22. First lesson...

Today is Monday and all the rush is to get to either get to lesson one, or just hang around and be the the last one in. I don't want to give a bad first impression to my teachers so me and Phil sprint to the drama studio and both arrive just on time. A teacher is standing there - gazing into space - while all the other people in our form are dumping their bags by the wall, we do the same.

"Hello class! I am your new drama teacher, Miss. O'Brien. I am delighted to be with you and we are going to have a fabulously wonderful year! We have plenty of work to do, but we are going to have a lot of fun." "Now, I am going to put you in groups and I will give you a scenario, you have to improvise. So act to the situation and add something extra, always agree with what is happening. Ok? I will put you in five groups of five."

We were all given numbers and I was put in group number three. So group one came up first while we all seated on the floor in our groups, and we analysed them. The group had the scenario of putting out a fire. It was extremely serious! A bit too serious, that someone got carried away..... and was very melodramatic. Two people made special sound effects from their mouths to add to the atmosphere as well as acting.

Then group two had the scenario of being some children misbehaving at a party. As I thought, that got way out of hand and was spelling out the words 'rampage' and 'chaos'! So miss had to immediately pause the performance and speedily move on.

Next was our group! We had the scenario of running away from an active volcano. We all sprinted on the spot and I then shouted "Hurry up! It's a volcano and if you don't run now then you'll be burned alive! Do you want that to happen?"

Then someone on my left replied "No!"

And then I screamed "Well then get a move on and RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!"

"What about the animals and crops? They'll all die and we'll have nothing." That was coming from someone to my right.

"There may be famine, but what would you rather have? You were alive and had scraps, or dead with nothing because it will all crumble beneath these walls?! We will be trapped in these barricades of flames and watch all be decimated, unless you choose life over luck."  I took a nervous glance at the audience and a lot of their mouths were wide open - I blushed heavily but acted as if I took no notice.

Suddenly, someone fell to the ground. They had been swallowed up by the blazing fire. Gripped by the teeth of the beast and swallowed whole.

There was silence for a quarter of a minute, and everyone had stopped running. Miss, had paused our performance. We had a few claps and all felt awkward. I really blush now that I am currently crimson red. Heads are turning to face our direction as we move to sit down and I have a feeling I might turn amethyst purple.

Group four came up and they performed a piece about A & E. Somebody had been severely injured by falling off a mountain while skiing and they had to be rushed to hospital by a helicopter full of paramedics. This group, is admittedly very good and they perform with confidence and fluency. There was a continuous flow and sequence of events, which was well organised which really shows as they perform now. Seriousness was taken and there wasn't any jokes to be made, like these series of unfortunate events.

Finally, last but not least, group number five close the lesson. They had to pretend to be at a disco. Phil was in this group and as soon as I heard Miss O'Brien say 'disco' I gave a tiny laugh to myself and tried to contain myself. Some people looked at me and tried to contain themselves also. He looks at me and smiles, I smile back obviously and watch the performance. We are all highly engaged in the moment and it is hilarious! The music 'Get Lucky' by Daft Punk is playing and they all get to it. They got 'Moves like Jagger', and some were break dancing while others were 'goofing' around. Philip was doing half and half really. He was in the centre, break dancing but making it look funny and enjoyable as well. Everybody is clapping to the beat now including myself and the group is made up of plenty of individual soloists. At the end, they get an up roaring ovation and we are dismissed to our next lesson... geography.
