Tanya is a 13 year old girl, who lives with her mum, dad and annoying older brother Lucas. He never leaves her alone, and he is always pestering her! She finds out that she actually has a long-lost identical twin sister, but they got separated at birth. Tanya can't wait to meet her sister, and she is so excited, but there is something not right about this. Little does Tanya know that a dark secret is being held back, but was it really her family holding it back or Tanya herself?

26. Moving

Tanya's mum sat still, her eyes shut, fast asleep. She was snoring lightly, worn out, exhausted. Lucas lay attached to endless wires, a drip by his side. He had been rushed into hospital with a broken leg, but he has been out in the cold too long, too weak to go anywhere, that he developed hypothermia. He was now warming up slightly, but it was a long and exhausting process. A young looking doctor entered the room, his white coat swaying behind him. An older looking nurse entered behind him. The doctor walked slowly over to Lucas and Tanya's mother and shook her arm lightly to stir her from her sleep. She stirred almost straightaway and looked up, heavier black bags under her eyes. The doctor and nurse smiled and spoke to her about Lucas. "Mrs Marshall, we both understand that you are terribly worried about your son's condition. We have good news for you - he is progressing and making recovery as the night has gone by. However, his leg does not seem to be getting better yet. We have tried one strategy, but he has not reacted to it yet. With the hypothermia, his body, including his immune system, is weaker and his body is taking longer to repair everything that is damaged. Lots of calcium will be needed in his body, so when he is finally discharged he will need lots of foods such as yoghurt and lots of milk too. Dairy in general." The lady sat with her hands in her lap, looking into the doctor's eyes, taking in everything that he has been saying. "What about my daughter Tanya? How is her operation going?" She looked hopefully into the doctor's eyes again. "I'm afraid, Mrs Marshall, that she came round while the procedure was taking place and she fainted again. So that does not mean it is good news. I don't know much more about it, Madam. I will try to find out more, but my main concern right now, is to make sure your son is getting better. The other members of staff who are working with Tanya will be able to answer more inquiries of yours. Now, it is time for us to examine and medicate Lucas. Could we ask you to just exit the room for half an hour please madam? Thank you." The doctor politely pointed to the door, walking over and holding it open for her. Tanya's mum stood in shock outside the door, but decided she had to stay strong for her children in hospital. She had found out news about her daughter and son, and now there was another person she had to visit in the hospital.

She walked quietly to the reception desk and asked the lady the correct room. Mrs Marshall had to answer a series of questions and then she could go and visit the patient. She took off down a separate corridor, many doctors and nurses bustling busily past, not even looking at her. She arrived at a large looking room and quietly tapped on the door, her knuckles creating a quiet sound. No answer came from within. She pushed down the handle silently and poked her head round the door. Dom was lying quietly on the hospital bed, his eyes slightly open. He had just stirred from a long and healthy sleep. He looked up towards the door, rubbing his half open eyes. Mrs Marshall smiled at him and he smiled back, meaning for her to enter the room. She walked over to a large chair, sitting down in it and taking Dom's hand. "I know that I have only met you today, honey, but I do truly feel sorry for you. I know who done this dreadful thing to you, and I will never speak to them again for doing this. So where are your parents, sweetie?", Tanya's mother asked sweetly. "Fine. I'm going to tell the truth. They moved to Australia two months ago...."
