13. A Letter and a Bloody Message

Lea still couldn't find anything on a snake like monster in the library and she was getting peeved. It had been two weeks since she started looking. Halloween was tomorrow and she decided to stop for the week. She needed a rest.

That morning, Lea got a letter from her mother. She opened it to see a huge shock. It read:

Dear Lea,

I have some great news. It's time I told you. I'm four months pregnant!! Your farther and I wanted to keep it a secret until we were positive. Then things happened and they got complicated. I apologize for not telling you sooner, but I nearly forgot myself.

You will not be home for the birth because of school. I do not want you to miss out. I would love for you to come home on the holidays, but I will understand if you cannot.

Lea, I do need your help. I am going to find out the gender in a month. When I do I will write you and ask your opinion. I need help with names. Write any suggestions down and send them home as you think of them.

Stay on top of your work. I love you.
Your Mother.

Lea stared at the letter for a minute longer. That was when Draco finally worked up the courage to 'talk' to her again.

"What do you have there, Talbot? A letter from Daddy? Oh wait, your Dad died." Draco chuckled darkly.

"Yes he did. Now go away. No better yet, go take a shower. Your hair is way too greasy."

"You haven't answered my question yet," Draco said with an air of indifference.

"If I give it to you, will you please wash your hair? It's starting to smell," Lea said, putting her hand up to her nose. People from the other tables were listening now. Most were snickering. Draco glowered at her.

"Yes,"he said sneeringly, sure she wouldn't give it to him. Lea handed him the letter. He read it and gave it back.

"Just what we need, another muggle in the world. Or worse another," he stopped and lowered his voice, "mudblood." He walked off and Lea was smiling after him.

Lea went back to the common room to get her books for the day. No one was there to her pleasure. Something on the billboard caught her attention. There was an announcement for a dueling club. Second year and above we're allowed to come. It would be hosted by Lockhart and Severus.

The rest of the day passed quickly, until Potions. They were working by themselves and Lea had just finished with the last instruction, with 15 minutes left of class. Neville had just added a dark green liquid to his potion that wasn't part of the potion ingredients and it exploded, spraying boiling liquid everywhere.

Lea quickly threw a protection spell around herself. The potion disappeared when it touch the enchantment. The thing that drew people's attention was not that she had place the spell, but that she had done it silently.

Severus explained it away as an act under great stress (which apparently does happen) and went around vanishing the potion. It cause huge welts that turned green and black and after the potion was cleaned up, Severus went and gave everyone that got hit (which was everyone but Lea) a clear blue and gold potion that caused the welts to vanish.

After class was over, Lea went to talk to Severus. "I was wondering if I could go to the dueling club because I'm doing second year classes," Lea told him.

Severus thought it over for a minute. "I do not see why not. Remember to talk. Go to the feast," he said dismissing her.

Nothing happened until the Halloween feast. Lea ate mostly junk food. She still didn't like pumpkin juice, so she drank water. The food was great and the talk to her, nonexistent. The odd thing was that she didn't see the Potter gang.

Lea left the feast with everyone else. They were walking down the corridor when something happened. Everyone stopped and was walking up to the front to get a better view.

There was a cat on a hook with blood dripping off. On the wall, written in the cat's blood, was a message. It said: THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS HAS BEEN OPENED. ENEMIES OF THE HEIR BEWARE.

Draco said something stupid and idiotic. Lea wasn't listening. She stared at the words on the wall. Lea flashed back to when she heard the voice. She was sure that that thing had done it.

Dumbledore came out with Severus and told everyone to go to bed, except for the Potter gang. Lea decided to hang back and listen to what was said. As it turned out, the three were at a Death Day Party.

Lea was just heading to bed when Severus stepped out of the shadows.

"You should be in bed, Lea." He did not seem all that upset by it.

"I know that thing I heard did this, Severus," Lea said.

"I know. Go to bed."

Lea sighed in defeat. "Yes, sir. Good-night." Then Lea hugged him and went off to bed.

Severus stared after her, thinking. He felt protective of her and thought of Lea as his daughter. Severus would die if something ever happened to her.
