REVISING AND EDITING Werewolves Aren't Real...Duh (1st book of the Brotherly Rivals series)

Hi. My name is Rain. I know... weird name right? Well, that's my name. Another interesting fact about me is that I'm an orphan. My parents got killed by a mugger when I was 2. I don't remember much about them, but I do remember my sister. She gave me to the orphanage after mom and dad died. She's probably dead. Also, I'm a cutter. I don't particularly enjoy it, but it makes me feel like... I have control. I don't have control at the orphanage. I'm just one of the 50 kids who have to live in this place. They don't give a damn about any of us. I'm turning 15 tomorrow, but they don't care. So I'm running away.
*That's what Rain thought. Little did she know her life was about to change forever.

2. Orphanage

Izzy's p.o.v.

It's Rain. I can't believe it, I haven't seen her since she was 2. I wonder if she still remembers me. She looked at me, then smiled really big and threw herself at me.

"SISSY!!!!!!! I thought you were DEAD!!" I'm so glad you're okay," She screamed.

"Hey, don't I get a hug?" A voice said from behind me.

"MALCOLM!!!!" She screeched at the top of her lungs.

She ran into his arms and he lifted her and spun her in a circle. I heard a growl coming from the stairs. Rider, to-be-alpha of WaterRush pack came down to stairs, growling at Rain and Malcolm. I stepped in front of them and growled right back. He looked at me, then at my sister.

"Rain... who are they?" He asked, defience in his voice.

She looked up at him and her expression changed. It softened a little. The realization hit me like a ton of brkcks.

"Rider," she said softly, "This is my family. My sister, Isabelle Aries, and my best friend, Malcolm Walker."

He looked at Malcolm and I, looked at Rain, and bowed his head.

"I apologize. Any family or friends of Rain's are friends of mine. I welcome the both of you into my home," I looked at Rain and raised my eyebrows. She gave me a goofy smile and turned back to Rider.

Rain's p.o.v.

That was soooooo cute.

"Hey, can I talk to you all upstairs?" I motioned toward the stairs.

"Sure," they all said in unison.

Rider grabbed my hand and led us back up to the room I was just in. I sat on the bed and Rider sat right next to me. Izzy and Malcolm sat in the chairs by the bed. I told them all about the orphanage. How I was treated like nothing, became a cutter, and was forced to do dirty work. Rider growled softly throughout the whole story.

"That's it, I say we head back there and teach them a lesson for messing with Rain," Malcolm said, standing and cracking his knuckles.

"I couldn't agree more" Rider growled, putting him arm around me. I shrugged him off and motioned for Izzy to follow me. When we got outside the room, I cut straight to the case.

"What's up with Rider. He said something about mates, but I don't know what that me-"

"I KNEW IT!!!" Izzy squealed.

"Knew what, exactly?" She explained everything there was to know about werewolves, including mates.

"So I'm like, automatically supposed to be with Rider?" I asked, deciding to just roll with this for now.

My life's already fucked up, so what's the worst that could happen? Plus, I've read werewolf stories since I was a little kid, so this is probably just a dream that I'll wake up from soon.

"Not necessarily. I mean, you co-" She couldn't finish, because Malcolm and Rider picked that moment to come out of the room.

"Enough talk, time for action," Rider said, grabbing my hand while Malcolm grabbed Izzy's.

Of course, I pulled away. I was still a little uncomfortable about the kiss. I followed them all outside. Rider and Malcolm went behind trees, and came out a minute later as wolves, carrying their clothes in their mouths. I gasped.

"Still weird, isn't it?" Izzy asked, looking at me, clearly amused.

"It's not funny!! If you didn't know werewolves existed, you'd be shocked too," I said, my voice barely a whisper.

"Well, you'll believe it when you phase for the first time," she said with a shrug.

"WHAT?!? I'M TURNING INTO A FREAKING WOLF!!!!!" At that moment, Rider jumped on me and knocked me over.

"NOT AGAIN!!!" I shouted, laughing.

He was like a huge dog. I started scratching behind his ear and he licked me.

"Ok, ok, lets go," I said, pushing him away lightly.

Rider sat up and nudged me. He looked as if he expected something

"Get on his back," Izzy said, and she had already got on Malcolm's back.

I looked at her in shock, and she just gestured for me to stop asking questions and get on. I climbed on Rider and held onto his fur. He yelped in satisfaction and ran into the forest with Malcolm and Izzy right behind us. I shouted directions to get to the orphanage. When we got there, I jumped off his back and he and Malcolm went back behind the trees. 5 minutes later, they came out fully dressed, both with a fire in their eyes. They walked into the orphanage ahead of me and Izzy. You could tell they weren't playing around.

"OKAY, WHO RUNS THIS PLACE?! " Rider said intimidating voice. It was pretty hot...WHAT AM I THINKING!?!??!

"I'm the owner of this wonderful orphanage."

Rider's p.o.v.

I was about to kill whoever hurt my Rain. A man came out of an office. I heard Rain growl loudly. I've never heard her growl before. It was sexy. In a 'she's gonna kill me' kinda way. She stepped in front of me and walked right up to the man.

"Ian," She said quietly.

"It's Mr. Daniels to you you little slut," He snarled, and raised his hand, about to hit her, when I grabbed his hand and twisted. Hard. He screamed and dropped to his knees. Rain slapped him and grabbed his hair.

