Unsustainable

Everything has changed. A load of EAHLF's (Energy Adapted Human Life Forms) have taken over when everything is destroyed. Lilienna is forced to help the human race continue from where it left off when the destructive energy wave passes through. The normal routine of the people dying, then being saved is broken and the long road to recovery is ahead. But is the power plant the only place where the energy can be stored? Are there other places or is it UNSUSTAINABLE....

7. Changing

Marcus didn't care what anyone else thought of him, he was just in a bad mood. He'd been stuck with Woof for the past a whole millenia, the longest millenia in his life. He despised being immortal, it meant he had to put up with Woof for the rest of eternity. The only way he could die was if he was starved of energy, but then they would all die. It was all or nothing. The barren destroyed landscape was so different to what it had been just hours ago. All that was left of the trees were gone, there was a lot less muddy sand and in some places there was nothing just some black hole; there was defiantly something going on. Nothing could ever be destroyed. They had to interrogate that poor girl that had woken up to one of Woof's mental breakdowns. he felt so sorry for her, he remembered exactly how it had felt to be new to the EAHLF. The girl, he didn't even know her name, might know something that they didn't. Probably not. She didn't even know what was going on right now. He should probably turn back. But he couldn't; there was a massive expanse of, well, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! He was stuck! Couldn't go back, couldn't go forward. Nothing. If he moved even slightly, he would fall to his doom.

I sat up and the girls stared at me.

"Do you need some help?" said one girl.

"Eva leave her alone! She's probably traumatized!" said the other.

The one, I guessed was Eva, said "She needs to know we're not going to hurt her, I think she's frightened."

"I'm not frightened," I said in a hoarse whisper.

"Mai? Do you think there's enough energy to help her?" asked Eva.

"I don't know, how much will you use?" replied Mai.

     "Not a lot."

"Do it then. But only because we need her to survive." For a while nothing happened but then, quite suddenly and blissfully, her mouth became moist and her whole body felt hydrated. How?

"What's your name?" asked Eva. I don't know why but I had kind of taken a liking to Eva; she was kind, nice and she had just helped me now. Mai was really nice too, but she seemed to be busy and always being too in charge to realize what  everybody else was feeling. But I decided to give it some time and maybe I would come to like her. After all, she was the one that made all the decisions.

"My name is Lilienna." My voice wasn't quite so hoarse now but it was still sore.

"Well Lilienna we have a lot to go through with you.

Woof was tired and he wanted to go to sleep badly. There were too many voices talking and it hurt his head, the-sort-of-alive-sort-of-dead-girl was talking so maybe she wasn't quite so dead and more of a girl-that-looked-kind-of-dead-but-wasn't-dead-quite-yet. Woof wasn't good at naming things. His head hurt. He reached his hand up to where it hurt and found a gigantic lump of rock, buried into his head. How did that happen? Why did the weird stuff always have to happen to him?

He was very pleased with himself; he had managed to chase of Marcus with his screaming and hissie-fit throwing. He didn't like Marcus because he was so matter-of-fact and always-perfectly-right and both the girls seemed to really like him. But how many times had Woof been helpful? Loads! And how many times had they thanked him? NONE! Well, Mai had said well done to him once, but that didn't count as a thank you.

Woof sat up and peered over to see if he could catch a glimpse of the girl-that-looked-kind-of-dead-but-wasn't-dead-quite-yet. She looked awful and really needed some energy to make her look pretty again. He caught a little of what they were talking about, it was about energy and becoming an official EAHLF. He remembered that talk, it was very confusing! When Eva and Mai had forgotten something in the talk, he called over to them, but they ignored him again. He called again and then realized that he couldn't speak, he had been muted! Why had they done that? Was it because of his screaming? He so badly wanted to speak again.

Woof was frantically dancing around and gesturing, hoping one of them would notice. Finally, after what had felt like ages of waiting, the new girl stared at him and softly said, "I think he wants you." She carefully pointed at him.
