3. Chapter 2

MiKayla fell asleep in the window for a few hours. Soon enough though the sun was streaming in and she was being woken up. She stared out seeing vampires walking around the society.

MiKayla lived in a society located in what use to be known as Virginia. The grounds she lived in use to be a college, a place for higher learning, but now was home to roughly six hundred vampires. The next closest vampire society was in what use to be New York and it was one of the largest in the Americas. Housing over two thousand vampires through what was once called New York City.

Not many vampire societies were on the east coast anymore. The President of the East, John Learon, made sure that vampires were made out to be vermin. The vampires followed all the new rules that John Learon passed in 2065 when he became President of the East. All rules were suppose to be approved by the Goddess, Maia, but John Learon was one of those humans who thought he was invincible.

MiKayla began getting ready for school. One more year of school before she started her profession in the society and if she continued to excel in school she would be put up for the same position that her father held. MiKayla wanted this more than anything else in the world so she could meet a human.

She didn't understand her fascination with humans but she felt like she needed to meet one. She was determined she would meet one even if she had to break the law to meet one.

Finally MiKayla was ready for school and actually going to be early.

"Mom, I'm leaving!" she yelled as she slipped out the front door before her mother could even say anything to her. She was determined to talk to Carly before she went to school. She just had to.

With only twenty minutes before she had to get to school MiKayla prayed that Carly would be awake.

MiKayla knocked hard on the door determined that Carly would answer the door then her questions. After a few moments there was no answer so she knocked again.

"C'mon," she mumbled and danced of the balls of her feet. MiKayla was feeling nervous because her parents had forbid her to talk to Carly because according to them Carly was just gossip and lies.

MiKayla finally accepted defeat and went to turn away from the door when she heard it open.

"MiKayla Rodriguez! Why are you at my door this early in the morn'?" Carly said sounding extra chipper.

"I need to talk to you, can I come in?"

"Sure!" Carly probably never had visitors. Most vamps in the society ignored her as much as possible. She was always ready to stop a vamp and tell them her latest story.

The craziest story that Carly had come up with was that John Learon was really a vamp leading the human. She believed he was planning a revolt with the New York society.

MiKayla began to rethink her plan to talk to Carly. Was this really the best idea? Carly would probably just lie to keep MiKayla here.

"Want some blood?" Carly asked MiKayla.

MiKayla bit her lip but continued to shake her head then Carly slapped herself in the face.

"Oh! I'm so sorry. I forgot you are not eighteen yet so you can only get the illegal drop on your birthday."

Another law that John Learon passed was that vamps born into the society could not have blood before they were eighteen. Her father believed he was trying to see how long they could survive without blood. The truth is all they needed was one drop a year to survive but it didn't make them strong like they should be. One drop kept them alive not healthy.

So every year on their birthday they received one drop of human blood from their parents supply. An adult vamp could have a cup a month unless they could afford more. It all depended on your status though. MiKayla's parents always had a pint a month but lately their parents were stocking up on the blood supply. And she knew better than to ask why they were doing this.

"So, what can I do for ya today?" Carly asked taking MiKayla back to the situation at hand.

"I was wondering how long you've been at this society. I know you moved here, but how long ago?"

Carly gave MiKayla a long, strange look then whipped her head back laughing.

"So silly. I came here when you were about six MiKayla."

"Oh," MiKayla felt pain because now she would never know.

Carly began staring at MiKayla like she was insane. "Why are you asking me this now? Don't you usually ignore me when you see me coming?"

She had noticed MiKayla and the entire Rodriguez family avoiding her on purpose. This could turn out really bad for MiKayla for being a younger vamp. Plus being as MiKayla was born not turned that automatically made her weaker.

"I just wanted to know if you knew any stories about twins in the human society when I was four?" MiKayla bit her lip wondering if maybe she should just run for it. She believed she could get out of Carly's tiny apartment in sight of other vamps that would protect her if Carly tried to hurt her.

MiKayla regretted the decision to come talk to Carly more and more by the second.

Carly began running her hands with her long, painted on pink nails through her ridiculously long, blonde hair. Carly looked like a vamp who had gone mad. Her eyes were glazing over and MiKayla couldn't tell if she should run or help Carly. She looked as if she was in pain.

"I think you need to go," Carly said.

"Yeah, actually I do," MiKayla stood up quickly. "I'm going to be late for school, bye Carly."

Carly let out a snarl as MiKayla shut the door. What in the world had just happened in there?
