I've been running all my life. Away from the horrid memories of the sacrifices my mother made to protect me, and to protect my name from this evil world we live in...
But everything's changed...
I've recently found out my mother was murdered by a psychopath; choosing the wrong pill in a game of chance that would give away her secret. That gave away my name.
That cost her her life...
I heard a man named Sherlock Holmes had solved my mother's case along with others who had fallen of the same fate. I must find him so I can warn him: for he does not know what he has gotten himself into...

20. A Fantastic Get-Away

Phil and I bow to the crowd one more time; some people even cheer for encores! I quickly scan the outer recesses of the crowd, and I find a sight I am not that pleased to see.

There was Sherlock and John, both calling out my name, looking for me in Trafalgar Square.

"Crap." I say. "I'm in trouble." Phil looks at me and I nod towards John and Sherlock.

"Are those your parents?" Phil asks.

"What? No! They are really...protective of me...and I kinda snuck out on them..."

Phil instantly realizes the situation. He runs off, and I am dragged along with him. The crowd politely parts for us, and we wave to the people as we run out of the Square. We run for as long as we can before we run out of breath (which is like 5 minutes). Panting at the side of the street, ready to collapse, I smile at the sight of a familiar place.

"Hey, Phil," I say in between gasps for air. "Come on! We'll be safe here." I take his hand again and pull him into the Picadilly bookstore that I go to every weekend.

"Hello, Rachel!" Mrs. Evergreen, one of the clerks, calls out.

A smile covers my face once again as I walk over, dragging Phil along with me. "Hi Mrs. Evergreen! How's the store coming along?"

"Swell, swell darling!" She notices Phil and looks at him carefully, as if she didn't want to miss a single detail of his face. She smiles. "Is this your boyfriend that you've been talking about so much lately?"

"No!" Phil and I say in unison. We look at each other, but Mrs. Evergreen just keeps smiling.

"This is Phil Lester. He's a friend of my boyfriend." I quickly explain.

"Hello." Phil says shyly.

"Well, it's nice to meet you Phillip. That is what it's short for, isn't it?" Phil nods in reply to Mrs. Evergreen. "Oh! I almost forgot!" Mrs. Evergreen ducks under he counter for a moment and pops back up with a book I hadn't seen in the book store in her hand. She looks around cautiously, as if she's going to tell me and Phil a big secret.

"Just came in yesterday." She whispers as she points at the book. It was a beautiful cover that looked very 20's in style, and above a brilliant illustration of a familiar young lady I knew all too well, were the bold letters that read:

The Angel's Kiss: A Melody Malone Mystery

I gentlely take the book from the counter and examine the book very carefully. I smile at the familiar name of Melody Malone; I absolutely loved this series, and this was the last book I needed to complete my collection. I quickly look at the price on the back and take out my wallet.

Mrs. Evergreen immediately reaches out her hand and stops me from grabbing any money out of my wallet. She smiles sweetly at me, and shakes her head. A wide grin spreads across my own face as I hug and peck Mrs. Evergreen's cheek from across the counter.

"Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!" I say excitedly as I kiss the front cover of the paperback, then gently wipe off the spot where I pecked it. I hold the book tight to my chest as I jump up and down for joy. Phil just smiles and is glad to see I'm happy.

"Thank you so much, Mrs. Evergreen! I won't forget this!" I say as I grab Phil's hand and drag him back to Baker Street with me.

I open the door to my flat as Phil slowly walks up the stairs, as if to take in his surroundings very deeply and thoroughly. I excitedly run into my bedroom and put the last book of the famous Melody Malone series on my shelf with the other 11 books in the series. Phil walks in and gets on his knees to see the book titles more clearly.

"Wow...that's a lot of books..." He says with wide, curious eyes.

"I know, right? These books are all from the 1960's at the most." I take one of the books carefully from the stack. "This one's my favorite: 'Hello, Sweetie: A Melody Malone Mystery'."

I hand it to Phil, and he examines the short summary on the back.

"You can borrow it if you want..." I say, and Phil looks up, with a sense of surprise in his crystal blue eyes.

"Really? You aren't afraid I'll accidentally set it on fire with a Charmander or something?" I laugh at Phil's response. "What? It could happen!"

"Well, I trust you Phil. You should be careful with that book though; it is quite old." A smile spreads across Phil's face, and he stands up to glance at the alarm clock on my shelf.

"Geez, it's that late already?" I stand up; the clock reads 7:46 PM. "I better get going." Phil says as he starts to exit my flat. I quickly follow him down the stairs.

"Phil, wait!" I grab his hand just as he's about to leave. I quickly get on my tip-toes and peck his cheek, that slowly turns bright red as I lower myself back to the ground.

He puts his hand over his cheek. "What was that for?" He asks shyly.

"For taking me out to have such a good time. That thing we did in the park was probably the most fun I've had EVER! I just wanted to give my thanks."

We both grin widely, and Phil comes close to my ear, still holding my hand.

"PJ's lucky to have you." He whispers.

Then he pecks my cheek.

And leaves.

I get yelled at by John later that night, but I hardly hear any of his 'discipline' while I  day-dream about what happened today with Phil...
