Teach Me to Dance, Teach Me to Love

Sage is a nobody. She sits at the back of the class, she eats where no one else is around. She's always been afraid to love. The only place she feels accepted, is in the dance studio. Alone of course, until Angel steps into the picture. Will she finally learn to love? Or will she just brush him off like she did everything else.

2. Chapter 1

My eyes flutter open at the sound of my alarm clock playing "You Found Me" by the Fray. I sigh and take in the events of the dream I just awoke from.

I sigh and roll out of bed. I drag myself to the dresser and open the drawer. I find what I need to take a shower and walk across the hallway into the bathroom without disturbing my mom, whose room is adjoining to the bathroom. I shower and dress, feeling the softness of my favorite worn-in jeans and over-sized sweatshirt over my tank top. I look at my clock without thinking, but I can't see, because without my glasses, I'm nearly blind. I put them on and look back at the clock. It says 6:30.

I look at my mirror and grab my brush. I comb through all of the nasty snarls of wet hair until they're all smooth. Then, I blow it dry. While I blow dry my hair, I think of my dream again. This is the same dream I've been having this whole week. It's kind of getting pathetic. My hair is dry enough, so I put on my beanie and gather my things for school. By the time I'm done, it's 7:05. I walk down stairs and set everything on the table. then my mom comes down and kisses me on the cheek. "Morning. Sleep well?" She asks with a yawn.

"Yeah." I lie.

"Good. Well, you should be getting out to the bus sweetie. Have a good day." She says in reply. I kiss her on the cheek.

"Bye mom." I say as I walk out the door with my bag. I run to the bus stop where the bus is about to pull away. When my bus driver sees me, he stops and opens the door as I jump onto the first step of the bus.

"Thanks." I say as I pass the driver and sit in the first seat. I'm always the first one on the bus, so I always get the seat I want.

"No problem sweetie." He says as he pulls off. I put my ear buds in and tap the play button on my iPod. "Heart Attack" by Demi Lavato starts playing, and I close my eyes and get lost in the music. That is,until someone snatches my hat.

"Hey! Give that back!" I say as I reach for the popular kid holding it. Drake Lawson. Quarterback of the football team, boyfriend of the cheerleading captain, Bailey Campbell. The typical cliche' high school "romance".

"No way loser. I'm just starting my fun." He says. I get up and try to snatch it away. He jerks his arm back just in time and he and his friends start to laugh. "Did you seriously just try to do that?" He snickers.

"It's my hat!" I say defensively. Suddenly, a boy I've never seen before stands up. His straight black hair and blue eyes look familiar, but I can't place my finger on it.

"Give the lady back her hat." He says. His smooth voice takes me by surprise. I was expecting gruff, or deep.

"Ha. Look over here boys. Looks like new guy is here to save the day." Drake says. "Watcha' gonna do about it pretty boy?" He asks, directed at the boy.

"I don't think you heard me. Give, the lady, back, her, hat." He says forcibly. And something must've brainwashed Drake into giving my hat back and apologizing.

"S-sorry" he says. He gives the hat back, and I walk back to my seat after giving the boy a thankful glance. We soon arrive to school and I jump out of my seat. I run into the building and quickly find my locker. I put my things up and head to my first class, which is English. Mrs. Canterbury teaches that class. I take my usual seat in the back and just follow along with the lesson, not daring to raise my hand. When that class is over, I go to Math, where Mr. Lansing is teaching. Then there's Gym. Coach Kai makes us warm up, then we usually play dodge ball or just run the whole time. She's really pretty, but absolutely menacing. After that, there's lunch, where I sit alone in the corner, where I usually do. I see the boy from the bus sitting alone at a different table, and I wonder if I should go over there. I'm almost out of my seat when he gets up with his tray and leaves the lunchroom.

As I walk towards Science from my locker, I bump into a large figure. "Oh, shit! God, I'm sorry." I say as I start picking up various books and handing them to the person. I look up at the boy, and I see the black haired, blue eyed boy from the bus.

"It's okay. I should've been watching where I was going." He says. I start to protest but he cuts me off. "Really, it was my bad." He assures me. I go ahead and play along.

"Well, thanks. And thanks for earlier, with my hat..." I say.

"No problem." he says. "Uh, what's your name?" he asks.

"Uh, it's Sage. What's yours?" I ask him. He smiles a sweet, lopsided smile.

"My name's Angel."
