9. Chapter Nine

Chapter 9

Tyler and I were currently sitting in Milkshake the Sun, eating chocolate icecream. I took another bite and said after I savoured the flavour.

“Why is it that chocolate is the best ice cream to mend a broken heart?” Tyler asked.

I gave him a look and before I could stop myself, I said, “You still have feelings for Paisley, don’t you?”

He shook his head, but I knew he was thinking that. I slammed my hand on the table. “God, why was I stupid enough to fall for you!” I yelled and started to stomp out but Tyler’s hand was on my arm, pulling me back to him.

“But, I love you.” He said.

“No you don’t but I do.”

I woke up, clenching my sheets and the first came into mind was that I loved Tyler. I truly loved him. I clenched my sheets harder.

Why hadn’t I thought this before? Tyler was The One. Tyler was Alex’s Elliot. Then I remembered the first time I saw Tyler and once I saw those pale green eyes, I knew he was The One, I just never thought about it that way.

I put a hand on my forehead. Did he love me too? Then I thought back to my dream. He couldn’t still have feelings for Paisley, right? God, I hope not. I heard my phone go off on my bedside table and I grabbed it. A text from Tyler.

    Wanna go to the shack?

I texted back: Sure. Pick me up in 20?

See you then, he texted back.

I finished getting ready and I pulled my back and headed into the kitchen. Alex and Elliot were already there, making breakfast. Elisa was sitting in a seat, smiling, waiting for her food.

“Going out with Tyler again?” Elliot asked.

“You sound like it’s dangerous for my health.” I said and sat in my seat. Alex brought over a plate and set it in front of me. She put her hand on my shoulder.

“It’s not a bad thing, just you’ve been spending a lot of time with him lately.” Alex said.

“So?” I urged because I knew they had more to say.

“You seem to getting serious about him.” Elliot adds, and puts a plate in front of Elisa. She starts at just as he puts it down.

“So, everyone thinks it’s a summer fling, don’t they.” I replied.

“Uh, Meg, can I talk to you for a minute?” Alex asks. I nod, taking a piece of bacon and following her out into the living room. She sits on the couch and sit beside her.

“I know this isn’t just a summer fling. You’re serious about him, aren’t you Meg.” Alex says it more like a statement.

No point in lying to her, so I tell her everything. I tell her when we first meet, the dream, and everything inbetween.

“Wow,” Alex sounds surprised then her eyes softened. “I think you’ve your Elliot.”

I nod and bury my face in my hands. “I know, but he’s probably looking for a summer fling,”

She shook her head. “I’ve known Tyler since he started babysitting Elisa when she was a few months old. Elliot’s parents and Tyler’s parents have always been friends, and so has Elliot and Tyler. Elliot thinks of Tyler as his little brother. For what I’ve seen him over the years, I’ve never seen him with a girl. Then Paisley came  along and he seemed happy, but there was always that shyness he had.

“I’ve never seen him as happy as he is with you, Megan, so I really don’t think he’s looking for just a summer fling.”

I sigh, “And how do you know all this?” I ask.

“’Cause his parents told me, and this is what I’ve observed.” Alex smiled. “So, enjoy this summer with your true love, Megan, and I know things will work out.”

She kissed my forehead, and hugged me before going back into the kitchen. Elisa came into the living room a moment later and sat on my lap.

“Are you and Tyler going to get married?” She asks. I laugh and hug her close to me.

“I don’t know. Do you want us to get married?” I ask her.

    She nods, “Yes!”

I laugh, “We’ll see.” I said, and I put her down after giving her a hug and kissing her forehead.

The doorbell rang. “I got it!” Elliot called, but I still bet him to the door.

I opened it, and Tyler was standing there smiling. “Hold on, let me get my bag.” I said and quickly dashed up stairs. I grabbed my bag, and I was at the top of the stairs when I heard Elliot and Tyler talking softly.

I walked down the stairs but by the time I reached it, they were done talking and now they were shaking hands.

“Come on,” Tyler said taking my hand that he just shook. I gave Elliot a confused look but, he just gave me the ‘go on’ look.

Tyler pulled me out the door and we headed toward the car. Suddenly I got nervous. I was out with the guy I loved, and I couldn’t speak. Maybe I have loved Tyler along, just never really thought about it.

“You’re awfully quiet today,” Tyler said as he pulled out of the driveway. “Is something bothering you?” He seemed genuinely concerned.

“Nope, nothing.” That’s all I could come up with, seriously.

We drove in silence, but I could still that Tyler was wondering what was bothering me. We pulled into the City Hall parking lot, got our stuff and headed toward the shack. Tyler brought the same cooler we used that last time he brought me here, and the same duffle bag with blankets.

We reached the pathway and Tyler took my hand just like last time, and this time I noticed all the sparks that were going through our hands. So, this is what being in love feels like.

We finally reached the shack, and pushed the door open and took me inside. He sit the stuff down and quickly took out two blankets. He passed one to me, and I set it on the chair.

Tyler sat down and I sat down. There was a questioning vibe going on, but I couldn’t help but ask, “What did you and Paisley talk about last night?”

He laughed, “I knew that’s what’s was bothering you.” He said. That’s wasn’t all of it. “She was asking what was going on between us, then she asked me on a date. I told her I was with you and she said she didn’t care. Megan, please don’t be worried about Paisley, she’s no threat. You’re a million times better than her.”

“So, you’ve compared us?” I demand. I don’t know why I was getting angry.

“What?! No!” He said back and tried to pull me back.

“Come on, you’ve compared us,” I said calmly. Where was this all coming from?

“I haven’t compared you guys. I’ve just noticed that you’re nothing like her.” He was getting a little angry now.

“Sure you haven’t.” Why was I saying these things? It felt like something was controlling my body and mind, that I just started for the door.

“Where are you going?” He demanded as I opened the door.

“Home!” I yelled back and started toward the trial. That’s when the tears started to go.