"Don't touch me ever again," she snarled at him.

He whimpered and nodded. This is so much fun.

"Follow me." She said, then headed up a flight of stairs.

We followed and she led us up to a room. She opened the door and walked in. I could tell it used to be her room because I could smell it. I could smell her. I plopped face first into the bed and inhaled deeply. Her scent was everywhere, and it smelt soooooo good.

"Get up, we aren't here for a nap. I have to get something," I looked up to see her grab a swichblade from on top of a peice of paper. I went and grabbed the piece of paper and read it.

"IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY!!!!!" I screamed at her.

"WHAT!?!? IT IS!!!!!!!???????" Malcolm and Isabelle screamed.

"Yea...what's the big deal? Okay, lets go," she said nonchalantly.

She walked out of the room and back down the stairs. I ran after her and found her and Ian in his office. He hit her in the face with the hand that wasn't almost broken. She growled and lunged. He caught her under the chin and she fell back.

He stood over her with a whip and laughed maniacally. I could see red. No one messes with my Rain. NO ONE! I phased and lunged. I bit, and scratched and snarled, barely realized what I was doing until I felt Rain trying to pull me off. I instantly went limp and let her pull me off.

"Change back... please," she said, her voice cracking.

She looked frightened. I never meant to scare her. I just....I just wanted her to be safe. I changed back and she just stared at me, that same frightened look in her eyes.

"I didn't mean to scare you.... please don't be scared of me. I just wanted to protect you," I pleaded. Malcolm came down the stairs with some extra shorts.

"Heard you growlin man. Brought you some shorts," he said, tossing them to me.

I caught them and slipped them on. I guess Rain didn't realize I was naked because she looked away quickly and blushed. It didn't matter, if all goes as planned, she'll see me soon enough ;) Just then, Ian groaned. I looked over at him. He was bruised and bloody. I really tore him up.

"Rain," I said, catching her attention. She looked at me and her gaze softened a little.

"Yes?" She asked quietly. She still looked afraid, and she kept her distance from me.

"Do you want Ian to stay alive?" I asked her.

"What?" She asked, confused.

"I could kill him, or we could take him to Ella. It's up to you," I explained,

"Well.....I don't like the thought of people parents died. I don't wanna see anyone die, or cause anyone's death..." By that time she was crying.

"Don't cry. Please don't cry. I'm so so so sorry your parents are gone. We'll get Ian some help. I promise," I lifted her and carried her out of the room. I set her down on a couch and went back into the office.

'JAKAYLA. Tell Ella to meet me at Ian's Adoption Center and Orphanage, proto,' I said through our pack link.

Less than a minute later, Ella showed up. She walked in the office and her gaze fell upon Ian lying on the floor in a puddle of his own blood.

"What did you do to him?" She asked in a deadly calm voice.

"He hit Rain," I stated simply.

"Why isn't he dead?" She looked at me quizzically.

"Rain's parents were killed. She refuses to see anyone die," I sighed, realizing that Rain is probably hurt beyond repair inside.

The thought made my heart ache. Ella pulled out a vile filled with a baby blue colored liquid inside and handed it to me.

"Leave me to work on him. Go with Rain. She saw you do this to him, correct?" She asked, and I nodded.

"Give that to her then. It'll help with the shock," she instructed.

She ushered me out of the office and shut the door. I turned and saw Isabelle and Malcolm trying to comfort Rain. She was still sobbing quietly.

Rain's p.o.v.

This was too much. What just happened?! I'm not dreaming, and Rider. Is. Dangerous. I can't get too attached to him, or he might hurt me like he hurt Ian.

'But he won't,' a voice in the back of my head whispered.

The voice has always been there, giving me advice and helping me out. Its gotten stronger now. I can hear it..... her, more clearly. I saw Rider walking towards me with a glass bottle filled with baby blue liquid inside.

I instantly hid behind Izzy and Malcolm. I still couldn't get over the fact that he almost killed someone, and the fact that he was a werewolf. Werewolves aren't real. They can't be real. But I just saw one. He stopped and stared at me, hurt filling his gorgeous green eyes. He walked to the couch and dropped to his knees, his head bowed.

"I'm so....rry," his said, and his voice shook.

"I never meant.... never meant to scare you. I just....... wanted to protect you," He said, looking me directly in the eyes.

"I can't live with myself if I knew that there was someone that hurt you and I didn't do anything about it. Rain, I know you probably think of me as a killer, who doesn't..... doesn't care about anyone. That's not true. I care about you Rain. More than anything. I don't want you to be scared of me. Please.... don't be scared of me," With that , he set down the glass bottle and walked outside.

I just sat there, frozen. Then my eyes started to fill with tears again.

"Please don't cry again. It's ok," Izzy pleaded. She picked up the glass bottle Rider left.

"Drink this, it's supposed to calm you and reduce the shock," she said, opening the glass.

I drank the liquid, and felt strangely calmed. This is ok. This has always been ok. Werewolves are real, and I am one. So is Izzy. So is Malcolm. So were my parents. So is Ryder. And that's ok. I got up and ran out of the door. I found Rider inside a hollowed tree outside. He was crying. He was also murmuring things to himself. Things like,

'She'll never love me' and 'I'm so stupid'.

"Rider....... can we talk?" I asked him.
