The Queen and I

Helena is one of Queen Elizabeth I's servants . She has a completely ordinary life, a simple girl working hard and earning her keep for her endlessly long family back at home. Everything has a routine for her and is completely orderly, just how she likes it but when she is accused of a life threatening crime, here whole world turns upside down.

2. Chapter 2

The warm liquid trickled down my coarse throat. Beth and I sat underneath our  favorite oak tree which had long, protecting arms to 'keep us safe from harm' we used to say. It has just enough shade so it's cool but it lets in just enough sunlight to have that wonderful feeling of nature spread all down your spine. For that one moment in time we weren't servants or enemies or even friends. We were just to people, sitting, relaxing, thinking our own thoughts, not following the cruel leadership of time. But that moment ended all to soon when we saw the familiar face appear, scrunched into absolute fury.

"We certainly will get a beating for this, for she looks as if she is on fire!" muttered Beth.

"That certainly will be so, my dear child, unless we can out run her..." I grinned over at her mischievously

"Alright, where have you put my friend Helena? This new person here before me seems to want to RUN away from the routine, what have you done with my real friend?"

"No time for silly questions like that, for our ears will be cauliflowers by the time Miss. Tune is done with us if we don't go NOW!"

We jumped up, dumping the remaining mint tea all over the grass. I started using my legs, feeling the spring breeze through my hair, smelling the perfumes of the rolling hills around us, flying through the castle grounds like birds. I heard Miss. Tune hollering for us swearing she will "Cook us for dinner if we don't get our no good behinds back right then!" I ignored her, I ignored my self consciousness screaming to get back, I ignored the fact that I would probably be fired after this I just closed my eyes, flying, flying, flying...... THUMP!

The world was topsy turvy and I felt as though I had been shot right in through the head for the pounding pain was nearly unbearable. I felt the coarse gravel beneath my fingers and right when I thought my situation couldn't get any worse, I opened my eyes. A tuft of brown curls draped over me and I realized there was an outstretched hand coming towards my own. 'I must be hallucinating,' I thought but then piercing blue eyes reassured me that this was all to real. I had crashed into Sir Cole at full speed and noticing the now slightly askew uniform and messy hairdo, I realized he had also fallen, flat on his face. "Sir.... I.... Uhhh...." I stuttered. The wort scenarios of consequences to my actions played around in my head, being fired, going out of Windsor being a shamed woman, being executed...  Of course I knew I wasn't going to be executed but at the moment, it certainly felt like my whole world was ending right there and then. Tearing myself from my thoughts (I usually day dream quite a bit) I almost fell back again when I heard him laughing. His grin stretched all the way to the tips of his eyes and his little dimples revealed themselves at the side of his mouth. His laughter calming down a bit now, he said, still smiling "And to whom do I owe this exciting visit to?"

"Uhhh.. my name is Helena if that is what you wish to know..." I blurted, forgetting the number one rule of never talking to a status of royalty, just to get on with what they asked.

"Well Helena, it is an absolute pleasure, and to be honest," he whispered, "you saved me from quite a boring tour of the castle."

"Yes, well, ummm, I really must be on my way, uhhh, good day sir." As I turned my back and broke into a swift walk, I heard him say, "I would quite like to see you again, Mademoiselle!" Completely despite myself, I smiled.
