6. The Tragedy

One week before school started, Lea had packed her trunk. When Lea's parents got home nearly a month ago, they went to Diagon Alley the following week. They got all of her school supplies and a lot of background reading and a dictionary. She memorized the dictionary.

Lea was bringing the black kitten with her to school. Her parents would take the other two. She decided to call her kitten Raven. She was so small and cute.

Lea was practicing magic for the day. She decides to practice magic every day and she already memorized all the spells in first year. Lea could also preform the flawlessly, without speaking. She hadn't known she had to speak and saying it in her mind wasted less time.

Lea's ticket was still on her desk. She didn't want to lose it in her trunk. It was packed full. She had her school uniform, her lesson book, cauldron, some muggle books, her scales and some of next years books, if they went on to the next books in the series.

The second year work had been all but mastered as well. So far Lea's favorite subject was potions and transfiguration.

Suddenly the telephone rang. Lea got up and answered it. "Hello, Mother," she said without looking at the caller-I.D.

"Lea," her mother said thru tears, "something's happened. It your farther. He was in a car crash, a drunk ran him over. Sweetheart, he's dead."

Lea dropped the phone. She was still processing the information. Dad can't be dead. He can't be!!

"Lea I'm writing to your school. The funeral will take place next week. You'll miss some school," Lea's mother said. "I'll be home soon." Then the line went dead.

"Nooooo!!!!" Lea screamed and screamed for almost an hour.

Back in Hogwarts Snape was talking with the headmaster, Dumbledore. "Nooooo!!!!" There was screaming in the potion's master and the headmaster's head. It lasted nearly an hour.

Finally, the screaming stopped. "She has a powerful mind. Miss Talbot doesn't even realize it, does she Severus," Dumbledore asked Snape.

"No. It is my belief that she learns Occlumency as soon as she gets to school. She shouldn't be able to get into the staffs' mind. Also, they should be warned ahead of time. Do you know what happened to make her so desperate," Snape asked Dumbledore.

"No. If I were to guess I'd say someone close, a parent most likely has died," Dumbledore stated. "Poor girl."

"Yes, she has been having rough time. Lea seems to have problems with bullies. they enjoy hurting her through cats. She seems to have a strong bond with them," Snape said remembering how Lea found the kittens.

"Interesting. I believe we will get a letter form Lea's parents soon. She will be about a week behind everyone when she does come to school. I will explain what will happen when she gets here to the students. Will you get the staff together, Severus," Dumbledore asked Snape.

When the staff was assembled Dumbledore explained to them about Lea's strong mind. Then he explained about what they will do when Lea got to school.

"Lea will be sorted the night she gets here. I ask you to try to get her up to speed by the end of the month. She will be studying with you all one-on-one until she is caught up. Are there any questions?"

"Yes," a strict looking witch said. Her black hair was in a tight bun and her lips were in a thin line. "A friend at the Ministry has said that Miss Talbot has been practicing magic. Apparently she has gone on to year two spells."

"Really? I must say that is impressive. Don't you agree Professor McGonagall," Snape said.

"Yes, very. What will we do if she has passed the first year students? Will we keep her in the first year classes," McGonagall asked.

"We will give her the finals of year one and if she passes, she will attended second year classes," Dumbledore said after a thoughtful silence.

Snape was actually a bit surprised. He had thought that he was the only one who had thought of that. If Lea was ahead of the others, he would have taught her during their Occlumency lessons. Now Lea could study with those more likely to challenge her.
