2. Decisions, decisions...

Albert's POV

It has never been easy, being what I am. With everything I seem to do, there are always horrible consequences. At the moment, I looked down at the one problem I had: the girl. Her small figure lay crumpled at my feet, her turquoise blue dress wrinkled and dirtied from our previous struggle. I stared down at her, my thoughts spiraling as I tried to figure out what to do... This could be the end of my 'live normal enough among others' plan. I could do one of two things: I could hide her body, or turn her into one of my kind... As I looked her over, I suddenly saw a shimmer roll off her left hand. I knelt, and sure enough there was a small silver engagement ring on her left ring finger.

Great... This night just couldn't get better...

Someone was going to miss her, I told myself, if I hide her, they are bound to find the body. My frown was deepening by the minute.

Risk exposure....? Or have to deal with her for the rest of eternity...?

With a sigh, I muttered aloud, "I could bring her back ,and if I don't like her, kill her."

A small smile came over my face. That was actually a great compromise...since vampires' bodies ashen when they die...

I picked her life-less body up in my arms and stood, shifting her head on my shoulder so that it looked as if she were asleep. I held her tightly to my chest, as if she were a fragile treasure that I couldn't afford to lose.

Because I really couldn't take the risk of losing her in any way...

I walked out into the night and stood under the dull streetlight, looking down the road for any passing cars. I walked across quickly at a human's speed rate. About five blocks down, I came to the hotel that I had been staying at. As soon as I had entered, the lobbyist looked up from her Peoples magazine and sat straighter. Her green eyes flashed with interest when they spotted the girl that was in my arms. People like her are the reason I have to be careful. I already know that she is a nosy, sneaky woman. I don't have to know her to guess it. It was practically written on her forehead in big bold letters.

As I passed, her frown turned into a small smile. I returned the seemingly innocent look on her face with a polite nod.

From there, I went straight to the fancy-looking elevators. They were nothing fancy, and sounded as if they would stop working at any moment. I would have rather taken the stairs, but that woman was probably watching me. I pressed the button, and waited impatiently as the numbers lit up above the doors of the elevator. The doors opened, and I hurried inside. I pressed the button for level four, and shifted the girl in my arms.

I prayed that she wasn't getting too cold...

I had a limited time to do this, you see... Once the heart has stopped beating, blood automatically stops circulating. The blood becomes cold, along with the rest of the body. If I am not fast enough with this process, then her heart will not be able to run again. The colder she becomes, the less likely I will be able to bring her back.

Once the elevator stopped, I hurried out and into the hall. After I found room 124, I swiped my hard through the lock and opened the door. Shoving the card in my pocket, I went in and closed the door with my foot. I quickly put her on the bed and removed her hair from her face.

Her pink lips had turned a light blue, and her face was very pale. Her brown eyes were closed, her long lashes caressing her cheeks gently. I noticed that her light brown hair that once shined was now duller. I shook myself mentally. What was I doing? Looking at a corpse like this... Picturing her as a living being when that was gone...

That thought went away quickly. I had no time for that sort of thing...

I pulled a pocketknife from my left pocket and slowly slit my wrist deeply. I made sure blood had bubbled from the wound before I leaned over the side of the bed and opened her mouth. I let the blood drip into her mouth, trying to make sure it got down her throat. After a few minutes, I saw that my skin was healing itself, and cut the wound open once again. I had cut myself three times before I felt myself actually weakening from the process. I leaned away, watching as my wrist healed once more.

Did I overdo it...? I chuckled lightly at that thought. I was going to have to find another person to drink, I then realized.

I stood and backed away from the bed, my eyes on her as if she would spring to life so quickly. I knew she wouldn't...yet I kept looking back...

I changed into a long sleeved button-up shirt so that I could cover my slowly healing scars. As I walked out the door, I placed the 'Do Not Disturb' sign on the door knob and locked the door. Calmly, I made my way to the lobby. Once I exited the elevator, I remembered the nosy lobbyist.

Damn... She's going to know that I'm up to something...

It was too late, though, because her head had snapped up in my direction. Her eyes were trained on me now, and I was convinced that I wouldn't be able to run without her getting the impression that I was doing something seriously worth looking into. Instead of turning back, I walked forward and went passed the desk. I noticed the suspicious gleam in the woman's eye, and sighed in disappointment. Reaching the exit, and walking out the door, I thought about what I would do about her...curiosity....

I had a sinking feeling that I'd have to take care of her soon...
