Crystal Waters

Topaz and Sapphire are for the most part two average sisters. They lived with their Mom and Dad in a wealthy home. One day, they came home to their mom sobbing, all her belongings gone. Their father had disappeared and taken all of their money. Later that year, their mom went missing. Not because she left, but because she was killed. They want to get revenge. One more thing,

They're Mermaids.

11. Life as a Runaway

Topaz

As Saph and I swim along, our dolphins perk up at a loud screeching sound. "What is that?" I yell over the noise.

"Sounds like some kind of an alarm," Sapphire shouts back and my eyes widen.

"We need to hide!" I urge Star into a small cave, Saph follows. "Okay, we know its the Ocean Patrol that have probably followed us because of the GPS." She shoots me a look and I continue speaking. "They won't stop following our trail, so here's my idea." In a hushed tone, I carefully lay out the plan and how to execute it. Sapphire nods excitedly.

"Do you think it will work?"

"Of course it'll work. I thought of it, remember?" I giggle and hand her the last of my trout, we need to go hunting soon.

"Um-okay, good luck Topaz," She gives me a quick hug and heads over to Kona.

"Don't worry, it'll be fine. Just don't panic, kay?" I whisper, and my sister swims out of the cave.

I dig through my backpack and find the perfect thing, a coil of rope. Quickly, I grab Star and take off her saddlebag and harness. I jaggedly cut the rope with my dagger and gently place it around her neck. After 10 seconds, I peek around the cave and see Ocean Patrol riding their dolphins.  "Okay girl, we can do this," I pat Star twice on her back and once on her fin. She glides out acting injured and abandoned. Perfect. Ocean Patrol tries to grab the rope but she quickly swims away.

"Stupid dolphin, get over here!" The leader shouts.

On and on they try to catch Star, but she keeps swimming farther and farther away. I see my sister sneak up behind them and quickly knock them out. She grabs their GPS and programs it falsely, the opposite direction of where we're going. I blow my whistle and Star speeds to me. I pat her and feed her minnows. "Good girl, Star. I'm so proud of you." I put the saddlebag and harness on her, placing the rope in my bag.

"Well, that was interesting," Sapphire laughs and grabs onto Kona. "Ready to go hunting?"

"Duh, I'm starving," We lead our dolphins to a shallow beach area and spot some salt-water-perch swimming in the waves. "Wait here," I command Star and slowly draw out my jeweled dagger.

Saph swims to the other side, cornering them to the shore. One tries to escape, and quick as a cobra, Sapphire strikes it with her knife, adding another fish to her belt. "On three," I say. "One, two, thr-" My count is cut off by laughter and incessant chatter. I look at my sister and roll my eyes. We take cover in a cave as three mermaids with hot pink tails and long hair swim by slowly, gossiping. The one with pink streaks in her platinum blonde hair approaches our dolphins and giggles.

"Hmm, who would leave such beautiful animals out in the open. You know what girls, I think I recognize these pets, yes I do. Kona and Star belong to the Waters girls. And I do believe that they are missing, are they not?" The other "Pinkies" nod their heads slowly, smug looks plastered across their faces. "Oh Sapphire and Topaz, come out from hiding, otherwise I'll report you," Pink Streak grins evilly. She turns around completely so I can see her face, and I gasp.

"That's Marina, remember her from our classes? She always bossed everyone around and made fun of us, saying we didn't look much like princesses and were spoiled brats.

"The nerve of some people." Saph replies. She glances at me and we swim out to Marina and the Pinkies.

"Look you little brats, just give us our dolphins back and we won't bother you. We can all forget about this like it never even happened, kay?" Saph mock smiles and bats her eyelashes. The Pinkies roll their eyes.

"Well thats rude," Marina states. "You should be the ones begging us for forgiveness. We might consider giving you your dolphins back and not reporting you. Mizzz Topaz," Marina draws out the 'z', "You wouldn't mind doing us a favor in order to get your precious pets back?"

I sigh and nod. "Fine, what do you want?"

Marina grins and licks her lips, savoring the moment. "I want you to write a note to Neptune, telling him to take me in as a replacement for you guys." The Pinkies laugh and Marina glares at them. "You tell him that you won't come back and you want him to give me all of your clothes, possessions, money, whatever, you get it. In exchange I won't report you and will give you back your dolphins, deal?"

"Heck no!" Sapphire jumps in. "We would never ask Neptune to do that. You're just a spoiled, greedy, rich girl. You don't deserve anything!"

"I could say the same thing for you, orphans. And your criminal father too." Marina sneers.

"Thats it!" I scream and pin Marina to the floor. The Pinkies let out a collective gasp. "No one, and I mean no one insults our mother, Neptune, or our crazy father, even if he is a criminal."

"Whoa, watch it fish breath. You're messing up my hair." Marina gags and tries to put her "perfect" hair back into place.

"You're under water for crying out loud! Your hair moves with the water!" This girl is so ridiculous, I want to slap her. "I'll make you a deal. How about we give you some of the fish we caught and you and your barbie doll friends can be on your way."

Marina laughs. "Definitely not. How about you let us, me, Macy, and Dakota come with you on your journey. I've always wanted to go on an adventure. You feed us and let us ride your dolphins. Once we arrive safely to the islands, we'll get out of your way. Now, do we have a deal?" Saph looks at me and sighs. I get off of Marina and help her up.

"Fine, but you better not be a pain."

"Oh I'll make sure of it," Marina winks. "Macy, Dakota, get your tails over here we're going on a trip." They slowly swim over, eyeing us suspiciously. "Macy, sweetie," Marina coos to the young red-head, "Can you please call our parents and let them know we'll be gone for a while?" Macy nods and grabs her shell from her bag. "Dakota," Marina approaches the brunette, "Get all of our stuff together, don't forget my bag, okay?" Dakota swims off somewhere leaving Marina, Sapphire and I alone. "Well, this is going to be such an amazing trip. The Caribbean calls me!" Marina saunters off and I groan.

I reply to Saph, "This is going to be an amazingly annoying trip."
