The Nerd Next Door

I was awoken by the noisy beeping coming from my alarm clock. Great. Another day in hell.
Swinging my legs over the side of my bed, I left the warm and comforting feeling and made my way across the cold wood floor to get ready for school.
Don't get me wrong, I love to learn. It's just the people there... Well let's just say I don't quite fit in. Hi, I'm Kristine, and I'm the nerd next door.

5. Chapter 5

"Hey Kristine!" Niall greeted as I reached the exact same spot where we met this morning.

"Hey Ni." I smiled, as he returned the gesture.

"Ni?" He raised an eyebrow and gave me a questioning glance.

"Yeah. You heard me. Got a problem?" I sassed. He chuckled in reply.

"So what's up?"

"I thought you'd wanna hang out. Maybe get to know each other better?"

I was about to answer when I was interrupted by a tall curly haired boy.

"Kristine- Oh. You again." Harry mumbled. Niall's eyes started to turn a shade darker. But before he could do anything, I had moved to his side and grabbed his hand, giving it an assuring squeeze before replying to Harry's comment.

"What do you want Harry?"

"I wanted to talk to you, so we'd better get home." He was still staring at Niall, who in return, was doing the same.

"Fine. Niall, I guess we'll have ta hang later. Maybe I could have your number?"

His focus turned t'words me, his expression softening.

"Yeah. Here," I offered him my phone, which he gladly took as he typed in his digits.

"See ya later Ni." I waved a last goodbye before being dragged off by Harry, leaving Niall standing alone, his figure slowly fading into a blur.

"What the hell?!" I finally said as Harry let go of my arm when we had reached his house.

"I don't like him. Plus, your mine."

I scoffed.

"Since when?!" He slowly turned around, his facial expression darkening.

He began to walk in my direction, as if he were an animal stalking his prey; which in this case, I was the prey.

I started to walk backwards to try to increase the distance between us, but all he did was walk forward.

Soon enough my back hit the wall, with Harry gaining an advantage. We were a foot apart, but that decreased quickly.

He put his hand on the wall on either side of my waist; leaving me with nowhere to run. Just great.

His face got closer to my small one, and his lips were just centimeters from mine. But he dodged my mouth and went to my ear instead.

"Since now." His raspy voice growled before attacking my lips with hard, hungry kisses.

I soon gave in, and for a while, it just felt right.

Our lips moved in sync as I quietly moaned against his soft plump lips.

In instinct, I tangled my fingers in his soft chestnut curls, as his hands slipped under my bum, gripping my thighs as he encouraged me to jump up.

As I did so, I wrapped my legs around his waist and he supported my bum with his arms wrapped securely around it.

Slowly, his tongue slid across my bottom lip, asking for entrance. Of course, being my first time ever doing something like this, I didn't know what he wanted.

He growled softly against my lips, and I felt him squeeze my bum.

My eyes shot open and i gasped, and he took the opportunity to slip his tongue into my mouth.

I relaxed after he did so, now knowing what he wanted. He explored my mouth, slowly moving t'words his room.

As soon as we got there, he took no time in closing the door and pressing me down on the bed.

He quickly broke the kiss and tugged off his shirt, only to have his lips meet mine again.

His wondering hands slowly made their way across my stomach, down to my jean button.

"No." I swiftly pushed him away before he could take it any farther. In return, Harry stuck out his bottom lip, pouting for more.

"Harry, I said no. That's it." I started to rise from my previous position, but he kept a strong arm on either side of my head, meaning no escape.

"Harry..." I whined, as he bit his lip.

I stared into his soft green eyes, and he did the same to my wide blue ones.

I softly kissed his noes.

"Please let me go?" I bat my eyelashes and stuck out my lower lip, giving him my famous puppy dog face.

"Answer me on this one thing. Then I'll let you go."

I sighed in defeat. "Fine. What is it?"

"Be my bird?"

This time, it was my turn to bite my lip.

"I don't know..." I teased.

He gave me a bored look, and that's when I gave in.

"Okay. I'll be your bird." He smiled and kissed my forehead before hopping off the bed and walking away.

"Cheeky Bastard..." I mumbled to myself smiling.

"Hey Harry, if you don't mind me asking, where's your mum?"

After our little "episode" upstairs I decided to come join him in sitting on the couch and watching some Telly.

"Oh... She left for a business trip. She said she would be back in a week or two..."

Ah great. And he's still shirtless.

I bit my lip and slowly nodded my head in reply, sitting down at the other end of the couch, not wanting to annoy Harry.

"Hey, Come 'ere love. I won't bite."

I shot him a questioning look, but all he did was chuckle.

Sighing in defeat, I let him lean over and grab me by the waist, tugging me over to his side of the sofa. I now sat on his lap and was reclined back to lay across his chest.

"Harry... Can I ask you something?"

I looked up at him, and in return, he looked down at me.

The afternoon light shown brightly enough to allow me to see his well sculpted features.

