped into the shower and decided to take a nice long one since I didn't have anywhere to be because Wednesdays and the weekends are the days I don't have to work. When I got out of the shower, I decided to put on some baggy sweatpants and an old tee shirt from high school and watch tv with a bag of some sort of food. I haven't done this in a long time, my schedule was always so busy. My phone was sitting on my bed, exactly where I left it. Two new text messages, I saw on my screen. I got so excited to read them but then my heart sank when I realized one was just from the phone company reminding me to update my plan and the other was from my cheer coach saying that she wouldn't be at practice tomorrow. I plopped my phone onto the couch and went to go feed my fish. The fish splashed around while i sprinkled in the flakes. Ever since I was little I've always thought fish were the cutest things ever. Once I was through with watching the fish swim a little bit I went back to the couch but didn't bother checking my phone. I just tuned into Pretty Little Liars because I'd missed the most recent episode last night. Just as the show was getting to a good scary part, my phone buzzed and it scared the crap out of me so i jumped. I must have a new text so I paused the tv and checked my inbox. I could feel my heart start to beat faster while I read the message.

Unknown number: Hi Alyssa, it's Jai.

I quickly put his number into my phone as Jai with a smiley face emoji next to it. Then, I replied to his text calmly so I wouldn't seem desperate and creepy.

me: Hey, what's up?

Jai: Nothing really, I'm tired.

me: Me too. And bored.

Jai: Oh, so texting me is boring? :P

me: no :)

Jai: Aha, well I gotta go so I'll see you tomorrow? :)

me: yes :D

I am officially crying on the inside now. I obviously have a crush on Jai, so I'm hoping we can get closer and maybe become friends first.

Snapping out of my day dreams, I realized it was already 2:30pm. I decided to go to Starbucks and sit in the park, alone, to think about things. Not just to think about Jai, but everything. I put on a flowered skirt and a white tank top. Slipping my flip flops I grabbed my phone and headed out the door. The door was now locked so I walked to my car and got into my seat. I started to drive to Starbucks which was a few streets away. Once I got there, I parked in front and strolled in. I waited in line and when it was finally my turn I ordered a caramel coffee drink because I didn't care about my diet. I already have a 6 pack. I paid for my drink and walked from the coffee shop to a bench near the park. I sat down at the bench and started drinking my coffee and I thought about my life.

I remembered how I used to be shy and scared of everything, how I cried on my first day of middle school, and how my crush asked me out in 7th grade but I said no because I wanted to play hard to get. How I got a week of detentions for pushing a girl when she was being mean to my friend, how I had my heart broken for the first time when I was 14 and my guy friends were always there for me. Then, I remembered cheering for the first time in 2nd grade, and how much I loved it. Never one day would I think it would be such an important part of my life. That's when a tear rolled down my cheek. I was getting older and these were the years that I will want to remember the most.

Quickly, I wiped the tear away, trying not to make a scene in public. There were people everywhere so I got up and scurried to my car. I checked the digital clock in my car to see that it was almost 4:30pm. I went home and changed back into my comfortable clothes. Food was something I really wanted at the moment so I made myself some Campbell's chicken noodle soup. Slowly, I ate the soup and I was getting tired. When I was finished I grabbed my phone to call Jasmine.

The phone rang until she finally picked up, "Hey Jazz, do you want to sleep over at my house? I'm really bored and lonely," I laughed. "Sure, I am too. I'll be there in a few I just need to pack my things," she replied.

"Great, I'll see you soon, bye."

"Bye boo."

I am happy. Jasmine's sleeping over so I can finally tell her about Jai. I was a bit caught up in my thoughts but then I realized Jasmine would be here soon. So, I tidied up the kitchen a little and made my bed. The house was about as presentable as possible with me living in it, but I knew Jasmine wouldn't mind.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang. Thinking it was Jasmine, I ran to the door and opened it. "Hi," he said. "Hi Jai," I said, probably sounding surprised to see him. "You left this in my car," he said, holding up my sweatshirt, "and I just had to come and give it back to you." he smiled. "Oh, thanks so much!" I said to Jai cheerily. He handed me the sweatshirt and I took it, our hands briskly touching. "See you later," he said to me and he started to walk towards his truck. "Bye Jai!" I called while waving him goodbye. He was the last person I expected to see here. I didn't look very presentable I realized when he was gone. My hair was down neatly around my face, but I was wearing some baggy "boyfriend" sweatpants from Pink and an old Abercrombie tee shirt. He looked so adorable in his little beanie.

I heard a knocking at my door and this time I was sure it was Jasmine. The door swung open without me even having to get it. "I'm here!" Jasmine yelled. "I can see that," I laughed. "Guess what?" she asked. "What?" I suspiciously questioned. "I brought food!" she held up a bag of popcorn. "Nice," I responded happily. "Come on, let's watch a movie," I said while leading her over to the couch. "How about Mean Girls?" Jasmine suggested. "Awesome!" I told her while getting the dvd and placing it in the movie player.

During the beginning of the movie me and Jasmine were cracking up. Then it moved on to the part where Regina is kissing her ex-boyfriend aka Cady's crush. Jasmine paused the movie and asked me a question that shocked me a little, "If you were seeing anyone, you would tell me right? Shay too?" "What kind of question even is that? Of course I would tell you guys!" I answered. "Good, but is there anyone you're into?" she asked and this question made me a little nervous but I answered, "Well I was at the gym and I met this guy, his name is Jai"...
