18. "You can't control me..."

Melody's POV

I awoke with a groan, my head throbbing as I began to sit up. Below me, I felt a soft mattress. My eyes cleared, and my headache grew. The room around me had light blue walls, all the furniture in the room that was made of wood had a dark tint to it. I slid my feet along the flood, looking down at what I wore. I ran my fingers along the purple fabric of the short sun dress, looking back at my other hand as a shocking pain shot up my arm.

I was cuffed to the bed. I tried to pull away again, but the metal of the handcuffs only shocked me more. I stopped pulling and looked the room over again. I noticed the pictures on the dresser, each one of members of Luke's family, and realized where I was.

It was the guest room in Luke's house.

I sighed, "Of course... I break up with him and he turns into a psychopath." I muttered.

A low chuckle interrupted my bitter thoughts. "I'm not a psychopath."

I looked up from observing the cuffs.

Frowning I spoke, "Yes, you are. Why can't you just leave me alone?"

Luke shrugged lightly, keeping his distance, "You need my help. And I'll give it to you."

I shook my head, "I don't need anything from you, Luke. You're just mad because you think I left you for Albert."

He huffed a breath, "I'm angry because of what he did to you. He's ruined your life..."

"Says you." I looked down at my lap, "My life isn't ruined. Just enhanced. A little rocky at the moment...but it's getting good." I then sighed, " was...until you showed your ugly mug again."

He smirked, amused, "Trust me, you'll thank me after all this..."

"After what?" I asked.

"I can't tell you. That thing has you wrapped around his finger. You aren't trustworthy." He leaned against the wall, having gotten closer.

I held my cuffed hand up gently, "Yeah. You're right. I'm a huge threat." I replied sarcastically.

He tilted his head slightly to the side, a small smirk coming to his lips, "I've always loved your attitude."

"Whatever." I murmured, "What do you want from me, exactly...?"

"I want to see if I can find a cure for all of this." He replied, "I hear that if a vampire kills his or her's....creator...they can get their humanity back."

I stared at him blankly, "What...?" I whispered.

He let me process it, and then I became both surprised and furious.

"You're wanting me to kill him?!?"

Luke looked at me with a straight face, "It's worth a try."

"No! I won't do it!" I continued, "I can't. It's not an option."

He blinked, "Why wouldn't you want to be a human being again?"

"Because...." I didn't finish, afraid to say the words out loud.

He stared at me, his eyes challenging, "Because....what?"

I took in a deep breath, "If I did this, and it actually worked, then I would be weaker. I don't want to be weaker than you, Luke."

He stared at me for the longest moment, so I continued, tears coming to my eyes.

"I don't want to be controlled by you anymore. I love him."

Luke's hands curled into fists.

I watched him for a moment, "Ever since we met, you would force me into things. I can't believe it took me this long to see it."

I was silent for a moment, "You can't make me do this. You can't control me....not anymore."

"We'll see..." Was all he said before he strode out the door.
