Crystal Waters

Topaz and Sapphire are for the most part two average sisters. They lived with their Mom and Dad in a wealthy home. One day, they came home to their mom sobbing, all her belongings gone. Their father had disappeared and taken all of their money. Later that year, their mom went missing. Not because she left, but because she was killed. They want to get revenge. One more thing,

They're Mermaids.

6. Wanted

Our father is a con man. The page pops up showing numerous people who he has stolen from, including our mother. He is a nationally wanted criminal, in the sea and on land. Apparently, he was born underwater, but hired a scientist to give him a potion to turn into a man. Our mom was his first victim, then he went off to live on land for the rest of his life. Arsenal has lived in Ireland, California, Alaska, the Caribbean Islands, and on random ships. He is going to be hard to track down, but we are determined. I look at Topaz who is staring at the screen.

"Topaz, are you okay," I ask her gently. She turns around with a tear-streaked face.

"How? How could he fool Mom? It's wrong, wrong! He tricked all of those innocent people just for money," Her face becomes redder and redder with each word. Topaz is going to blow because she is so angry.

"It's okay, we can get him back. It won't be that hard to track him down," I lie, for her own good.

"You're right. We can do this. We are hunters, daughters of Neptune," She sighs heavily and regains her composure. "We need to research more," I smile at my sister, her mouth set in a grim line, she may be emotional at times, but she pushes through it.

While Topaz uses the computer, I decide to head over to the books. I read some on staying hidden and blending in with your background, easy, we're mermaids. Another book is written on tracking animals, it has some decent tips, but It's too vague. Finally, I find a book on spying. It gives directions on how to track people, be practically invisible, and not make any noise while following someone. I pour over the book for hours, taking notes, until finally it's about 6:00 p.m. I walk back to Topaz, still researching determinedly.

"How's it going? I got a lot of notes on a really cool book," I ask while she is still clicking and typing furiously.

"Huh? Oh-um- good," She replies absentmindedly. I arch my eyebrows at her.

"Topaz, it's 6:00 and the sun is setting. We need to go find a hotel," She glances at me with wide eyes.

"But, I have really good information, I'm on a good lead. I can't stop now, it took me forever," I sigh, we can always come back tomorrow.

"We need to go, you can come back tomorrow. I can get us a good room so we can stay nearby." My stomach rumbles, we need to get food.

"What if someone closes it? I-I just need to stay here," Topaz gives me the puppy dog eyes and I smirk.

"Sorry chica, no can do. I'll ask the librarian to keep it on," Exasperated, Topaz grumbles and stands up. "Besides, Kona and Star must be getting hungry, and you need to feed yourself." She perks up at the mention of Star and starts walking towards the door.

"Fine," she replies turning around for one brief second before flipping her hair and gliding out the door in her diva pose. I giggle and thank the librarian, asking her to keep the computer on. She agrees and tells us her name, Jaycee. Jaycee tells me to ask her any questions.

"Ok thanks so much, you've been a big help. See ya tomorrow!"

I wave and wander back to the stables. Topaz is already there with a saddled up Star and Kona. She cocks her head at me and I burst out laughing. Kona is wearing my sunglasses, along with the wig I brought for disguise.

"Oh Kona, you are so adorable!" She looks at me questioningly and shakes of the wig. It lands on Topaz who flicks it off into a pile of poop.

"Ewww Ga-ross!" Topaz shrieks. I just laugh and rinse the wig off in the water.

"Topaz, you are a character," She grins at me, "But we need to go, now can we please leave?" I ask impatiently.

"Mayyybbeeee, do you promise me the good meat on the fish?" I sigh and reluctantly reply "yes". Kona nudges me.

"Okay girl, we can go now, I'll be you're hungry for some minnows?" She nuzzles my pocket and I feed her a few fish.

I get on Kona and we gallop off heading to a random hotel. We check in and get a small room with two twin beds. Star and Kona got fed and bedded in the rusty stables. I plop down on my bed chewing some trout, while Topaz fiddles with the T.V. We look at each other and start cracking up, no sign of today's grim news. A news station turns on flashing a picture of us, and the word Reward.

"Oh my gosh!" Topaz exclaims, "They're looking for us!" She starts hyperventilating, but I think it's kind of fun. We are the most wanted people in the ocean, not for crime, of course. This means that book in the library was really helpful, but we can't go back. We have to sneak back tonight, grab the book, and finish the adventure. I gear up, meanwhile Topaz is having a panic attack.

"Topaz, chill. We need to go back to the library and get that book. You need to print out your research pages, too. Then, we get out of here. We are leaving right now!" She looks at me pleading, but I just shake my head. "We need to go, NOW!" I shout and she glares at me.

I sneak out the hall, past the hotel manager who is frantically dialing numbers on his conch shell, trying to alert the news. I stifle a giggle as Topaz sneaks out the front door. We head to the stables, grab Kona and Star who are quite unhappy with being woken up, and ride into the night.
