Surprises and Secrets

Meg has always lived an average life. She was an normal teenager. She had good grades. She cleaned up her room. She ate her vegetables. She had a normal family. Until one day, a stranger knocks on her door…

3. The Truth Comes Out

Mr. Robinson looked Meg straight in the eye.  After a few minutes, which felt like an eternity to Meg, he cleared his throat and looked down at his folded hands, then up again at her.

"Megan, your father is part of a special group of thieves called the Circle of Artists.  We get paid to steal specific pieces of art or antiques.  Your father is one of the most skilled spies/thieves in our little group.  So, Megan, I guess what I'm trying to say here, is that your father is a thief."

"What?!" she sputtered, her haughty air suddenly vanished in the wind, "that's not... but he's so..."

"Meg," Mr. Robinson scolded, "Your father is a respected man who follows all of the circle's rules.  He is very valuable to us and irreplaceable.  I know this might be hard to take in, but we need you to be a part of that team.  You might be the most suited person for the job.  And we don't expect you to learn on your own.  I have a daughter who can help you learn the ways of a spy and a thief, and their is also Katherine, who teaches all of our new recruits.  Her son will help out, too.  Tomorrow you will start training so that next Friday you will be ready to save your dad.  So what do you say, Meg?" he said, suddenly brightening from his grave expression with a smile, "Wanna be a thief?"
