The Nerd Next Door

I was awoken by the noisy beeping coming from my alarm clock. Great. Another day in hell.
Swinging my legs over the side of my bed, I left the warm and comforting feeling and made my way across the cold wood floor to get ready for school.
Don't get me wrong, I love to learn. It's just the people there... Well let's just say I don't quite fit in. Hi, I'm Kristine, and I'm the nerd next door.

6. Chapter 6

Niall and I rushed to the hospital as fast a we could, I didn't want to waste a moment. He offered to drive me there, since it probably would be a long walk from his flat, to where I needed to be.

Sooner or later, we arrived at our destination and I wasted no time in running up to the room which held my mum.

I burst through the doors, only to find a nurse, the doctor, and of course , my mum who was looking paler than usual.

"Mum!" I cried out before rushing to her side. Niall decided it would be best if he waited outside.

Her fragile looking face slowly peered up at me, a faint smile slowly spreading.

"Your Kristine?" The doctor asked.
I nodded quickly and looked up at him.

He was slightly slender and lenient, his clip board in his hand and his pencil tucked behind his ear.

"Well, it seems that your mum has cancer. We recently discovered when she first started to get sick. I'm sorry, but there's nothing we can do to help. This type of cancer is un-curable. She may last a week at the most."

I ran a hand through my silky light brown hair as it lied in soft waves on my shoulder.

Turning to look at mum, she had a glimpse of sadness in her sparkling blue eyes. As well as she tried to hide it, she couldn't.

I lightly gripped her hand in mine and took a seat next to her bed.

"Let us know if you need anything Ms. Eleen." And with that, both the doctor and the nurse walked out of the room, leaving just me and mum alone.

"Mum, your going to be okay. Promise me you won't leave me. You can't."

Tears started to streak down my face as she gently lifted her hand to wipe them away.

"Hey hey, Kristine, look at me darling. Everything is going to be okay. Stay strong my brave little solder. You can do this."

Her words of encouragement didn't really help, for that it reminded me that she would be gone soon. I would be left alone. I would have no one left.

A quiet knock on the door interrupted us before Niall hesitantly walked in the room.

"Sorry, I don't mean to intrude, but visiting hours are almost up."

I nodded in acknowledgment and before he could leave, mum spoke up.

"Excuse me young man, I don't believe we've met before."

Niall shot a glance at me before strolling to mums side to shake her hand.

"Right, do forgive me, I'm Niall." He gently smiled at her, in which she returned the gesture.

"Niall. What a wonderful young man. I'm Mrs. Eleen, but do call me Jocelyn."

I grinned at how well he was getting along with mum.

"Pleasure to meet you Mr- Jocelyn."

"Oh poppycock, the pleasures all mine."

Wow, Niall was really hitting it off with her.

"Sorry to interrupt, but aren't visiting hours almost over?" I slyly grin.

"Oh yes. Kristine, I love you. Don't forget that."

I lean down and place a kiss on top of her fore head.

"I love you too mum."

"Oy, mind dropping me off at Harry's?"

I ask Niall as we get in his black Kia Optima.

"Uh yeah, sure."

You could tell he wasn't too keen about him, so I dropped the subject.

He reached for the stereo and clicked a button, making it blink once before playing a random station.

Just as he was about to change the channel, I recognized the song.

"Wait! Don't change it!"

He shot a side glance at me before retracting his hand and inserting the keys into the slot, making the machine whir to life.

"I didn't know you liked The Ready Set."

I smiled a bit and look down at my lap.

"Yeah... It's just their music is so addicting!" Niall chuckled as he pulled out of the parking space and began the journey down the road.

"I think it's cute."

I blushed furiously in reply.

"She's got a love like woe- woe! Woe! Girls got a love like woe,"

He sang along to the radio, in which he turned up a little louder.

"You have a really good voice."

I suddenly out bursted, making me regret that I ever said it.

"Oh yeah? I bet yours is better than mine." He challenged, smirking a bit.

"Oh no, mine is terrible!" I laughed, practically bagging on myself.

"Alright, prove it!" He turned a knob, silencing the melody coming through the speakers.

I bit my lip nervously as I came up with a song.

"Isn't she lovely, Isn't she wonderful. Isn't she precious,
Less than one minute old.
I never thought through love we'd be, Making one as lovely as she.
But isn't she lovely made from love."

I finished and looked up at Niall, who was currently concentrating on the road.

"Kristine- that was-"

"Terrible. I know."

The vehicle came to a halt as we pulled up to Harry's drive way.

"No! It was- beautiful."

He looked up at me, with sparkle in his deep blue eyes.

"Just like you."

He started to lean forward. W-Was he going to kiss me?! Oh no. Oh no oh no oh no!

I started to panic. Sure Niall was handsome, he had a lovely voice, his personality was to die for, you could get lost in his eyes for hours and hours...

No! Stop it Kristine.

He got closer and closer, his lips just about to touch mine-

We both turn our heads to see- Harry!

"I've got ta go."

He nodded sadly. I couldn't just leave him like that! I decided to do what felt right, I pecked him on the cheek.

Oh how his eyes lit up, along with his smile.

I quickly jumped out of the car and ran to Harry, who's face seemed as red as a tomato.

This should be interesting.

"Don't 'Hey' me. I saw that. He almost kissed you."

He gritted through his teeth.

"I-I'm so-"
I didn't even have time to finish, for he had pushed me up against the wall and fiercely pressed his lips against mine. I tried to push him off, but he was far too strong for me. His hands made their way to my hips, encouraging me to jump. When I didn't, it just made him angrier, in which he just picked me up, forcing me farther into the wall for support.

I snuck a glance at Niall, who's face was clearly in shock, and had fallen a little. He slowly backed out of the drive way, heading back to his flat.

As soon as he was gone, I tried once again to push Harry off of me. Still, no luck.

"Harry," I whine against his lips.

In return, all I got was a low growl.

My eyes started to water, my vision becoming slightly blurry. I don't like this side of Harry. Not at all.

A small tear escaped my eye, slowly rolling down my face. Harry seemed to notice, for he pulled back, annoyance clearly shown. But when he recognized what was happening, his dark eyes quickly changed back to a lighter color.

He gently set me down, curiosity filling his senses. All I did was place my head on his chest, quietly sobbing. You would hear a sniffle hear and there.

He took no time in picking me up, bringing me closer to his chest as he held onto my legs and entered the door of the flat.

Closing the door with his foot, he made his way up t'words his room and gently set me down on his plush bed.

Silence. Well, other than the sound of my quiet sobbing.

"I-I'm sorry, I, I just don't know what came over me. I-"

"It's okay Harry."

I looked up at him; eyes still watery. Now, he had a glimpse of tears in his.

He pulled me in for a large, comforting hug.

"I don't want to loose you."
