Mr Brinley was doing what he did best in his music classes: Not being able to control anyone.

Iris jumped out the window, Bec straightened her hair in a prac room.

Axel grabbed my arm and dragged me into a prac room, where we were all by ourselves.

"Wait here," He says as he stands at the door, "I'll be back."

We had taken the room with the drum kit in it.

After a couple of trips, Axel had bought in a bass, an electric and acoustic guitar, and some amps.

"And this is for?"

"Music."

He picks up the acoustic guitar, and after idly picking at the strings, played a beautiful melody.

"You can read music, can't you?"

He grabs a stand and places a couple of pieces of paper on it.

I sit up, and inspect the papers, to find the bass tab for "My Heart" by Paramore.

"And why are you doing this?"

"To show you how much fun music can actually be."

So we sat there, practicing, until we perfected it.

"What about the drums?"

Axel waked back out of the room and came back in with Jak and Blaize.

"Jak plays drums, Blaize does rhythm guitar, and I understand you sing."

"What!? No. Well, yeah, but… I can't play bass and sing."

Axel walked back out and came back in with Hayden

"But…"

"I've heard you sing, don't deny that you're good."

So that's how it went, and in the end we had the whole class in our prac room, listening, watching us.

After we had finished and everyone had left, I punched Axel, not too hard, but hard enough for him to at least feel it.

"What was that for?"

"For making me sing in front of everyone, didn't you see the way Iris an Bec were looking at me?"

I slid down the wall and put my head in my hands.

"Come on, Abbey, it wasn't that bad."

He sat down and put his arm around my shoulders, and for once, I felt safe enough to cry.

I cried until Recess, where I had to stop to not look weak, but my eyes were watery and red.

"Are you okay now? Do you want to talk about it?"

I shook my head, and got up.

"Promise me you tell me what's wrong after school, okay?"

I nodded, and opened the prac room door, and stood at the table, waiting to be dismissed.

I looked around to find Iris and Bec staring at me.

Iris flicked a piece of paper in my direction, and after unfolding it, I read it.

Abbey, We helped you, and you repay us by ignoring us, pretending that we're not here.

And showing off like that, well, that's it.

-Iris and Bec

I looked at them, and felt a tear rolling down my cheek.

If Axel hadn't come, they still would've been helping me.

I rubbed my eyes, and walked out, not caring about Mr Brinley going off at me.

I walked to the oval and sat on the grandstand, waiting for Axel.

In about five minutes, Axel was sitting next to me, just staring at me.

"Are you sure you want to wait until we get home to talk about it?"

"Axel, I've already said I'm not talking about it."

But I pass him the note that Iris had given me.

I watch him read it, frowning in concern as he reads and re-reads it.

"What do they mean helped you? What's been going on?"

I turned away from him, not wanting to see the concern on his face anymore.

"Like I said, I don't want to talk about it."

The music then went, and we headed off towards the gym for health.

Mrs Florington seemed to be in a good mood today, and we got to play Chaos and other things, and then we had to head to SOSE, except Mrs Florington pulled me back just before I left.

Mrs Florington is my favourite teacher.

She had helped me too.

"Abbey, I heard Mr Brinley going off at you for leaving earlier, and I'm just wondering whether you want to talk about it?"

I looked up from the floor for once to look into her eyes.

Those piercing blue eyes that look like they can see through anything.

The eyes that scared me.

I quickly dropped my gaze back to the floor.

"I don't know…"

Soon after that I find myself lying on the floor of the gym, dizzy and discombobulated.

I look up to see Mrs Florington standing over me.

"Are you feeling okay? You look sick and tired. I think you should go home, but tomorrow come talk to me."

So, with a little help from Mrs Florington, I got up and walked home.

At about quarter to two, I heard a knock on the door.
