The Truth

I hope this short story gets your heart beating fast, and if I get feedback I might add more! Thanks!

11. Finale

This foolish, two-faced girl. I saved her, and now she is here to kill me. The only shred, if you can even call it that, of empathy I have towards the situation is that she doesn't exactly have a choice. Vampire slayers are very strict towards the policy "Go big or go home." Too bad for her, I don't intend on ending up with a stake in my non-beating heart.

"You see, I am quite remorseful that I am the one who has to tell you this, but you might as well throw in the towel now. There really is no hope for a nineteen year old human to beat a five hundred year old vampire."

Her shoulders rise and fall incoherently. "I've beaten the odds before."

"Let's just get this over with."

My enhanced speed brings me forward in less than three seconds, our toes and noses practically touching. My hand wraps around her throat, and my right arm lifts her up. Before her final moment, the intake of her last breath, a scratch is made.

The slightest scratch, the slightest movement. Barely perceptible, but still there.

"You didn't come alone." I say, cocking my head to the side.

"I believe you have mistaken me for an amateur."

With that, she drives a sharpened chunk of wood through my heart.

    The truth?

Smoke and mirrors have done me in.
