Crystal Waters

Topaz and Sapphire are for the most part two average sisters. They lived with their Mom and Dad in a wealthy home. One day, they came home to their mom sobbing, all her belongings gone. Their father had disappeared and taken all of their money. Later that year, their mom went missing. Not because she left, but because she was killed. They want to get revenge. One more thing,

They're Mermaids.

10. Inventions

This morning, I wake up at 3 a.m to a very cranky Topaz complaining about everyone chasing us and blah, blah, blah. I tell her to shut up and get some rest. This makes her even angrier and she starts hitting me with a fish.

"Sapphire," she complains, "We have to go, otherwise people will recognize us. And we're going my way, in the shallow parts of the water, close to the coast." I just groan, but have no choice to sleep because Topaz forces me to get up. She eagerly packs up her stuff and grabs the map. "According to my calculations," Topaz smirks at me, knowing I'm not good with maps, "We should swim for about 9 hours if we want to reach the tip of Baja by tonight. That's why we have to get up early, Saph."

"Fine," I croak and groggily make my way to the stables, making sure to stay away from the bar.

Kona and Star are happy to see us, although a bit sluggish because we woke them up. As we swim diagonally toward the coast, Topaz pulls out a box-shaped gadget and starts playing with it.

"Hey quit it, that's annoying," I give her a look.

"No, it's our GPS. See, it shows where we are and where we need to go. I stole it from the manager's desk," Topaz grins and holds it up for me to see.

"Well, it's still really annoying, and you're getting on my nerves. Have you ever thought that the manager might be able to track it down, since it is a tracking device?" I hiss and her smile instantly disappears. Good.

"N-no, but-uh- do you think he can find us?" Topaz looks at me worriedly.

"It's a possibility. Seriously Topaz, you need to be more careful, we don't need one, your map is accurate if you use it right," I give her a half-hearted glare then smile, "So? Aren't you gonna break it?"

"Oh yeah. Just give me one second," She throws the GPS and it bobs in the water as she pulls our her trident and I hear a loud crack. We look up and see the GPS in pieces as Topaz pushes a button on her bracelet and the trident instantly returns.

"Wow, how'd you do that," I gesture toward the button.

"Last night, I couldn't sleep so I snuck into the manager's office, where I got the GPS, and grabbed some magnets. I attached one to our tridents, and one to our bracelets. When you push it, it activates the magnetic force that is strong enough to pull them together. Try it," She replies.

I get off of Kona, put the trident handle in her mouth, and motion for her to swim away. She looks at me curiously, then reluctantly leaves. I press the button on my blue bracelet, and it brings Kona, with the trident in her mouth, back to me. I laugh and feed her some fish.

"Topaz, you are a genius! This is fantastic, but aren't we on a tight schedule?" I ask sarcastically.

"I am a genius, and yes we are on a tight schedule, so you better get your tail outta here!" She exclaims and surges ahead on Star.

"Hey wait up!" I shout and whisper to Kona, "Kona, forward," Kona enthusiastically races and catches up to Star.

"This is going to be a fun trip!" Topaz exclaims as she fingers her new invention and looks at me excitedly.
