I've been running all my life. Away from the horrid memories of the sacrifices my mother made to protect me, and to protect my name from this evil world we live in...
But everything's changed...
I've recently found out my mother was murdered by a psychopath; choosing the wrong pill in a game of chance that would give away her secret. That gave away my name.
That cost her her life...
I heard a man named Sherlock Holmes had solved my mother's case along with others who had fallen of the same fate. I must find him so I can warn him: for he does not know what he has gotten himself into...

28. But Angels Can't Die

"Wake up, you sleepy bastard." Sebastian says with his thick Scottish accent. "The boss wants a word with you."

I look forward towards the computer screen, and see my face in a camera, all bruised and beat-up. My shoulder was bandaged up with a gauze, but I could still feel blood pouring out of the wound. Some text appears on the screen:

M: Hello, Ms. Rachel. I've been expecting you.

"What do you want?" I ask, trying to remain calm.

M: To solve the Final Problem.

"What 'Final Problem'?" I say, attempting to be more brave.

M: All in good time, my little dove.

I shiver at the thought of me being his 'dove'.

"What about Julie? Why does she work for you?" I say. "The Julie I met when I was in the hospital was a nice young woman who would seem to avoid the likes of...this" And she clearly didn't want to hurt me when she pulled out her gun.

M: We made a negotiation...but I am reconsidering my side of the deal

I hear a brief sob in the background of our conversation.

"OI!" Sebastian yells towards a corner of the room. "Shut your trap, you scumbag bitch!"

I turn my head as far as I can with the ropes restraining me, and to my surprise, I see Julie. She's also tied to a chair, and it was painful to look at her, because you could see her very heart and soul breaking apart right in front of her.

"May I speak to her?" I turn quickly and ask the screen.

"No." Sebastian answers while pushing his gun against my bruised skull. A message pops up on the screen, directed towards Sebastian.

M: Now now, Sebastian, let her calm the girl down. Remember, Ms. Rachel is our...special guest. Let her do as she pleases.

Sebastian grunts at the screen, puts away his gun, and gets down on his knees to untie me.

As soon as I feel the ropes drop from their choking embrace, I rush towards Julie. I take her in my arms gently, and cradle her like a new-born child.

"I-I-I'm so s-s-s-sorry, Rachel..." She says through her sobs. "That m-m-man said he was g-g-g-going to hurt my l-l-l-little brother..."

"It's okay, Julie," I say as I rub the back of her head softly. "You had to do what you needed to to save your brother." I hear Julie cry even more, but then I hear a slight chuckle underneath it. She leans closer from my ear, and moves her head and seems to check if Sebastian can't hear us.

"It's f-f-f-funny," She barely whispers. "Coming from another g-g-g-g-girl who l-l-l-loves him just as much as I d-d-d-d-do..."

I stop.

I stare.

I think.

I storm towards the computer in a gigantic rage. I look straight into the camera with a cold, harsh gaze, and I chuckle ever so slightly.

"What kind of sick and twisted game are you playing at, you piece of shit." I clench the sides of the table with furious fists. "Let...her...go..."

M: I'm afraid I can't do that, my little dove.

"WHY THE HELL NOT?!?!?!" I scream angrily.

M: Like I said, we've negotiated a little something.

"WELL AT LEAST GIVE HER HER SIDE OF THE DEAL!!!" Tears of anger run down my face. "I'm so sick of your little game. Just let us go; go deal with this damn 'Final Problem' of yours and just leave us alone." I look straight into the camera, eyes flaring with pure hatred, and I get out two more words with all the courage I can muster.

"Got it?"

I never see the response, because Sebastian knocks me to the ground with his gun, and beats me again...

And again...

And again...

Until blackness takes my vision.
