Crystal Waters

Topaz and Sapphire are for the most part two average sisters. They lived with their Mom and Dad in a wealthy home. One day, they came home to their mom sobbing, all her belongings gone. Their father had disappeared and taken all of their money. Later that year, their mom went missing. Not because she left, but because she was killed. They want to get revenge. One more thing,

They're Mermaids.

9. Long Day

Topaz

It's been 5 hours of riding with only one break, and I'm exhausted. Sapphire is fine, she didn't get knocked out with a cold punch to the jaw. That freak, he deserved to get locked up in a closet, punched, and slapped, it was kind of harsh, but hey, I was mad.

"Saphireee, can we pleasseee take a break?" I whine.

"No, you just rested 2 hours ago," She says harshly.

"Ugh, well can I at least have some fish?" I shoot her my best puppy dog face and Saph laughs.

"Just one piece, but only because you're 'hurt' and I'm nice," She winks at me and hands me a strip of sheephead. It's a little stale, but I'll be fine.

Hungrily, I gnaw on my fish while we ride further and further down the coast. We are in the middle of a land-dweller state called Oregon. Saph and I have to go down and around Baja, California, through the Panama Canal, and have Kona and Star take us to Graystorm Bay. The map shows gray and blue swirls around it, meaning storms and hurricanes. It's an ideal place for pirates and wanted thieves. Finally, we spot a hotel, and put on wigs and fake face pieces. I read the sign, Seastar Landing, sounds nice enough, I couldn't have been more wrong. We walk in to a full on drinking fest. There's a huge bar with lots of merman staggering about. Saph shoves her way through with her dagger, hissing curses at anyone who comes near us. We quickly approach the front desk.

"Um, hello. We would like one room and stables for our dolphins," I say politely in a squeaky voice.

"Well it costs 5 Abalones a night, plus 1 Abalone for feed and stable. You pay up front."

"Yeah, we will take one night please and stable for two dolphins." I slide 7 Abalones onto the desk. "I would also like to have dinner delivered to our room, thank you," I demand in my best spoiled voice.

"Whatever, the stables are out back. You feed your own dolphins." After Saph and I feed our dolphins, we return to the lobby. The clerk glances at us and pushes a button and the elevator opens.

"Thank You," Sapphire and I say simultaneously.

When the elevator doors close, Saph looks at me funny and starts laughing."You know, you are really good at that 'Spoiled Princess' act," She says matter-of-factly.

"Oh really? Maybe it's not an act. Did ya ever think of that?" I flip my hair and pretend to be busy with my appearance.

"Topaz, Topaz, Topaz, what am I going to do with you?"

"You'll think of something," I wink and the elevators open. We find our room, D 405, and set our bags on the kitchen table while taking off our disguise. "Wow this is really nice, compared to downstairs," I say in awe.

"I wouldn't think it would be that nice compared to a Princess's quarters," Saph states in her British accent as her eyes twinkle. I giggle.

"It depends. Ok first matter of business. Where to next?" I slide my map out and spread it on the bedside table. "I think we should stay close to the coast, people won't recognize us, and there's a lot of small fish so we can hunt once a day and not waste anything."

"No, we should head out deep. There's more kelp and caves. Also, it's better for Kona and Star. They were raised there and know the forests better than us."

"I don't know, we'll decide in the morning. For now let's get some sleep. We have another full day ahead of us." Saph plops down on the bed while I scavenge for food.

Fridge, empty, pantry, empty. Finally, I open the drawers underneath the T.V and am rewarded with dried whale jerky. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about saving animals and stuff, but if you find an incapacitated whale, you can save it from an awful death by throwing a spear at it's heart. Plus, you get a meal that could feed a family of 6 for a week. My eyelids close as soon as I land on the bed and I slowly drift off to sleep.
