Bridge High Girls: Laughing Inside

Sophie used to have it all- a happy life, fine parents, and everything else. But when a home drama strikes, everything goes downhill. Her friends are still there for her, but will it always be that way? Find out in the first Bridge High Girls novel!

9. Thinking of Ideas

Sophie sat in her bedroom, jotting down ideas. She was back at her Mum's house now, on a Tuesday evening, and she was thinking of ideas. Holly had told her that entering the School Talent Evening would be a good idea- but would it? Yeah, she knew a load of jokes- but would her audience like them or understand them? Sophie began to get a headache, so she went downstairs for a drink. Her Mum was reading one of her home magazines, and she looked up as Sophie walked in.

"I don't get you sometimes, Sophie," she said. "How can you go and sit in your room for hours on end? It's shameful,"

"No it isn't," Sophie replied, pouring herself some orange juice. "I did at Dad's and I had a BRILLIANT time," Sophie's mother tutted.

"I don't care what you did at your Dad's," she snapped. "Whether you went on a world tour or hopped into a spaceship and zoomed to the atmosphere, I don't care. I don't want to hear a word of what you did at your father's house. You're here now," Sophie blushed, feeling quite angry. She slammed the cupboard door shut and stomped upstairs. Her Mum was so mean!

The next day at Bridge High, Sophie signed herself up for the Talent Evening. She could see that Zoey's signature- very big with loopy letters in pink gel pen- was there too.

"Wow!" Sadie smiled. "You are SO much more talented than this lot!"

"Yeah, you're gonna smash it!" beamed Holly.

"The other's don't stand a chance!" Megan grinned. Sophie thanked them, and they all hugged, shouting 'Team Sophie! Team Sophie!"

"Why don't you guys enter the show?" Sophie asked.

"My big sister Issy has bribed me not to," Sadie said, "She hates them. And Skye says that they're for fakers. No offence,"

"Lots taken!" giggled Sophie. "Anyway, I don't care. It's just an excuse to be out late on Saturday," The bell buzzed ear-piercingly, and the girls separated. Sophie couldn't wait- maybe it was going to be fab.
