1. Not Laughing Now

"What did the doctor say to the sick pig?" Sophie Williams said, running to keep up with her best friends, Sadie, Megan and Holly.

"I don't know," Sighed Sadie. "Oinkment?"

"Yeah!" Sophie clapped. "The oldest joke in the book, that one. Or maybe that joke about Doctor Who-"

"NO!" Megan joked. "I seriously can't take one more joke, Soph!"

"Yeah, but you'd miss it if I never, ever told them!" Sophie said, rummaging around in her rucksack. "Anyway, it's double math today; you'll need cheering up!"

"But I quite like math," Holly piped in. Sophie smiled. She would never say a bad word about Holly, but she was a bit of a nerd. She loved every subject and was always coming top. Sophie didn't. She normally just couldn't be bothered and let her mind wander, so she came bottom. Her parents told her that she needed to try harder- but who needs math and science when you can have comedy? Well, Sophie didn't.

"Holly, you like EVERYTHING!" Megan giggled.

"Nu-huh! I hate sushi!"

Sophie beamed at her friends as the bell went. She loved them so much. If only they were sisters, they could have fun together ALL the time.

"Okay, see you!" The girls said to each other as they went their separate ways. Sophie sighed- her math teacher, Mrs. Drake, was already waiting outside the door for her. Seriously- just because she bunked of ONCE last week, everybody is on her case. Crazy!

"I'm coming, Miss!" she called, dragging her bag behind her. "Oh- knock knock!"

"Who's there?" Mrs. Drake answered, looking at her watch and frowning.

"Whoo!"

"Whoo who?"

"Whoa, what are you so excited about, Mrs. Drake? It's only a math lesson!" Mrs. Drake's eyebrows met in the middle.

"I have no time for jokes and sarcasm, Sophie," she said firmly, "And neither do you. Your maths work is appalling. Therefore, I've given you extra homework," Sophie could feel her face falling. She normally had a permanent grin on her face, but whenever somebody mentioned homework it went away. Why was homework so over-rated?

"Ha!" Mrs. Drake said, "You're not laughing now!
