Not to mention all these killer...things.

7. A Hogwarts Sorting, a Week Late

Lea was walking towards the wall between platforms 9 and 10. The owl said that a train would wait for her a King's Cross Station until noon that day.

Lea was wearing her muggle clothes over her uniform. The skirt would take getting use to. Raven was on her trunk on the trolley. Her wand was in a strap on her forearm so she could get to it quickly.

Lea's mother was with her. They hugged and said their good-byes. Lea promised to write every day. Her mother had decided to buy an owl when they had go e to Diagon Alley. It was a black flecked tawny owl.

Lea got onto the train and the platform started to side away. She went and found a compartment by the front of the train. She sat down and waited.

It must have been about three hours until a man came into the compartment. Odd, Lea thought. I thought I was the only on here.

The man had golden blond hair and was smiling as if his life depended on it. He had perfectly straight teeth and managed to show them all, all the time. It must hurt, but maybe he face froze when he was little, Lea contemplated.

"Hello! My name is Gilderoy Lockhart. I will be your Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher this year! I was also asked to bring you to school and catch you up on what we will be doing! Dumbledore told the school about your dilemma because of coming from a muggle family," the man said. Lea could already tell that he was going to be her least favorite teacher. He was just so perky and too caught up in himself. He's like the popular kids in muggle schools.

"You will not be taken to the school by the boats like the other first years. You will be taken by the carriages. Leave your luggage in the train. It will be taken care of.

"Next you will be sorted into your house, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin. You will go sit with them and you will get your revised schedule from your head of house. Yours is different, my dear, because of your late arrival.

"You will have the month to get caught up, and if by a miracle, pass all the first years and the exams, you will move on to year a year two schedule. Are there any question," Lockhart asked, still able to show all his teeth.

Lea had none and if she had, she would have kept her moth shut. Lockhart was just too much. There was no way that he did all those things in his books. Lea bet that he had never been successful at anything but looking pretty his whole life.

Lockhart left after a minute of silence. Lea spent the rest of the trip reading muggle fantasy stories. Just after sunset the conductor announced that they would be arriving shortly. Lea stripped off her outer layer of clothing and stuffed them into her trunk.

She got off the train and onto the platform. Off to the left was a carriage that apparently pulled itself. She got in the first one with Raven on her lap. Lea double checked that she had her wand on her arm and stepped inside and closed the door.

The carriage ride was only about ten minutes long. When it stopped she opened the door and found herself staring at a huge castle. Many of the windows were ablaze with lights.

On the steps in front of the school stood Professor McGonagall. She introduced herself and showed Lea the way to the Great Hall. She was the only one to be sorted was explained to her.

When they got to the Hall, McGonagall pulled out an old hat. Lea sat on the stool that McGonagall had waved into existence with her wand.

"Hmm. There is a thirst for knowledge, a need to be the best and courage. Above all you would defend your loved ones with out remorse. So shall it be Gryffindor or Slytherin for you. You like being different. No muggle-born has ever been in Slytherin and you are muggle-born, with extreme talent. You will be picked on are you all right with that," the hat asked Lea.

At that Lea had to smile. How can I have real friends without being persecuted, she asked the hat.

"Slytherin!!" The hat screamed to the Hall. Everyone was stunned and were quiet. Dumbledore smiled and he and Snape began clapping, hesitantly followed by McGonagall then the whole staff. The Slytherins all began to hiss and boo at her. Everyone else was dead silent.

Lea went to sit with her house and everyone moved away from her. After her supper, she was shown to the dormitory by a Slytherin prefect girl. From then on, Lea was shunned by the whole school, with a few exceptions. Mostly the staff.
