14. Chapter Fourteen

Chapter 14

“Happy birthday to you!” My mom sang as I entered the kitchen. Today was my birthday, and I still felt horrible. Apparently a broken heart doesn’t heal fast.

I gave her the best smile I could come up with, and kissed her cheek. She had pancakes and waffles with candles lit on them. She’d always done this Alex and me. I sat the table and blew out the candles

Mom placed a package on the table. She smiled.

I laughed and ripped the packing apart, and smiled at it. There was a photo that I’ve taken with my very first camera and she’d blown it up. With that big frame were 10 smaller ones.

“You can put memories from over the years into those frames.” She said over my shoulder. I turned around and stood up to hug her.

“Thank you Mom.” I said and held her tight. She laughed in my ear. Then she smiled at me.

“I have another gift and it should be arriving soon.” Mom said and then skipped out of the room. I smiled to myself and shook my head. I eat my pancakes and waffles in silence only hearing the occasional clatter of dishes from the kitchen.

After I had a quick shower, and pulled my hair, I headed to go to the beach just to get some me time. I opened the door, and saw a package sitting in the middle of my pathway. I picked it up. The package wasn’t an bigger than a DVD case. But it was deep.

I sat down on the stairs and ripped the package. There was card, scribbled in boys hand writing. I instantly knew it was Tyler’s

I opened the card and it read:

Dear Megan,

You don’t know how many times I’ve written this on a piece of paper. So, I decided to write it in pen, on the card. I didn’t want it to prepped and sound scripted, so here it goes.

I know I should have called or come over begging my forgiveness, but I couldn’t do it. I knew you’d turn me down, and I figured why break my heart even more by getting humiliated. But, that wasn’t the case.

I broke my heart even more by not talking to you. And just when I realize I can’t live without, you’ve left. I went over to Alex’s house, but it been a few hours since you left. I miss you, and I can’t stop thinking about you, Megan.

You’ve taken a piece of me with you and you’ve left a piece of your with me as well.

So enclosed in this package is half of your birthday present.

Happy Birthday Megan.

Love forever and always,

I put the card beside and a piece of a paper was folded and there was a little box. I opened the piece of paper, and saw myself looking into my eyes. In the corner Tyler had scribbled, There’s more where this came from.

I smiled and then opened the box. I gasped. There was a beautiful a beautiful, peridot stone, held by four silver gold claws, attached to a beautiful silver chain. He really bought this for me.

Happy Birthday Megan was on a piece of paper near the stone. I felt tears spring into my eyes.

This was the best gift anyone could have gotten me.

Mom’s other surprise happened to be Alex, Elliot, and Elisa. We’d gone out for dinner. Alex had gotten me diamond stud earring from her and Elliot and Elisa had made me a macaroni necklace.

We were back home. Elliot and Alex were cuddled on the couch and Mom and Elisa were at the kitchen table painting. There was knock at the door.

“I’ll get it,” I called before anyone could say anything. I jumped out of my seat and opened the door and gaped.

There stood a breathing deeply Tyler like he’d been running. His black hair was all over the place, and pale green eyes bright.

“I was. . .worried. . . I wouldn’t. . . make it.” He said between breaths. I swallowed. When he finally caught his breath he went on.

“I’m so sorry about all of this, Megan. You really are the one for me. The One and Only.” Then I was caught in his lips.

The smell of delicious mint went into my sense. I gave up and gave into him. I wrapped my arms around his neck, and his went around my waist and pulled me closer to him.

Once we broke apart, Tyler looked at me. “Did you get your gift?” He asked. I nodded. “Then why aren’t you wearing it?” He asked.

I smiled. “Someone once told me that it was good luck to have it put on by the person that gave it to you.”

“Well then get it.” Tyler said. I pulled him inside and told him to wait so I could get it.

“Who was at the door?” Mom asked.

    “Tyler.” I replied.

“Aw! So he did come,” Alex said from the living room and turned around. “Tyler! Come on in! We don’t bite.” Alex called.

Tyler stepped in and all of a sudden my Mom stood up and went over to Tyler. I quickly escaped up stairs to get the necklace. I grabbed it and ran back down stairs.

Tyler was nodding, with a little fear in his eyes. I put a hand on my Mom’s shoulder. “Come on, you’re scaring him.”

Mom laughed and went back to Elisa. We walked into foyer so we could have privacy. I held out the box and turned around. I lift my hair and I felt the cold chain go against my neck. He fastened the latch and turned me around.

“I love you,” he whispered before putting his lips on mine.