"What is it babe?"

I turned around so that I was now draped across his chest, and I could now hear the steady thump of his heart beat.

"Why me?"

He took his eyes off the Telly and stared into mine.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, why did you choose me? There are plenty of girls out there. Ones that are prettier. Smarter. Slimmer. Taller. Why me?"

He sighed. "Because Kristine... There's just something about you, and it drives me completely bonkers. Sure I've dated other girls before, but none of them are as real as you."

I softly smiled and looked down, just before he took my chin in between his index finger and thumb, and gently lifted it up.

"Kristine, I love you."

Those last three words made my heart beat faster. I've never felt like this before. It was amazing.

"Harry I- I love you too."

When he started to slowly move in, I did the same. Finally, our lips connected, moving at a fair pace. Much like a first kiss. My eyes fluttered open, studying Harry's facial features.

All was perfect, until his phone rang. We broke apart and he reached into his back pocket, where the intent buzzing noise was coming from.

His eyes darkened as he sat up, with me scrambling to the cushion next to us.

"I uh- I have to take this." He said before exiting the room.

Well, better take the opportunity to take a look around the house.

I got up from my seat and began walking down a random hallway, not knowing where it would lead.

I saw a few pictures of him with his mum, and a strange man too. I didn't know him. But they all looked happy. Harry looked about seven.

Moving on, I looked in the first room I saw. You could tell it hadn't been used in quite a while, for when the light was turned on, there were sheets over strange objects.

Out of curiosity, I slowly pulled off one of the ghostly white sheets, and it revealed a... Guitar case? Wait a minute... Was this a music room?

With a sudden burst of excitement, I ran over to one of the biggest objects and un covered it.

Perfect! A piano.

I blew off some of the dust that covered the keys and gently played a C chord. Still in beautiful tune.

"I didn't know you played."

A deep voice said from behind me. Surprised, I jumped a little and spun around fast enough to give myself whip lash. Sure enough, there stood Harry, looking at me with a questioning expression clearly shown on his facial expression.

"Um yeah... Sorta..." I awkwardly rubbed my arm.

"Well, play me something." He pulled out the bench hidden from underneath the piano and sat on it, soon patting it, motioning for me to come sit. I hesitated for a moment, but then obeyed.

I ran my fingers over the black and white keys, trying to find the right notes.

"Come on skinny love, just last the year," I sang the familiar words, harmonizing with the piano.

"Pour a little salt, we were never here, My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my...Staring at the sink of blood and crushed veneer."

I hit more notes and the melody picked up speed.

"Tell my love to wreck it all,
Cut out all the ropes and let me fall. My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my... Right in this moment this order's tall."

I caught a glimpse of Harry. You could tell he was intrigued by my work. I continued anyway.

"And I told you to be patient,
And I told you to be fine,
And I told you to be balanced,
And I told you to be kind,
In the morning I'll be with you,
But it will be a different kind.
I'll be holding all the tickets,
And you'll be owning all the fines.

Come on skinny love, what happened here?
We suckled on the hope in lite brassieres. My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my... Sullen load is full, so slow on the split.

And I told you to be patient,
And I told you to be fine,
And I told you to be balanced,
And I told you to be kind,

And now all your love is wasted.
And then who the hell was I?
And I'm breaking at the britches,
And at the end of all your lines.

Who will love you? Who will fight?
Who will fall far behind?"

I stopped there and played the last bit on the keys.

"I know, I know, I'm a bit rusty..." I turned to look at him, and found that he was absolutely gobsmacked.

"Harry..." I felt the heat rise to my cheeks and tint a light pink.

"I never knew you could sing."

"Yeah... I'm sorry you had to hear that. It probably sounded worse than nails on a chalk bored." I chuckled nervously.

"No no, you sounded... Amazing! Simply wonderful! Where did you learn how to play and sing like that?"

"Well... Actually I taught me self. My Nan used to have a piano in her living room... Gosh, I'd spend hours just fiddling with the keys." I smiled at the memories I had there.

"Wow. Do you- do you think you could maybe teach me something?"

"Of course, what do ya want ta learn?"

He tapped his chin in deep thought before saying, "What was your first song?"

"Well... My first song to play was Twinkle Twinkle... But that was when I was three." I giggled slightly.

"I had heard it on a little star mobile I had hanging above me bed, so I decided I wanted to play that. Ever since then, I would listen to something, then repeat it on the piano. Grandad called it 'Playing By Ear'."

Harry nodded slowly. I turned my attention back to the keys.

"Alright. Twinkle Twinkle it is then?" He nodded in agreement.

"Okay, first note. C." I pointed to the long white key. This continued through out the whole song. Every once in a while his hand would brush against mine, and he would look up at me smiling. You could tell he was enjoying this by the twinkle in his eye; no pun intended.

"And there you have it! Ladies and gents, Harry Styles has now learned to play the piano!" I announced as Harry shot a toothy grin, his dimples clearly showing.

