Jade Kapan just might be the most normal person you could meet. But don't jump to conclusions, because you couldn't be more wrong. And she has no idea. No idea that the angels fight demons constantly just to keep the humans safe. No idea that she can change the whole course of the war. The only thing is, will she have the strength to make a vital decision?

1. Beginning

"Hurry, Jade! You're going to be late for school!" My mom's voice rang through our house.

"Just a second!" I called back before looking in the mirror one last time. Ugh. I was hoping that by the start of high school I could at least be attractive. I mean, I'm told that I'm beautiful all the time, but I never listen. My blonde hair gleamed from my shower this morning and my green eyes glinted in the morning sunlight that filtered through my window. This summer I had even gone to some makeup classes and managed to do my eyeliner, mascara, and eyeshadow perfectly. At least, it looked good to me. I grabbed my backpack and hurried downstairs. I entered the kitchen to grab a bagel then dashed outside to the bus stop.

My best friend Cassie was waiting for me there, in her usual black converse, skinny jeans, and a sweater.

"Hey, Cassie" I said as I approached so I wouldn't startle her.

"Hey Jade. How excited are you for high school?!" She asked, with a little too much enthusiasm in her voice.

"Um, actually, I'm kinda dreading it." I replied honestly.

"What?!" She said, clearly astonished as the bus pulled up. As we were boarding, she kept talking. "Why? You have it made for you this year! I bet that you'll have a boyfriend before the end of the quarter."

"I don't think I really want to date yet, though." I said.

"Oh, you're no fun." she chided.

The rest of the bus ride we just caught up with one another, until we pulled up at school. The two of us went to find our lockers, then headed to the gym for an assembly, which was totally boring. After that, we went to homeroom, to find out who was in our class. Our high school runs just like an elementary school does, for safety reasons. As I entered the classroom, expecting it to be full of only the people that I already knew, my eyes fell on a sight that took my breath away. There was a new kid, and he was gorgeous. He was tall and well-muscled like he spent all of his free time doing sit ups and bench-pressing. He has carmel-colored hair that was perfectly swished to the side like he just got back from a walk on the beach. His eyes were the color of Caribbean waters. He saw me enter, then rose to greet me, which made my heart skip a beat.

"Hey, I'm Mark, and you're Jade, right?" He asked. I had no idea how he knew my name, but all I could manage was

"Uhh... yeah."

"Nice to meet, you. I'll see you around." He said casually.

The way he made me feel was indescribable. I felt like we were meant to be, and anything else is unacceptable.
