Blood Lust

Albert Fraiser lived his life cursed with the bloodline of his family. He has grasped this fact for many years, but he's never known the horrors that his way of life could bring until he finds himself creating one of his own. As time progresses, Albert soon starts to feel different about the woman-Melody Lashing-than he had before. But the road ahead is rough...and there's no telling if their relationship can survive the events that lay ahead...

8. Luke's Disapproval

Melody's POV

"You ready?" Albert asked.

We had just parked in the driveway of Luke's house when he spoke. I used to love pulling into this driveway...

Now...I could do without.  Looking up at the house, I studied it as if I had never been there before. It was a two story house painted a pretty white color with a few bushes and flowers in the front. Not too big, but not too small either. Luke had told me just the night before that I would move out of my crummy apartment and live with him. To me, nothing would be better, and then....Albert came along...and screwed all our plans up.

"Melody? Are you listening to me?" Albert waved his hand in front of my face, and I slapped it down.

"Yes, I hear you." I snapped angrily, "I was thinking, is all."

"Well, stop thinking, and get out. Hurry up and do this thing." He replied in a rush.

I shook my head, "You clearly have no heart."

"Not a beating one." He replied with a smile.

I rolled my eyes and opened the car door. After I stepped out and headed toward the house, I shot Albert a hateful look. He just raised his brows from where he sat. Hesitantly, I rung the doorbell and waited. A few minutes later, I rang it again, and began running my fingers through my hair. I was nervous... The last time I saw him he proposed.

I began to fiddle with the edge of my shirt, my eyes on the ground as I thought. What if he got mad? Or really really sad? What if he started crying?! For some reason, I kind of wanted him to cry... It would be so sweet, wouldn't it? Either that or pathetic...

"Nah." I told myself out loud, "It'd be sweet."

I looked up to find that the door was already open, and Luke was leaning on the door frame. I suddenly went brain dead.

"Hey...babe... What would be sweet...?" He asked, smiling a little as he spoke.

"Nothing. I was just thinking..." I told him. He moved, silently allowing me to come in. He was looking out the door as I came in. I stepped in a few feet and then turned to look at him. He was still looking out the door. I couldn't help but notice how his muscles lightly showed through his green t-shirt, or the way his butt fit in the jeans he was wearing.

Hey, I only had a limited time to look over the hunk standing in front of me, so I was going to take advantage of the moment...

He turned back toward me, and I noticed how messy his light brown hair was. It looked as if he had been running his hands through it all day.

"Trouble at work?" I asked without thinking.

Luke had something else on his mind though, "Who's that guy out in the car you drove up in?"

I mentally cussed myself. "He's a friend of mine." I told him.

"A friend of yours, hm...?" He looked like he didn't believe it, but he decided to answer my question first, "Yeah... I'm having some problems with the company..."

Now it was his turn to ask the questions, "Why did you come here?" He then explained his question quickly, "Not like I don't want you over here. In fact, I love it when you're over..."

I smiled a bit, "I get what you're saying..." I told him, "I came over to talk about our relationship."

His small smile turned into a frown, "Well, that doesn't sound good..." He murmured, gesturing toward the couch in a silent way of saying, 'Sit if you want.'

I just shook my head at his request, "Luke....I don't feel....comfortable with...moving forward so quickly." I looked down with only my eyes as I spoke, trying to choose my words carefully. "I don't want to marry you."

He was silent for a long time. He slowly began to nod, "That's understandable. But we've taken our time. Babe, it's been a whole year. In a month or so it'll be two. Why not go for it now?"

"I was overwhelmed the other night. You put me on the spot in front of the whole restaurant." I scurried for more words to say, "I just would feel better if we didn't go through with this." I finally added, "Any of it."

Luke nodded, "Okay... So, the wedding is off." He started, "If that's all, then why do you look so guilty? It's not the end of the world, Melody. We have a long time to-"

"I meant that I don't want it. Any of it. The whole...relationship..." My words were forced out of me, but at least I'd said them.

Luke's blue eyes widened a little, "Oh." He spoke quietly at first, "You're wanting to...break up..."

I nodded, and took the ring off my hand. I hesitated before placing it in his hand.

His eyes suddenly flickered in realization, "You're leaving me for him aren't you?" He pointed toward the driveway from where he stood.

It was my turn to be surprised. "What?"

He went on, "Who is he? What did he tell you? Did he threaten you or something?"

"No! No, Luke, I just don't want to be in a relationship any-"

"Tell me who he is!" He yelled.

I shook as his voice rose. He'd never yelled at me like that before.

It got very quiet all of a sudden.

"I need to leave..." I finally murmured, going to walk out the door. He grabbed my arm as I tried to pass him.

"First, tell me who that guy is." He demanded.

I jerked away from his tightening grip, and watched his angry face fade to a very shocked expression.

He stopped, as if he didn't know what to do or say.

My strength, I thought, he must have noticed my strength.

I took advantage of this, and walked out the door quickly. Jogging to the car, I opened the door and quickly got in.

"How'd it go?" Albert asked, casually.

I scowled at him, "He was furious." I murmured.

"Really...? Who'd you tell him you were with?" He backed out of the driveway and started down the road as he spoke.

"Oh, he didn't let me tell him anything. He just assumed it was the person that had brought me here."

His eyes widened, and the car jerked forward and to a stop. I placed my hands on the dashboard.

"What the hell, Albert!?" I yelled, "What are you doing?"

"Why did you let him think that?" He asked.

"I don't know! I didn't think about it. Cause he grabbed me and yelled at me, I guess. He scared me."

He sighed quietly, slowly propelling the car forward at an oddly slow speed.

"Why does it matter if he thinks that I left him for you? He doesn't know who you are." I told him, "What, are you afraid of him?" I smirked a little as he got quiet.

"Big bad Albert is scared of a human?" I teased before stating a little more serious, "It's not like he can track you down or something. He's not a mobster; he's a financial business man."

He was shaking his head, "He can find me. If he can find out what you are, then he can find out what I am...and..." He trailed off with a sigh.

"And...what...?" I asked.

"And then he will be able to kill us both."

I was seriously confused now, "Kill us? Albert, he's human. We're...what we are. How could he kill us?"

"We aren't invincible, you fool." He snapped unintentionally.

He sighed, "Melody, I'm sorry I didn't tell you before, but your fiance-"

"Ex." I corrected quickly.

He looked at me, obviously annoyed, "Your...ex...has been trained to kill vampires. He was born into a family that found out that our kind existed, and wanted to put an end to it. So, if Luke finds out about you..." He left me to fill in the blank, "And now you've dragged me into this."

I was silent for a while, leaning back in my seat. I remembered the look on Luke's face when I had pulled away from him with my newly improved force. The look...of surprise...

Oh my God...

He knew what I was.