I smiled back at him before arising from my seat.

"Where do you think your going Love?" Harry said cheekily pulling back down, and wrapping his arms around me.

"I should probably text Niall. After all I did say I would." His face fell.

"Oh." I groaned in frustration.

"Harry, there's nothing going on with me and Niall. I swear."

He looked up at me with his bottom lip stuck out.

"Trying ta use my own moves against me aye? Well two can play at that game." I smirked as I lent down and grabbed him by his white v-neck that he had put on.

I started to tease him, with my lips just barely hovering his.

"Kristine..." He whined. I raised my index finger to hush him.

"No pouting, or else you'll be punished further."

"Cheeky... I like this side of you." He stated winking at me.

In a reply, I roughly pressed my lips to his, tugging at his shirt to come closer. Instead, he pulled me onto his lap, so that my legs wrapped around his waste.

Repeatedly, we kissed numerous times, and before he could take it any further, I sprang up and made my way to the front door.

"What the... Hey!" I giggled as I heard loud clumsy stomps coming t'words me.

"I'm leaving ta Niall's!" I called. But right before I could get out the door, he had slammed it shut with one hand pressed angrily on it. He spun me around with his free arm and pressed me against the door, planting a surprisingly soft kiss, gently to my lips.

"Be safe."

'Hey Ni :) It's Krissssss can I come over?'

I smiled and sent the text to the number Niall had typed in.

'Sure love xx where are you?'

I looked around and saw the nearest street sign.

'Gorge Street. I was just walking round the block'

'Oh wow, just walk straight forward. I'll meet ya outside'

I guess he lived on that street?

Soon enough, as I walked down the lonesome, quiet road, I saw Niall sitting on the driveway of what I'm guessing was where his flat was.

"Hey." I greeted shoving my phone in my back pocket as he gave me a bone crushing, yet comforting, hug.

"Wanna come in?" He pulled away, gesturing t'words the home.

"Naw, I was just gonna suggest we stay out here in what looks like it might rain weather." I sassed. He chuckled, rolling his eyes, as he made his way inside.

Although outside was dark and eery, the inside of Niall's flat was pretty modern. He had a few guitars displayed neatly on the wall, one or two pictures hanging lopsided. But it had this warm and comforting embrace that lingered in the air for some reason.

"Come on." He smiled, grabbing my hand to guide me to what I'm guessing was his room.

"Me dad is almost never home... He's always on business trips."

I nodded my head, even though I wasn't really paying attention.

"Do you play?"

His attention turned t'words me, looking up from his hands that he was fiddling with.

"Yeah, actually, I do. You wanna learn some?"

Guitar was the one instrument I had fancied, but never had the nerve to pick up.

"Yeah. I would like that." I smiled at him as he picked up a stray acoustic he had lying around the room on his way to sit on the messily made bed.

His gaze turned to me as one of the corners of his lips tugged into a smirk.

"It would be a lot easier to teach you if you were actually here next to me."

I felt the heat rise to my cheeks, staining them a light pink. "Yes of course." Making my way across the worn gray carpet, I slipped out of my black vans I had on and crawled onto the bed, sitting beside him.

"C'mere! I won't bite." He grabbed my waist, effortlessly tugging me over so that I was sitting in between his legs as he sat his guitar on my lap; gently showing me where my hands where supposed to go, resting one hand at the neck, and the other at the base.

"One of my personal favorites is The A-Team."

I looked up at him.

"You like Ed Sheeran?" I was genuinely surprised.

"Yeah. Anyway, on to the first chord. What you wanna do is take this finger-" he wiggled my index with his larger one.

"Along with these," he did the same to my middle, ring, and pinky.

"And place them on this fret," he then placed my first finger on a chord.

"And this one." The process continued until I had basically all of the song together.

"And that's when you add in the song lyrics so it should sound something similar to this-" I allowed him to take the instrument from me and place it on his own lap as he began to strum the first couple of notes.

"White lips, pale face. Breathing in snow flakes, burnt lungs, sower taste."

His beautiful Irish accent still lingered in the air as he sung the magical melody.

Finally he had gotten to the chorus, in which he had picked up speed a bit.

"And they say, she's in the class A-Team. Stuck in her day dream, been this way since eighteen, but lately, her face seems, slowly sinking, wasting. Crumbling like pastries, and they scream, the worst things in life come free to us."

As he sung, I took the time to study his features. The way his roots started out a dark brown, then seemed to turn a golden blonde at the tips. The way his ocean blue eyes seem to turn color at different situations, at how his Irish accent was just as beautiful as the body that contained it. What was seconds, seemed like minutes, which seemed like hours.

"Kristine?" I snapped out of my other world and came back to reality.

"Huh? What?"

He pointed to my jeans.

"It's ringing."

I nodded quickly before taking it out of my pocket and answering it.

My eyes went wide and I nearly dropped phone.

I muttered a few words before gathering myself and ending the call.

"Something's wrong with mum."
